Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

What are the chances TKK is going to end on some sort of cliffhanger to get you to buy more DLC?

Not that I expect anyone to know the actual answer, just hoping there isn't any major DLC planned.

Well, if we are to get 2 smaller DLCs like Dark Below and House of Wolves, then Bungie didn't ever officially anounce those until about 4 weeks out from their launches.

Though, those would be smaller DLCs, not like Taken King.

We already have a lose thread from House of Wolves in that we know the Nine gave Skolas a ship and set him free. So there is something going on there. The Nine also control the Jovian Planets, and us hanging around Saturn might be too close for comfort for them.

Or that could be Destiny 2, who knows.

Maybe Xur is just a Taken Guardian or something.

True answer: the entire "story" of Destiny so far is just an open-ended MMO framework where "The Light" (the players) fights "The Darkness" (the bad guys).

It's not really a cliffhanger but you can absolutely be assured nothing at all will be resolved in the traditional sense. More Light vs. Dark will follow in further expansions.

I'm down for more major DLC if it's all as big as TKK + the two other DLCs combined. $40 for a few new raids, four new areas, ten more levels, a half dozen dungeons, a dozen new Crucible maps, some new game modes and a new faction or two, enough new gear... you get the idea. Like an actual expansion.

If that's the case, they need to run a garbage-deletion script because I'm digital and my client, post-patch, is just under 38 GB.

That's post decompression. They actually did what you suggested on the 360 and PS3, it automatically deletes the previous giant HoW and Dark Below "compatibility packs" on those platforms

Very cool! I tried it on all my Guardians and they used a different video clip for three different crucible exotic weapons.

Also, a 1.35 k/d is top 3%? That seems a little high.

A lot of 'Guardians' don't play at all; so that makes some weird stats.

I know this has been answered a dozen times but to confirm I have to have the two earlier expansions to play the taken King? I have to basically spend $60 not $40 (already own the original destiny)

Well, only a few 'stats'/shots are custom; the rest is the same for everyone; so it's mostly the case of putting up the layers with some numbers over a few corresponding shots and render it.

Ah I couldn't tell whether they were overlays or fully rendered video

Yes, buy the version that includes vanilla Destiny, the two expansions, and TTK.

The alternative is to buy the two expansions ($35) and then buy TTK ($40).

Preordered Taken King. Is there any 'lore' I should read before diving in (about Destiny in general, never played)?

I know Destiny is critiqued by their lacklustre lore, but I wonder.

Destiny isn't critiqued for its lore. It's critiqued for the lack of its implementation within the game as well as the story. You could find a lot about the lore if you go to the various destiny wiki's out there.

The lore is actually quite fascinating. It's the game's story that is lacklustre.

There's a lot of interesting lore, but to this point little of it has actually been found in the game. Hopefully TTK fixes some of that.

The closet you can get to the lore while playing is with the companion app.
Also, not true. The wiki's have basically taken all the cut up material from the grimoire cards and put it into a much more cohesive body of work, though I see the point you're making. It should be within the game.

Bit of a random question, but is there any way to do a Strike alone? Got some specific things to do for a quest, but it's almost impossible with everyone else also firing in at bosses etc.

Not unless it's a nightfall. Or you have friends join you in a strike and they leave. Those spots may eventually get filled though.

I take it you mean how fast you can unlock your new subclass?

Apparently once you finished the first one or two story missions you get a quest to unlock your new subclass.
Ok thanks, I hope it's just the first few missions because the environment in the scene that I'm assuming plays when you get access to the new subclass looks very dreadnaught-y and I know the story starts on Phobos.

I thought they sought to address this a bit with TKK? Even revising old missions, etc. to give them more context.
I can't comment on old missions as I still haven't redone them but I have seen a video of the first TTK mission and you can use your ghost to scan things ala metro if and get info so they're taking some steps to correct their mistakes. If only we could get grimoire cards in game now too.

A friend and I are teetering on the edge of picking up the Taken King PS4 bundle this week to play Destiny. We both enjoy Halo (1 and 2, haven't played one since) and Borderlands 2 and Destiny looks like a mashup of the two from watching videos and streams. The only other game I'd be likely to use the PS4 for is Bloodborne, at least until next year.

Would you buy a PS4 primarily for Destiny?

If you already have, any regrets?

It's a lot of money and I'm just looking for opinions to justify the purchase for myself.

Is there any reason why I can't find anything other than the stupidly expensive legendary edition on PSN? am I just bad at searching?

to clarify: I have everything destiny already

The new mission structure doesn't really add lore per se, so much as context for why missions follow one another. As an example, two early missions are framed as scouting missions to investigate Fallen troop movements, which lead to the discover of the Hive on Earth, which leads into finding out why they're on Earth (preparing to raise Crota / invade),which leads to trying to stop them (TDB missions), etc. It's not great fiction, but the campaign is at least coherent now. It's a big improvement from the borderline random missions before.

That's good to hear.

The Grimoir card thing would be so easy to implement in the full game. For the life of me I don't get why they keep them all stuck online. Ridiculous.

Actually, as far as we know, the subclass quest missions take place on Multiplayer maps :)

Just so I'm clear: I have Destiny, but neither of the DLC expansions already. My best bet with this is to shell out $60 for the legendary edition? Seems to be the only way to go from Vanilla straight to TTK.

Yes.
Trade in vanilla at Gamestop and get 20 dollars off the legendary edition.

If you can,you can trade in your Destiny copy at gamestop for 20$ off for Taken King.

Edit : Wrong Thread.

I went ahead and bumped up to the Legendary collection (selling the other 2 expansions to a friend for $10). So with Best Buy Player Club.. 60 - 20% = $48.00 - 10.00 = $38.00.. lookie its cheaper than Digital version and I can resell it later for a pack of gum. :)
