Star Wars KOTOR 2 Gets Big Update + out on Mac & Linux

Weird bug. Player character is unable to move after combat. Have to save and reload in order to resolve.

Using a wired X360 controller too.

Peragus sure was a nightmare, but I'm finally done 5.5 hours into the game. Did all side quests I could (Gren's three bounties, dancing Twi'lek, etc). I have a question about the Ithidorian who's trapped in Lusk's cage... He says an external terminal would be able to free him. I'm only able to find the one next to Lusk, but when I try to operate it, it says I can't with "Lusk just standing there." What is that? For reference, I killed the chick and kept Lusk alive, I guess only because I said "I don't want to fight" and that pissed her off.

How do I get the Ithidorian out? So confused... But it's a bit too late. I'm already with Bao-Dur so I'll have to return to help him (and to get my loan paid back from that drop shop guy).

Now the real game begins.... muahahahahaaaa

.... That's definitely a weird bug... Almost like that's from a completely different game :)

Whoops! Sorry!

Here! https://youtu.be/Ils78yvBTBk?t=308

Now I have my suspicious why this bug is happening:

I had the Skip Peragus mod installed before. If you have it installed and decide NOT to skip, the computer console you have to use to start the mod has an option that allows you to not skip the content at all.

As I continued, I ran into this bug. Figuring this was the issue, I deleted the added files from the mod. The issues still happened. Then I reinstalled the game. They happen still :/

At the moment, I'm having Steam verify my game cache.

In the beginning you meet an HK droid next to a dead guy whose voice print you need. I could talk to the droid at first, but when I ended the dialog it disappeared. Is this a bug?

So I've made it to the merc/militia battle in Dantooine but can't progress because of a bug. After getting pushed back into Khoonda, the screen goes black after the loading screeen. The game is still running an I can pull up the pause menu, move my cursor around, etc, but I cant move or make progress because I cant see anything in game. I even saved hoping that a reload would just load the graphics back in but it still stays pitch black. Anybody know how to resolve this?

If you left Lusk alive, you can't get him out. If you decide to spare Lusk, the only way to get the Ithorian out is to run to the console as soon as the fight starts and interact with it then. After the fight is over you can't do anything with it.

I can hardly tell what item/skill/power I'm selecting during combat; the outline in the hud just blends in with the background. I have to randomly select things just to see where I'm at.

I've dealt with this all the way to Malachor V.

Yeah... I also wished there was a way to quickly switch between attack commands and the skills on the lower left. Why are RT/LT unused?

i don't understand how this has controller support. i have an official wired 360 MS controller plugged in but i cant remap any keys get anything to happen with the controller or see any option to switch to controller. i would like to play this game with one, can anyone help? my game is updated..

It uses XInput so it should just work with an official XBox controller. No remapping required. Are you using custom drivers or something?

If you're not doing anything weird, try removing any other controllers or unnecessary USB devices that may be plugged in and reboot your computer. It would also be useful to confirm that the controller works in other XInput games. (Most modern games use XInput)

i trouble shooted the devices driver in explorer and it fixed it, yay! weird thing is that almost all of my games worked fine without doing this. only other one i think that wouldnt work was disco dodgeball, i'll have to go back and see if this fixed it for that game as well. Sick!

Wait... Without spoilers, can someone explain this? The intended ending was never officially released?

The development of KOTOR 2 was super rushed. I think it was less than a year?

Anyways, in order to be able to have the game be in a shippable state, Obsidian had to cut a lot of planned content for the end sections at a late stage. It's to the point that it's just barely coherent.

However, the TSLRM managed to restore a lot of the cut content (which was in the game code, but not hooked up), thus allowing players to experience the ending sections that Obsidian intended originally (and would have provided if they hadn't been on such an insane timetable). It allows for a much more coherent ending experience.

Okay, thanks. Great explanation.

Mod support is super half baked... The general consensus is if you have more than 5 mods right now of any sort your hand is going to crash and burn. Even a relatively benign mod like getting light sabers early caused my peragus save to go crazy. T3 turned into male Jedi with a black woman's portrait...

Going to go back to playing just with the content restore mod from the beginning.

Mod support is not half-baked the issue is how steam handles mods. Every steam mod you install creates another override folder. In addition to this; multiple mods can effect the same file which creates instability or down-right crashes. If the mod is a re-skin or re-texture such as a .tga or .mx you will not have any issues. That is why it is recommended to just have restored content from the workshop which will be your one override folder and install the rest of your mods manually. Most of the older mods had good compatibility with their installers, but it has to be done manually.

heyo,

I want to play KotOR I before diving into KotOR II. I'm playing on a retina Mac, are there any fixes for the resolution? Right now there are only two low resolutions available.

Light side run done @ 34 hours. Going into dark side next. Question about it. I don't remember. How do you turn Atton and the other good characters to sith? Do you have to do good things in front of them to gain influence with them specifically and then continue to make yourself dark?

