Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

The 8th step in the Gunslinger's quest is hard. You have to kill three Majors and at least 15 kills with the Golden Gun Super in one Strike. Anybody got any tips on this?

The Omnigul strike presents a lot of very target rich areas with high ranking enemies to target. Especially if you have all the perks unlocked on the golden gun, you can over penetrate / explode packs of them.

I just got a similar step with my Warlock nova bomb - get three bombs to generate 7 orbs each in a strike. Not only does my super not charge fast enough to use three times in a strike, my nova bomb is woefully inadequate. The most I've done is five. :lol

Thanks! I'll change my perks around and do that strike.

Celestial Nighthawk works really well in Omnigul's, if you have it. anyone with a yellow life bar that's down a bit will get smoked.
i think the hunter subclass quest is actually maybe the easiest?

I like almost all of the changes to the game with the exception of guns, which... in a shooter, is kind of a big deal. The biggest, actually.

Um.

The guns kind of suck. Especially Armsday related stuff. What's up with that? 4 round sniper with 19 total rounds carried? Perks that make your gun more agile if everyone else on your team is dead?

A sniper with a perk that refills your (four round) mag if you get a multikill with it? My brother, who's in, like, the top one or two percent of all Destiny players in the game or so, told me that you almost never--as in, one in a few hundred matches--get a setup where multiple players are dumb enough to let you get that with a sniper, making it a completely useless perk.

That rocket is the slowest rocket I've used in the entire game.

The last round of perks were pretty bad too. Like... the only time I think Icarus would would ever work if I was going to use that "aim down sights lets you hover in the air" perk that no one uses because it makes you a sitting duck. It's one of the reasons we all abandoned Prison of Elders so quickly--because who wants a shotgun with solar damage that has a perk that only works against the arc-protected captains and has a tiny melee buff that is useless in crucible?

Also: what's up with Achylophage and Bones of Eao missing from 2.0? That's a bug, right? No way the only good Gunslinger exotic would get held back, right? No way a brand new exotic that builds on Hunter skills would get removed, right? They kept all the good Warlock exotics, but it seems like they just broke Hunters and Titans.

So, I had a few main missions in my abandoned quest terminal. I went to go Replay them to clear them from my quest log and now I am getting all of the ones they lead into again, and dropping them just pits them into the abandoned quest terminal. As it is I am going to have to replay pretty much the entire game in order to clear out these missions. Is this consistent for everyone, or did I hit some random quest completion bug?

That is working as planned.

I think that's kind of the point. They're weird, experimental prototype weapons that the manufacturers want taken for a test drive. I assume Bungie is monitoring what people like and don't like about them for future weapon additions.

Wait, are you telling me that these experimental guns are for testing purposes only?
I want my money back.

So got don't need to rank up the gun smith?
You rank him up bybtaking the weapon and fulfilling its "quest". Hover over it in your inventory to see what it requires.

One sniper requires getting double kills (you can do this on Patrol easily). The other asks 20 kills in the Crucible. The Pulse asks for precision kills.

When you complete the requirements of the weapon, you gain Gunsmith rep automatically. No need to go back to him or do anything.

My issue of Edge came (woo!) with the Taken King 20-page cover story (woo-hoo!), though I got the Titan cover variant (boo!).

Only a few pages in, but this bit seemed pertinent given the discussion about loot and progression earlier:

"When you load back into the Tower after finishing the Taken King campaign, you are almost overwhelmed with things to do. Every major NPC and vendor offers up at least one quest of some kind - *examples I won't spoil* - and each will end with a guaranteed reward. The Taken King may technically be an expansion, but it introduced a larger pool of weapons and armor than the base game offered, and many items will be easier to come by."
My understanding is, the Taken King story missions are the first of a three act story arc. The second is the quests that unlock when you complete them, which lead you to the gear needed to take on act 3 - the raid. So it's not a game of pure RNG to reach the endgame, though that's in the mix with the usual strike rewards, etc. There's a reliable path forward with dedicated high end gear at the end, on the way toward the raid.

