Without spoiling anything, are the boss fights worse than the ones in MGS 1, 2, 3 and 4?

It depends on how you take them on because you're only rewarded for your experimentation against them. I honestly enjoyed them more than 4 just because of that with the exception of two fights in 4 that nothing comes close to them in the entire series, imo.
Rex vs Ray and the final fist fight.

There's barely any to begin with and what is there is extremely worse. I cannot stress this enough.

Every fight was just me fumbling around with the controls and hoping things work out.

If only you played Peace Walker.

Oh shit. First the story, then the cutscenes and now the boss battles are less of a focus. Those are the three things that made me love, play and complete the Metal Gear series.

Can someone tell me why I can't fulton mortars, containers and the like? Do I need to upgrade my fulton?

Yeah, it's been netting a B pretty much every time for me. No big, deal I'm not playing for rankings, but I don't feel like I'm going particularly slow or anything. I'll have to check out some videos of quick stealthy runs to see what others are doing.

The thing I'm picking up is that isn't not always about tranqing or knocking out everyone, you just need to get past them most times. Make more use of distractions instead of disabling everyone and you will move way faster.

Throw mag, and MOVE.
Shoot silenced gun NEAR a soldier, and MOVE.

K, finished Mission 31 and at this point have got a few questions plot wise

If anything is still to come up later, or I've misunderstood or missed something then just let me know.

SPOILER QUESTIONS FOR BEYOND MISSION 31

1) who was the Mantis type figure? Was it actually Psycho Mantis? What is his motivation? he takes Metal gear and causes some havoc, then steals the parasite. What's his deal?

2) Same goes for the Man on Fire? Who was he?

3) Also, who were the soldiers trying to kill you at the start? They weren't with MOF or Mantis.

4) What was the deal with Ishamel?

5) What is the deal with Quiet? There's clearly more going on there and not much has been said. I admit I guess this is upcoming stuff.

6) This is more of an observation, but I felt alot of characters didn't get much development. I never get a great sense of the backstory or motivations for Skull Face or Code Talker.

7) Last, now correct me if I'm wrong here, but what was Skull Face's plan?
Far as I got, he was using archaea (which I think is a bug that produces uranium?) along with mass developed Gear Walkers to basically force global nuclear deterrence as everyone would have a nuke.
But he also controlled these nukes too somehow? And Sahalanthropus was basically an iron fist for this as it was the biggest baddest nuke weapon?
Plus he wanted to use the English parasite to basically wrest control from Zero, yes?
So the work done at the devil's house surely was Zero's work then not Skull Face cos there was no English tapes there?

Yeah, lot of questions, I bet alot of this is in tapes =/

1) It's unresolved but enough clues for you to know it's him, just like there is enough clues for you to guess Eli is Liquid despite the fact that it is never told in the game (Like we knew Liquid was a child soldier in Africa, and he's the only blonde child soldier here and happens to be a leader and bonds with the mantis kid). You will get some tapes on their motivations and such soon.

2) You'll know who he is soon if you don't already, I've known who it was since I saw the trailer for the first time.

3) XOF

4) Keep playing

5) She got burned badly if you remember, and if you also remember the parasites can act as second skin, give you abilities and they take water/sunlight through contact, that's how she feeds. She is quiet because she probably took a language/vocal cord parasite, and if you've listened to tapes so far you'll know that you can activate that particular parasite by speaking.

6) Yea that's MGS5

7) His plan was to rid the world of language because so that the only way people would understand would be through war/deterrence. Him having the metal gear meant he invoked fear in others to go Nuclear themselves, and he would meet that demand by giving them walker nuclear weapons (that he could control in the sense that he could turn them off whenever he wanted). It's an overly complicated plan that is pushing on many fronts...in true metal gear sense.

Ending spoilers
V has come to, can't mean venom since he's not venom snake yet. may be referring to the 5th snake.

Spoilers,
I thought it was pretty straightforward to be honest. Big Boss is in the next bed, he woke up before Venom, you are playing as Venom Snake, V has come to is literally them saying "The poor fool made to think he is Big Boss has finally woken up, we can now start the show."

woooooooooooow at that retcon:

(medbay scene... if you don't know what it is, don't highlight)

Seriously this where they go with Paz? Hey, surprise, we actually checked her vagina and she totally didn't blow up! You see Snake was all "I know something's wrong! Why don't you shove your hand into her vagina and check!" Except he didn't say that, but the doctor knew it anyway, and we got a great fisting scene. It's all good now, she's alive, yay! wut
complete all the wandering msf solider side ops. Also notice how Paz hasn't aged and her scar from the bomb is still fresh, 9 years later? Doesn't this ring some bells that there might be more to it?

Mission 8:
I manage to sneak up in the fortress, steal the plans, chase down the tanks until they're stationary, then sneak right up to them and place explosives on both of them, all of this while only eliminating three enemies with CQC / Tranq. I get out of there and set up in safe distance, some fucking Foxhound shit, detonate the explosives... turns out C4 doesn't work against tanks.

Edit: Mission 8, not 10.

