Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

It's a special Red Bull you can only get at 7-11, right? If not there's at least a special marking or design, right? I've not seen any Destiny cans floating around.

I found some at a local Walmart. Dude playing on the upper left with a ghost hovering in front of him, and the lower right a Hunter with The Divide map and Tower hub 'planet' in the background.

I still haven't heard back from Redbull about my code though in over a week after submitting the report.

I don't think I saw in the OT, or maybe I missed it.. does this game have a glamour/transmog system yet where you can wear the look of older armor for cosmetic purposes while keeping the stats of the armor you actually have equipped?

It does not, and not sure what the developers/community management have said in regards to internal discussions on it. I'm sure there is some consideration being made behind the scenes, but for now it's an absent feature.

Same with shaders for weapons. A future possibility, but is not a current feature.

The most you can do at this point in the game is either reroll stats for certain weapons or elevate certain weapons to the highest damage output available to the latest expansion. However, this won't be available for all weapons from Year 1 when going into The Taken King, such as the Gjallarhorn.

Not quite. Last expansion had a way to take any old gear and level it up to the new maximum, however that is going away with The Taken King. We'll see if they add anything like that this expansion but they haven't announced it yet.

They do have an Infusion system in TTK, which means you can take any legendary item and essentially boost it up to max stat levels by sacrificing stronger items to it. It hasn't gone live yet but on paper it's sort of a junior varsity transmog system. So if I like a certain legendary class item and don't want to replace it, I can take a newer stronger class item and shard it to make my favored cape stronger.

Im sure there are year 2 versions of year 1 exotics.

Yea, but that is only for TTK stuff. All the old Year 1 stuff stays behind.

Out of the weapons I have that I can see the blueprints for, here are the exotics that carry over to Year 2:

  • Suros Regime
  • Monte Carlo
  • Bad Juju
  • The Last Word
  • Red Death
  • Invective
  • Thunderlord
  • Truth

I'm missing Hawkmoon and Fourth Horseman, so I can't say for sure whether they move forward or not. Exotic armor will have a similar treatment.

Both Hawkmoon and Fourth Horseman do move on.

Ok, so... is there anything we don't really know about TTK as of now? Do you think there's somthing that's gonna surprise us or did they blow their load?

All the Playstation exclusives weapons are moving forward I think.

Yes, which they really didn't have a choice in given that those with Microsoft systems would probably be irritated at the least that weapons that were held from them for a year would be suddenly obsolete when granted to them.

Raid mechanics more than likely. Then again, I haven't followed the streams or watched the archives of them to see all that's been shown.

There's still some minor questionmarks in regards to what secrets the new zone holds. Bungie has been talking a lot about hidden chests and making it worthwhile to explore.

The Dreadnaught seems the least appealing part of the package for me: don't get me wrong, I love that it's a new patrol area, but I'm afraid it's more of the same Hive esthetic we got on the Moon, reused assets etc.

So is this Destiny how it is supposed to be?

It's getting pretty damn close, if not already, in how I would likely view it if I didn't make the jump into it at the beginning and loving it despite the flaws.

Some things will likely never change, such as no Raid matchmaking, that people would like to see do so, but IMO that's rather minor compared to what they are doing.

Now if only they can prioritize certain bugs over others (game breaking bugs over harmless exploits rather than what they do which is the opposite) and find a better philosophy in balancing weapons (i.e. recent shotgun balance makes them near useless in pve, but didn't fix the pvp issues).

We'll have to see though once everything is in place Tuesday and how certain things get reintroduced in the future (HoW and Eris bounties).

Wait so I just logged on for the first time in forever and did the old exotic bounties I had get fufilled because of the update?

So do you guys think TTK is gonna fix a lot of the problems people have with Destiny? Always thought this game looked cool, but was turned off by the reception.

That's too bad. One of the best selling games, has an average 75 hour playtime from users, and has been continuously in the news for over a year. There is a lot of vocal hate, but also a LOT of core players that love it.

That said, taken king is improving a lot for those just jumping in. There is a lot of content now

It fixes most of the problems people had with it.

I am not so sure. It certainly fixes many annoyances, but has it changed the fundamental philosophies of the game? I get the feeling that because TTK looks to change lots of bits, it elides issues with the game and the dev/pub strategy it has.