Will Bungie be introducing more and varied weapon manufacturers with new effects ala Borderlands?

because that would be neat

the shooting is nice but plain ol bullets do get old after a while

Anyone else not getting anything from strikes?

It's not just them. It's all of the perks. Like, they butchered Field Scout. I mean, I was browsing the exotics on PlanetDestiny and most of the guns look kind of disappointing. There's a scout rifle that appears to be a tremendous boon to Warlocks, but that's about it. One of the scout rifles only carries seven mags. There's a shotgun intended for rapid headshots at close range... It's bad gun design.

One of the new weapon manufacturers specializes in energy weapons.

Are you talking about Omolon's weird liquid energy bullet things, or a different manufacturer?

So far, they don't seem all that different. It's more a physical design thing rather than gun specifics. There's no "throw any guns from us and they'll explode," or "we don't have elemental damage, but we do let you fire as fast as you can pull the trigger" like Borderlands so far.

It's more balanced than it was. I was running around with shadow price and not getting rekt today. That right there is better than it was. Bungee would be better served doing small tweaks every other weak then trying to home run balance every 6 months.

They're not trying to home run balance, they're trying to change the shape of the game every six months so it's 'different' every time.

Once The Taken King hits, it's time to get back to Destiny ( I've had a 6-month break ).

Pretty much the same for me. Played a bit yesterday getting all chars to level 34 while testing out new patch. Feels so much better. And with Zone Control and Rift there are finally PVP modes I will really enjoy I think.

The PVP was always my favorite part in Destiny, so yeah, I am looking forward to it. :)

Still have only one fully-leveled character, though ( a Titan ).

I'm on step 8 of the sunsinger quest and unsure how to do it.
Its complete a strike and kill 20 enemies whilst surrounded by radiance.

Now I completed a strike and activated radiance last night but both points are still sat at 0.

I wondering if I need to kill enemies whilst other sunsinger warlocks in my fireteam have radiance active?

I ran the weekly heroic strike and chunked grenades at things when using radiance and it worked for me.

Anyone else feel like the aim sensitivity is different after the update?

ADS feels more touchy to me, but I could be imagining it.

You need to activate Radiance during a Strike and kill enemies using your grenades and melee during the Super. You don't have to kill all the enemies in a single Radiance, you can use your super several times to reach the required number, but it has to be before the end of the Strike.

Got to get fellow guardians to generate orbs for you as well to get that super back up. These quests are team building exercises.

Bad Juju helps get super up quickly as well. I've been completing these on Undying Mind.

Hi Guys, not played Destiny since the initial Beta which whilst enjoyable, I could see the repetitiveness of the game structure (seemed like I would be doing the same things over and over, but with better weapons/rank) may not appeal to me. I love shooters, is now a good time to jump in again or is the overall structure of the game still much the same as it was in the Beta?

Also how many new worlds/areas are there in total in Destiny now? That was one of the things that put me off initially but I noticed a new European area(?). Haven't been keeping an eye on Destiny so apologies if this is ancient news!

I believe people are misunderstanding what these weapons are. They are white tier, nothing fancy.

I was feeling this also... not sure if it's just because I've been away and played a bunch of BO3 in the interim, but it felt sloppy.

End of the day Destiny is built upon replaying content. It's a game that wants you to play every week, so there's no other way around that. On the bright side there is so much content now that even if you wanted to do everything only one time you'd get a lot if value.

Only new world so far is the Dreadnought, but they're constantly adding new areas to existing worlds for missions. There are 2 European zones set up as Crucible maps.

After over 1000 hours of playing Destiny, the weapon handling suddenly feels slightly off to me. I played the game right before the update as well.

Again, I could totally be imagining it, but I'm usually pretty sensitive to this stuff.

is it worth doing these quests now?

Your missing out on EXP to level up to 40 after the 15th no?
or does all the exp come after you have completed a certain number of steps?