I had to have some dark side affinity before turning them into dark jedi. It doesn't really matter though since I'm now a light side sith lord.

Losing influence is the same as gaining it. As long as you concentrate on one or the other youll get their bonuses and such. You should look at an influence guide to see what I mean.

Finished my playthrough and maybe it's just because I'm lazy and didn't bother optimizing the build/gear of my companions in the same way as the main character, but there were some ridiculous difficulty spikes at times when I wasn't able to use the main character. The end of the Sith Tomb was the worst, I ended up running circles around the room dragging the enemies behind me, with Atton resurrecting every few turns to shoot them and getting killed again.

Overall I did like the game and the story a lot, I'd played it back at the release but didn't really remember anything about it anymore. But there's a lot of streamlining in more recent RPGs that I personally like, both in gameplay and UI. Not a big fan of being expected to rotate party members to gain influence for them, I'd prefer having separate dialogues for that stuff (read: I just wanna roll with Kreia and Visas). And the inventory just got unbearable at some point.

So I guess what I'm saying is you can blame me for Mass Effect turning out the way it did.

I think I posted before about initial negative impressions of playing Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO. Well, after playing it for about two weeks now I have to say I'm actually starting to enjoy it and this is probably as close to KOTOR 3 as we'll ever get.

As much as I hate the MMO-isms of how combat works etc. the storytelling is still very much a continuation of the KOTOR franchise. I'm currently playing as a Sith Inquisitor and as long as you stick to the main storyline (Class) missions it's essentially KOTOR 3. You also visit a lot of the same locations as KOTOR 1 and 2, which ties them together.

The graphical style is very similar as well although it looks much better. I have everything cranked up all the way and it can be a very pretty game. I just wish they'd adopt a more unique character style in the vein of the animated series (Clone Wars/Rebels).

So for people jonesing for a KOTOR sequel and can get beyond the MMO trappings it's definitely worth a try. Plus it's free-ish. Anyway, just thought I'd share my own experience. Your mileage may vary.

Sorry for the bump, but does anyone know how to fix broken quests? I downloaded the M4-78 restored content. After playing it for about an hour, I realized I didn't enjoy the quests and wanted it to end quickly. I had a save from Korriban that I loaded up. I deleted the M4-78 content and the quest log says I found Vash's body, which was used by the Sith as bait. I've found all the Jedi on all the other planets. Now I'm currently waiting on Master Kavar from Onderon to contact me, but after visiting several more planets, nothing has happened. I don't get any cutscene with T3-M4 regarding the message & when I go to Dxun to Canderous' camp, no cutscene plays out. Am I doing something wrong? I still have the TSLRP mod installed. My save prior to the droid planet is AFTER I left the Sith academy.

sith academy triggers the droid planet last i checked. now that it's triggered, you may be out of luck.

Is there a way to remap the controls at all? I am a couple hours in and some of the mapping choices are quite baffling. Does the X button do anything at all?

Anyone can say what they will about Mass Effect but it didn't force an underpowered Liara to fight solo in a bar against 2 extremely high level npcs that are perfect against her and just fuck her shit up.

Seriously that shit was so stupid.

I also wish I could respec. I ain't gonna mod a save but damn I didn't know force powers where so overpowered. Despite that my jedi is blitzing through the campaign whereas everyone else is struggling to stay alive.

Was going to return to this game after many years, with the restoration mod, and figured, since it's got controller support, why not try that.

Problem is only got DS4's or DS3's, anyone managed to get the game to work with those? And not have the camera constantly spinning around?

Edit: I'm on Windows 10 by the way.

For those having problems with spinning camera and no DS4 support. Firstly, verify integrity of your installation, there was apparently a hotfix but some seem to need to verify integrity to get it to download an additional file (seems to be a new .ini file?) After this, no more spinning camera with DS4 (not sure about other input devices).

Secondly, remove DS4windows drivers, and disable DS4windows to start. Reconnect your DS4 as normal, start Kotor 2, and the controller will work with Generic Windows 10 drivers for the DS4 controller, full functionality it seems, even replaces button prompts with the DS4 facebuttons.

Edit: Now to how to fix this buzzing/stuttering sound....

Any word on why this game is getting these updates? I recall Obsidian couldn't even get commissioned for a 3rd patch when this game was released. Anyhow, I'm not complaining or anything. Just curious. I had that Star Wars itch and decided to play through my favorite Star Wars (and one of my favorite RPGs period) and I was pleasantly surprised to see this second patch.

Somewhat unrelated, but anyone know of any good difficulty mods? Filefront is dead and all the best stuff was there.

Sorry for bumping this, but I'm planning on buying this on Steam and just wanted to know if the controller support means that you just pkug in controller and play ? i.e., do I have to map anything to the controller or is everything taken care of ?

Also, does KOTOR II allow me to use the Xbox One wireless controller with the usb adapter ?

Still keeping a glimmer of hope that this gets ported to Android.

First KotOR was awesome to play on my Bravia Android TV!
