Every game has cut content and this game is fucking massive and has been being developed for several years, not to mention we saw these scenes in the original trailers. Things change, it's the way it's always been and it's not all Konami's fault.

Quiet is STILL in the area she's found in in that trailer.
So are the child soldiers.

In fact, he does this twice at OKB Zero and the Industrial Zone.

My biggest issue are those scenes, and I can't jump to blaming Konami for their absence.

Kojima didn't explain, pre-release, that certain scenes had been edited due to being "too taboo", so I have to apply Ockham's razor and assume that it is Kojima, the director and producer, who is to blame for their absence.

Yep. As a producer, director and everything else-er, Kojima is in charge of seeing that things stay in budget, on time and so on. He failed to do that. As much as everyone likes to chant #FucKonami, and there is likely blame to be placed on them, for business reasons and other, hearing the same blame being put on them 24/7 is getting boring.

Kojima shouldn't have kept promises he knew he wouldn't be able to keep. Unless stuff is added in later at DLC, there is blame to be put on him.

It's weird and dissapointing especially since they've seemingly been done with mgsv for ~a year. It absolutely should have been in the game.

Those scenes are not in the fucking game. Snake falls to his knees TWO TIMES, one at mother base and one was in africa, it's not just the "to his knees falling", it's the whole scenes from the beginning of the E3 2014 trailer, same for the kids learning how to shoot. IT IS MISSING.

It's one thing to cut something that isn't even close to finish, concept art etc. but those scenes were pretty much done. The africa walking over burned corpses scene for example was from the fucking E3 2014 trailer.

Now that i see all this it could be one of the reasons for the Kojima and Konami fallout. Kojima wanted to keep those scenes in but Konami said nope too taboo. Remember Kojima said he's not sure if he can release the game at this state.

Goddammit.

Solidus was mentioned only once in MGS4. Beyond that it's like they pretend he doesn't exist. It's pure bullshit. He's one of the coolest characters. His intentions were good, but his way of going about it made him a great villain.

You're absolutely right, but this is kind of a special case because we know the director of the game was let go by the company before the game was released, which understandably riles up the fans and leads them to suspect more than the usual for this kind of thing.

I will say that this game feels way more incomplete than any other game I've played.

-Episode 51, the ending of the game is not in-game
-Code Talker says to watch out for Miller. Why?
-The repeat missions are clearly filler replacing other missions.
-The chapter system makes no sense with only two chapters.

The ending makes me think that this game really was going to end with a timeskip and the Outer Heaven uprising. Especially because I keep hearing this game was originally supposed to have five chapters? And the big twist that it was Venom in MG1 is kind of a big deal to mention in a credits roll.

Anyway, yeah stuff gets cut in every game, but it's a bit ridiculous here. But it's Kojima's fault for being overly ambitious too, you are right.

The cutscenes... that happens in so many games pre-release. Missing cutscenes from trailers has been happening from game to game for ages.
 
Everytime I come into this thread, I feel like I'm the only one still playing and enjoying the game. 150 hours in so far.

Most enjoyable thread on the board though.

The real tragedy is that there is no documentary on a documentary labeled disk lol. Really made me kind of regret getting the CE because Kojima's documentaries about MGS2 and 4 are all very in depth and informative in almost every stage of the game. All we got is 33 minute mash up of interviews, all the trailers and the cut episode 51.

Then why are most of the "taboo" scenes missing? waterboarding, more child soldiers stuff, africa burned corpse scene etc.?

Let's not forget those scenes were pretty much done, so cutting them from a director's standpoint doesn't really make sense.

The child soldier scene could have been removed due to being unnecessary. You still see an adult instructor with child soldiers, it's just in gameplay.

The Camp Omega thing made sense to appear in Ground Zeroes, and it didn't there. You see guards execute a prisoner, but it's gameplay, so again it might have just been cut due to being unnecessary.

Quiet, eh, who cares.

It's the other scenes that I have a problem with.

Snake covered in blood walking amongst burned bodies was the kind of thing that sold me on the 'Big Boss becomes a demon' theme. It's missing in the game, but there are piles of burned bodies, just not in a cutscene. This is the only scene that I could see been cut for its content, though, but I don't see where it would have been cut from. I don't see where it fits into the plot, unlike Episode 51, so I'm hesitant to blame Konami.

The skinless Big Boss isn't something I have as much of an issue with, but the fact that it is shown along with Skull-Face Big Boss and MGS3 Big Boss in the Launch Trailer, but missing in the game, is annoying. The game would have been content locked by that point.

Episode 51 is a fuck up. It's like if Naughty Dog didn't finish the train level in Uncharted 2. To leave something like that unfinished when it is plot-relevant is the fault of the director.
 
Okay so the entire 2+2 =5 thing is definitely about Ocelot's own hypnosis. He's fooling himself into believing that Medic Boss is Big Boss because that's the party line (Cipher) and he has to accept it. I think I was overthinking it before. Still doesn't explain the other stuff but that's all I can think of right now.

