There are ways to make it work. The Solid Snake mission can take place months or years after you stop controlling Big Boss, so the areas can be remixed and new elements can be introduced so that you don't actually know much going in that kills the sense of exploration or progression. It doesn't have to be 1:1 with how you built it up at all, but it could give you certain advantages to make an otherwise insurmountable task more manageable.

Having this enormous war machine at your disposal as Big Boss, rescuing and recruiting badass characters to fight by your side, given every advantage in the first half of the game as this leader of men, and then having it all stripped in Chapter 2 as Solid Snake, fighting Big Boss's charismatic comrades as boss encounters (who you as the player relate to and feel for because of the first half) and desperately scrounging for weapons and items that you can't have supply dropped to you on a whim...and then winning anyway, against all odds.

That completes the circle. It shows why Solid Snake is the namesake of the series. It's ambitious but plausible. Mother Base ideally wouldn't be a lame empty oil rig maze in that case of course, and the people you recruited also wouldn't all have randomly generated names and no personalities, and you'd have to scale back the Big Boss portion to probably not have the open world elements but be a series of story missions like Ground Zeroes. But it's plausible and I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Fuck, that would be amazing!

An epic to end all epics.

so was anybody ashamed of their words and deeds concerning Quiet or nah

I dunno but I understood why someone like her might wear so little clothing given the reasons given. That could have just be changed though, like she has the parasites all over but uses the ones on her face to breathe instead of breathing through all her skin.

The thing about going invisible and all that, I could buy if she was completely naked in the field (and always invisible minus a floating sniper rifle) but her clothes go invisible too so... there is no reason there to wear to little.

And she seemed ok enough wearing a jumpsuit when captured, she was "breathing" ok and managed to do cool shit.

When I used her I just had her in the XOF jumpsuit because it looked better.

Do they explain why Quiet is ignorant to her sexual inappropriateness?

She doesn't seem unintelligent. I don't get the sense that it's a cultural difference. But she's stripping down and rolling around in the rain like she isn't aware of the connotations of that.

Did her brain get burnt, or something?
Clearly parasites all up in her brain

I don't care too much about bugs giving superpowers. It still doesnt change that Sorrow is a ghost and can talk to dead people or Pain can use Bee teleport. It would bother me if they did some bullshit like say Sorrow was just talking to the parasites and infects you with one making you hallucinate dead people.

They specifically explain the powers of The End, The Pain, and (IIRC) The Fear in a cassette. Parasites, of course.

After finding out the reason why people should be ashamed is, "parasites mean she has to be naked even though everyone else who uses parasite powers is fully clothed," yeah, totally.

I mean, she's walking fanservice. That's not the end of the world -- characters can be intentionally sexualized and titillating and are all the time, and sex isn't evil -- but it should be said straight up and not justified with bullshit excuses. Don't thousand year old demon us, Kojima. Just say why Quiet really wears a bikini and has extreme tit physics and bends over in front of your face every 30 seconds on the ACC and dances soaking wet in the rain.

I would have respected it more if they were just honest, yeah. (Not)Big Boss just blankly stares at her right in the eye. Which, to be fair, he does that in pretty much every cutscene for 40 hours, but its utterly bizarre how the sole female character of note is damn near naked and no one references it. They're all so noble and this is totally normal. But the camera will oogle the fuck out of her(and the Quiet Skulls snipers in a laughable moment) anyway, even in really "serious" moments like the torture.

I just don't see the point of character's design, or how any of its exploitative sequences were, as Kojima said, "as an antithesis to the women characters appeared in the past fighting game who are excessively exposed". At least Dead or Alive Vollyball isn't lying about its shallow digital fanwankery.

Everyone seems to get ogled by the camera. That Ishamel ass shot when they're in the hallway with the other patients before it gets shot up had me rolling.

something something kojima cosplay something something

despite the cringe, she's at least got a few cute moments. there's like an inkling of a love story in there, but much like everything in the second half of the game a lot of it probably got cut, because it races towards her ending pretty quickly and it barely feels like there's any context.

To be honest, after this... I wouldn't mind Metal Gear in someone else's hands. I know Metal Gear is Kojima... but I would love to see someone else's take on all the crazy.

I'm listening to some of The Truth tapes early, and Sutherland's great as Naked Snake/Big Boss. He plays the two characters very well.

I believe she didn't have the parasites during the attack, it was only after she was subjected to them, thus explaining her lack of burns or anything.

No one in DD really is oogling her, all that's on their mind is that they absolutely hate and think of her as a freak. See the graffiti on the signs outside of her cell. Not to mention the fact that shes related to Cipher even has the rest of them really hating on her. Remember that Miller is absolutely against her and it took Ocelot working behind his back to get things going.

hahaha Holy shit that trolling from Kojima for the Sniper Wolf costume unlock.

"Now you can go into battle with Sniper Wolf...