1. Gunsmith bounty weapons are not supposed to be amazing. They're simple bounties which casual players can knock out for a weekly Legendary weapon delivery. The double kill with a sniper one? Kill Dreg's on Patrol if you can't do it on PvP. Unless specified, bounties don't have to be done I crucible.
2. 4 round mag on a sniper isn't bad. With Field Scout gone, 6 round snipers will all but disappear.
3. If by last round of perks you mean House of Wolves, that expansion introduced perks like Hidden Hand, Battlerunner, Army of One, Full Auto for Scout Rifles, Smallbore for LitC builds...not just Icarus.
4. What's the bug? I did all six subclass quests.

the rocketlauncher and pulse rifle aren't even meant for PvP games. You get points in them by playing PvE.

But yeah, the main thing about that is to get players to try out different guns for shits and giggles. And they are clearly "challenge" weapons, meaning No Land Beyond tier stuff that you will have to do a little work on achieving.

Im not so sure about that. The pvp sniper he has is, despite its perks, really great. I kept landing headshots with it, and Im not a good sniper.

Levelling subclasses is incredibly slow. Slower than before? I can't remember. My warlock went from 25 to 34 very very quickly but only unlocked one subclass perk in that whole time. After hitting 34 I've been trying to grind out the rest of the perks but it's so slow. Maybe it's just a symptom of this weird 2.0 pre TTK time we're in but I can't imagine trying to max out subclasses like this.

Wait what? You need PS+ to play Destiny on PS3 now? If true, I guess this is truly over for me and Destiny then.
On the Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4 versions of Destiny, you can play (for lack of a better term) the "single-player campaign" using a non-premium user account. This means that you can visit social spaces, go on patrol, and play story missions. You cannot play Crucible, Strikes, Raids, or otherwise do any activity with a Fireteam.

The PS3 is the only platform for Destiny which gives non-premium users access to all activities. This has not changed with 2.0 and will not change with The Taken King or any other future release on the PS3.

It should also be noted that as long as a premium user account has a PS4 or Xbox One console set as its primary console, all non-premium user accounts on that same console enjoy access identical to that of a premium account.

Anyone else thinks leveling goes way to fast?

A buddy of mine played Destiny all evening and all his three characters were leveled in one evening from 30 to 34??

That's just way to fast, leveling doesn't feel like an accomplisment anymore. It would have been more fun if it took about one hour to gain a level not 10 to 15 minutes...

was this worth doing? do I get exp for each completed step or will I get it all at the one last step?

If so what is the last step?

Dont want to throw away any exp
Worth it is relative. All I got was a sweet class item per subclass. I was supposed to get an emblem per subclass but apparently that's bugged. Wait for TTK so you don't miss out on your emblem.

As for XP, don't care too much. Reaching 40 is inevitable and won't take long anyways, or mean much. Like 20 before, it's just whatever. Real progression is what comes after.

I had the quest criteria done after the dropship area in that strike. It was very easy, but I wonder if a lot of these quests are glitched, since I've heard of several people having problems with this particular quest, along with the Warlock one. I would suggest you use Obsidian Mind, along with Bad JuJu, to build your super up quickly, and use Nova against yellow bar enemies.

I don't know if I like class armor now having stats and crucial to leveling up. Class armor, IMO, should be just unique trophy items like ships, emblems, and shaders. Now my Devil's Cloak cape for my hunter is weak compared to the new rare cloak that looks super generic.

thanks will not complete the steps now. will wait for the 15th.

Back to PVP I guess.

from the bungie forums, there a few issues with the update, the big one for me is below.

We’re aware of an issue where Patrols and Faction-specific Quests are not granting the expected rewards upon completion. These rewards will be granted as expected for these activities starting on 9/15/2015. Patrols and Faction-specific Quests completed before this time will not retroactively grant rewards.

Maybe worth holding off doing any of the faction ones, patrols I not fussed about.