I know you're ypset but have you never heard of deleted scenes? Go watch any DVD of a film and there "pretty much done"/completed scenes that just are not in the film because of a creative/timing decision.

The only acene I'll ezcuse from this is the Lord of the flies epilogue as that is a legitimate missing part of the game that ties up one of my the main plots.

The most you can hope for is some sort of directors cut. No chance of it being DLC.

Solidus probably shouldn't have existed to begin with imo. At the very least he shouldn't have been a clone, that's just fucking stupid imo. Hey that terrorist who sunk the tanker in Manhattan sure looks exactly like the former POTUS.

I'm also not fond of the idea that snake made himself such a social outcast, that he wouldn't know who the president was. Why should he have been surprised to find that he's a clon? He looked like the fucking president. Solidus as a character it too problematic for my liking.

I agree that the president bit is odd. I mean, Solid Snake does have minor aesthetic differences to Solidus/Big Boss because he & Liquid aren't perfect clones. You can see this at the end of MGS4. Big Boss looks different to Snake, but still similar enough. Solidus always kept a full beard anyway. You'd think Snake would see the president on TV & think "he sure as shit looks like Big Boss." Hell, considering how popular Big Boss was, you'd think a ton of people would think that.
 
I would not mind a cutscene only ep 51 as DLC. I don't really want to fight Sahelanthropus again anyway.

exactly. I'm still playing and none of the things people are mad at have bothered me at all. but the whole thing is too entertaining for me to ignore.

plus this thread has given me warnings about how to not corrupt my saves and how not to lose Quiet so it's been a positive experience.

He was in a position of having to finish the game, with MGSV. He has a rapidly expiring contract (I believe it expires in December). I could see him prioritizing "make it good" over "I don't want to release something that's unfinished".

Based on what we've heard about the Konami situation he's done admirably in releasing a solid, content-packed game. It's likely he just didn't have the influence to do anything more than he did.

I seriously doubt that Konami ordered anything cut because "lol 2 taboo 4 u." We still have a scene were the main character shoves his hand up a young girl's vagina to fish out a bomb.

If anything they were probably like "you're over budget, and over schedule. Make some cuts and get this fucking thing out. BTW yer fired for doing this every time."

Things get cut and obviously there's stuff that Kojima fumbled with. You look at any first movie trailer and you'll likely see shots that have been cut or changed, and they're movies. They have a lot less flexibility.
 
There is a lot of stuff in the game that doesn't really make much sense.

For example what was Ocelot doing in the helicopter after you saved Code Talker from The Skulls and how did he even get in there? i feel like they cut a mission where Ocelot was involved.

The whole game just feels incredible weird, not from a gameplay standpoint but from a story and narrative one. Lot's of last minute decisions have been made it seems.

I mean if there was no fallout between the developer and publisher ok, i would accept that Kojima fucked up but there was so much shit before this game released it's just hard not to blame Konami for it.

I think in MGS4 he did as well(heck he re-recorded lines before the game went gold or something lol). While I said that I'd blame Konami for the most part, he's also to blame for not planning right but at the same time it felt like Konami just didn't give a shit at the end after their fallout. Different than the old Konami that's for sure WHOOOOOOOOOOO?! I think tolerated alot when it came to Kojima.

It's still an incredible game and when compared to other games? There's nothing like it which is what all MGS games feel like to be honest. Anyways, I'm still enjoying the game alot. Also, never really thought that I'd enjoy FOB this much. It works really well so far which gives me hopes for MGO.

I'd blame both but I think I'd blame Konami more because if they have stuck with it like they did back in the old days, we'd have a much better narrative. I'm sure he wanted to do things just like how he wanted it but then Konami said fuck you, no more. I mean the guy went and re-recorded sunny's lines when the game was like ready to be gold lol.

I would blame Konami for wanting to get the game out as fast as possible, yes it got delayed multiple times and over budget but just rushing the game out of the gate doesn't help anyone. Also they created a brand new engine basically for this game, to make MGS into an open world game, what did they expect? of course it would be a very ambitious project.

Kojima always wanted to make an open world game, you can see it in MGS3 and MGS4 but that engine was not powerful enough to make it really open world so they set out and created a new one.

Konami waited 7 years to go from MGS4 to MGSV. If that's Konami wanting it out "as fast as possible" they really are patient.

They let Kojima put his team on a PSP game. They let his team spend years on a spin-off that Konami has to eventually pay another development studio to make.

Let's not slander Konami now. They've been fantastic with Metal Gear for 28 years.

I think it was. I remember he made it sound like it was bone and I'm pretty sure he said it would grow as the game progressed, as you do worse shit. But nah, it's just a piece of metal.

FOX engine was designed to be very modular and easy to develop for on multiple consoles and used for multiple games.

Besides, Kojima always had his team create their own engines, in this case Konami had more use for it beyond MGSV.