Or the next best thing".

I liked Sutherland's performance in this game. I wish I could have heard his voice more often.

I played mainly non-lethally. Can someone explain the demonism feature?

V, the most heroic and selfless and honorable character in the entire game, who gives everyone a chance for redemption at his own expense, saves children and runs an animal conservation center, has personally rescued almost every single person on Mother Base, and even stabs himself with a goddamn knife just to prove a point to two squabbling Diamond Dogs grunts that all of his soldiers are equally comrades and family including himself, is already a demon, Kaz.

He's a demon. Because something something horn on his forehead. Total demon.

Oh, and if you shoot a lot of people your horn grows bigger and the blood won't wash off until you do some more heroic things like you do every five minutes.

He should have killed the children in the cell or the game should have at least given you the option. That way there is the notion that Big Boss is starting his 'fall'.

i don't see how in any world a new metal gear solid sequel could be a room-by-room stealth action game in 2015. it was played out and almost gone in mgs4. the best parts of that game were when the level design opened up. mgsv is that taken to an extreme.

MGSV is room by room, there is just a big fat emptiness between each room.

Yeah...

I don't get that...

Venom is legitimately a great dude.

Game should have that Eli finale though :/

Welp

Okay, finished it and went though the final cassettes with Zero and the rest.

That's all fine and dandy, but I really wanted to punch out Kid Liquid and Little Mantis one more time. They can't just take that Metal Gear and get away with it.

EDIT: "Ashamed of [my] words and deeds" my ass.

Tries to give Eli good life advice. "Yea blame me, not yourself".
V was probably just pissed off at Eli's bratty, self righteous attitude at that point. This line came off as snarky and slightly exasperated.

I believe she didn't have the parasites during the attack, it was only after she was subjected to them, thus explaining her lack of burns or anything.

I mean in Mission 45, when the Russians have her in the jump suit and the guy is about to rape her. She was still fine (as fine as being a prisoner can be) and was doing flips and awesome shit and tore them all up by herself while "suffocating" in clothing.

Friends, can you really not have Quiet as a buddy anymore after finishing her storyline?

Why would they ever lock you out of a vital gameplay feature like that? I don't fucking get it.

She's the best buddy ;_;

It's why I still haven't done Mission 45. I'll probably watch it on Youtube at some point.

Right, he was saying 'It's easier to blame me than looking at the mirror and realizing the problem is yourself'.

Which is great, because as we all know, he didn't learn anything and continues to blame Big Boss and ultimately Solid Snake for his problems in MGS1.

I don't know how a character like The Boss came from the same mind of the dude who thought up Quiet.

Things are not so black and white.

I'm just glad I was able to max out her bond level. Achievements are priority after all.

Hideo Kojima is our George Lucas. I refuse to believe the person who wrote the MGS3 story also wrote Venom being a body swap that conveniently acts and thinks exactly like Big Boss, with all his memories. It's awful writing. Worse than anything MGS4 did.

I would've preferred if Mission 46 didn't exist at all and the game ended with "We are Diamond Dogs".

Edit: I also guess the "true" ending isn't worth doing since you lose Quiet.

Medic Boss should have drop kicked Eli and Huey off the base.

At that point it's too late. You can sorta prevent it by wearing a butterfly emblem which freezes the mission from actually popping up, I beat the game but still have her until I take the emblem off but I also can't get 100% since I'm missing a side op and a mission.

Considering the highlight of this game is the stealth sandbox, permanently removing a large pool of options in Quiet FOREVER from the player is never something I will be okay with, and the method of keeping her is super obtuse(and even can happen, like, RIGHT after you beat the extreme fight and develop the sniper wolf and xof costumes).

I don't know how a character like The Boss came from the same mind of the dude who thought up Quiet.

I think he made a mistake by not having her speak... or really... communicate in any properly meaningful way.

I mean, the MGS series has some good female characters (and The Boss is one of the best in all gaming), so it's not like he doesn't know how to write cool female characters...

Then again, he did come up with the Beauty/Beast Unit...

I've always considered Metal Gear to be the Star Wars of video games.

The only reason Huey is still alive is because he isn't supposed to die yet due to Metal Gear canon timelines.

The bullshit reason Venom gave about Huey not being a Diamond Dog was just that, when has not being a Diamond Dog or MSF ever stop Big Boss from killing someone prior?

What a fucking stupid gameplay decision. Brava, Kojima.

Easily the worst gameplay decision in the game (unless slipping on any rock at more than a slight angle counts. And climbing up something only to immediately slip off counts).

Like, we can't just keep her and it be non-canon? We can't get a replacement? We can't just only use her to replay things or in side-ops? Nope, take out an entire feature because reasons.

Truly one of the greatest female characters written in the medium

Yeah, but this is a bullshit reason to hate her. Miller was with Cypher too. Even when Huey brings it up they brush it away.

DLC maybe? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