Mission 10:
I manage to sneak up in the fortress, steal the plans, chase down the tanks until they're stationary, then sneak right up to them and place explosives on both of them, all of this while only eliminating three enemies with CQC / Tranq. I get out of there and set up in safe distance, some fucking Foxhound shit, detonate the explosives... turns out C4 doesn't work against tanks.

Yeah it does. Use...more?

Worked for me. That's exactly what I did.

Anyone have any hints on how the hell to easily find what is updated on the map? I just interrogated a guard and he mentioned something about a prisoner but I can't find the icon anywhere.

Definitely works. Did you only place 1 on each? That's not enough if so lol. 2 does the trick.

Was getting caught part of your plan?

Speaking of which, how any of those side ops missions are there?

Jesus christ looking at all this confusion, people are going to be trying to figure out the story of MGSV for years to come, I know Kojima wanted things to be a little more subtle, but I think he completely overestimated his audience.

And that's not even including the people who started with MGSV as their first.

Papercuts

fired zero bullets in the orphanage.
I just stick all of them and sometimes even it doesn't work, lol.

Yeah I did the same thing on that mission and used 3-4 and still had to do more to finish them off.

I had to actually manage my team and just shove a ton of them on R&D to create a rocket afterwards

If you really want to make sense of it, I doubt anyone decided beforehand on the nickname "Venom". Like, "we are convinced this guy is going to be hellbent on getting revenge when he wakes up, so let's just go ahead and call him Venom and not tell him and hope he decides by himself to call himself exactly that". V makes a lot more sense as in, the fifth Snake besides Big Boss, Liquid, Solidus and Solid Snake.

That actually doesn't make sense at all for one major reason.

Well, you got half of the people thinking in the final MGS trailer that he spoiled BB being/becoming skullface lol.

So you're saying... don't read the spoilers? Because this sounds a whole lot more promising.

I know people complain about some of the main missions being 'filler', but I love those missions. For example mission 8. Yeah it's not a story-heavy mission, but I had so much fun figuring out how to tackle it. It was just chaos the first time around. Ended up replaying it as soon as I finished it just because I came up with a better plan.

I love those types of missions that give you an objective but lets you complete it in almost any way. The emergent sandbox gameplay is amazing in this game. As of yet I have not encountered a situation where I'm thinking "I wonder if I can do this" and the answer isn't "YES".

Too much linearity and story-focus would be a crime when the sandbox is this good.

I'm so behind on Collecting Resources. Ugh. I've finished Mission 3 now. I really enjoy the Gameplay, but I got spotted by a guy and in order to confirm he saw me, because there was no direct path up to me, the dumbass just walked around an entire mountain and up a path to get to me. So...yeah, instead of saying 'fuck this' he's really dedicated to getting shot in the nuts.

I'm on my first mission with D-Dog, he is so amazing.

The gadgets and abilities in this game are the best. Kojima has completely outdone himself; the decoy, D-Dog's attack, the bionic arm and the reinvention of the cardboard box is fucking masterful. When I realised it didn't require upgrades and everything was done exactly how you'd think control wise I was floored.

The Six Million Dollar Man sound effect with the power punch is the best.

I have a question though, sometimes when I go into the binoculars I get this weird audio cue, like a mysterious sound. Anyone know what that is?

Ive got a problem.

Quiet escaped from my chopper after I choose not to kill her. But everywhere I go for info says you capture her and bring her back to mother base. What am I doing wrong?

I think many were filler but that doesn't mean I disliked doing them. It's a shame that the story was so detached from the missions though.

Can anyone tell me why some side op missions are still bright (aka full white) when you've completed them? I've got a few 'rescue the target' missions that are done in every sense of the word but sit full white like not completed?

My imaginary OCD aches.

Man, I really need to start using the C-Box. I've had it in my loadout since minute 1, but I never use it for some reason.

As for the crazy sound using the binoculars, I know what you are talking about but I have no idea what it is supposed to indicate either.

Because they still want you to have opportunities at the rewards. Imagine if you did all of the side ops and you need GMP now. What are you going to do?

Seriously, the C-Box is so fun to use. I posted this a while ago but if you sprint with it on and press the dive button, you can pretty much go sledding down sand dunes. It's amazing.

Ocelot and them straight up named you, it's even said in the game what the reasoning was for calling you that, the name was created before he woke up

From what I've experienced so far, I think people might be better off taking a more Dark Souls'ish mindset in terms of the story telling for this game, the information is still there, but rather than sit through 90 minute cutscenes, now you need to seek it out if you want to know, and connect the dots yourself.

So just accidentally got Quiet.
Was on my way to a side op when I entered mission 11, took about 5 supply drops but I got there.
Also nice to see she
still sunbathes in the rain.

Gen X

Trust no one. Eat steaks.
Using the Bionic Arm for the first time and hearing the sound effect for it. I can imagine Kojima being a big fan of Steve Austin. Dat Nostalgia!

Is there anyone here who fully completed the story and liked it? Either as a self contained plot or as a part of the larger MGS narrative. The game is a ton of fun so far (still pretty early), but reading all this negativity is starting to make me worried.