That said, not played TTK, obviously.

You can download the demo which is the entire vanilla game right now and check if you like it.

You mean "play with friends and shoot aliens, while maybe getting some loot"?

Cause that's the fundamental philosophy of the game.

They are getting rid of a lot of stuff that people found annoying but at the end of the day, the game is a co-op shooter with loot.
It's never gonna get a patch that stops it being a co-op shooter with loot.

Well, no. I mean things deeper than that, from DLC to endgame to PvP design. We shall see.

No DLC after Taken King has been announced so far. No Season Pass, nothing.
So we do not know how additonal content will be provided so far.

Endgame is endgame, like with any MMO it will consist of you finishing up content you haven't seen yet or not doing content you do not find entertaining) and you basically set your own goal. Whether you grind till you have everything or just play casually with friends and such or even stop playing till new content you care about comes out, that's on you,not the game. Endgame is up to the player, always.

PvP design is "shoot men with guns". Will they change balancing? Sure, but that's it. The PvP is supposed to be a fun side activity, that's how Bungie has been labeling it.

wait... so i need both expansions packs to play this one?? no right?? i can just buy this one??

only one i have is the wolves one(last one)

Taken King comes with both expansions.

If you only own House of Wolves, you need to either buy the Legendary TTK edition which comes with Destiny, TDB, HOW and TTK

or

you buy TDB standalone and then buy the TTK standalone.

You can ONLY buy the TTK standalone if you own destiny, TDB and HOW.

TDB and HOW missions and content is heavily integrated into TTK and will be used there, so they require everyone who plays TTK to own them.

You can be as reductive and general as you like, my point is simply those things are still issues for me because of how the game has been done so far, and what TTK is offering looks to be in a similar vein. I did say 'we'll see'.

small observation: stranger's rifle and the side arm, and I think murmur dropped since 2.0 can't be etheric light'd, but can be infused, but only to year 1 highs ala the etheric light, which makes me think, whatever happens with DLC, all year 2 stuff will be infuse able to whatever the ceiling is decided to be

Let's say I already own a physical copy of Destiny, updated to 2.0 and plan to buy the digital legendary edition, would I still need to download the whole thing (~60 Gigs)?

my apologies if this had already been answered dozens of times, but I just want to confirm it. if I have the original game disc and the 2 DLCs, the only way for me to get TTK is to spend $60 to buy the whole thing again right?

I kinda have to be reductive, because everything else would just be fluff around the core designs.

If you have issues with the core designs, then an expansion will usually not change a lot about those. It might streamline some things or slightly alter things, but core design is usually kept for an entirely new entry in the series.

Yes. But it's not 60 gigs. Not even close to it.

The full game with all content installed on a PS4 is 37GB. If you do a totally fresh download, the download is 20GB and extracts into the 37GB installed.

No. If you have the disc and the expansion pass, you can buy The Taken King Digital Expansion for $40 on PSN or Xbox Live.

You can also trade in the original Destiny disc to Gamestop for $20 off the retail version if you prefer.

Well the mission design in vanilla was, by and large, about as rudimentary as it gets. Lots of protecting a ghost while he hacks something. Is it still justba bunch of that?

No,it's not. Funny thing, you never actually protect the Ghost, he can't actually be hurt and enemies don't go for him.

Mostly you will now play through a mission that has a boss or big fight at the end and finish it up.

Taken King seems to add more proper "campaign missions" to the story, with stuff exploding, big environmental setpieces and such.

Strikes and missions also get puzzles and environmental hazards now.

If you play vanilla missions, TDB missions and HOW missions, you can quite clearly see how much better the missions design becomes. I can only imagine TTK will be another step up,but we've only seen one story mission so far. Strikes already seem better though.

Wonder if the "The Hive have been seeding Earth for centuries, waiting for their gods to return." from World's Grave will actually pay off in TTK. Probably not considering how laughable the story and dialogue are.

my brother gave me destiny vanilla is there a way to buy the dlc and taken king only

Just trade the original disc in to Gamestop and get the Legendary Edition for $40.

You could buy an expansion pass ($35) and then buy The Taken King ($40), but it'd be a waste of money.
