Destiny - The Taken King |OT| Time to Explain

Well I'm an idiot. I spent last night trying to get my light up for the raid. I didn't bother looking up any strategies, I just started running the post-oryx missions. Needless to say, I only got to about 239 light. I took a quick look at the strike playlist, noticed it only rewarded blues and promptly ignored it. Now that I'm at work I realized my mistake. I am not a smart man...

Thanks to Three of Coins, I got this fancy thing

I think someone found the Ghostbusters vehicle and downsized it into a sniper rifle!
The flavor text for the new guns is so great, these little story moments. There was a shotgun called The Chaperon that was similar in how it told an entire story in one sentence.
I think there's already a big thread flowing with a river of salt about this, keep it in there thanks.
Thing is, that thread was overwhelmingly people concern trolling; folks not impacted or even playing the game but taking the opportunity to be angry anyways because fuck if I know. But there actually are people impacted and it does kind of suck for them and it's okay if they say so.

Nah, it's just taking a while to get used to the new gear systems. The biggest shock to me is you don't need any advanced strategies to progress. You just play, and the drops are good enough to inch you forward steadily. I've upped my light level every single play session this week, and I've done a different mix of stuff each time. Even just running the daily mission this morning (which kicked my ass), two engrams enabled me to go up two more light levels.

What a crazy concept: just play the game and you'll progress. We're so used to roadblocks that it feels weird, but I can get used to this.

Can anybody help?

I redeemed the code for The Taken King in the Legendary Edition, I just bought and all it says is 'Thank you for redeeming your code' and that's it! No download and it doesn't appear in my library.

Did you already have Destiny installed, and are you on the Xbox?

I had the trial installed before purchasing, and so I went to my games and clicked "Manage Game". The DLC was in there and already downloaded. But you need to select download for it to activate.

Have you launched Destiny since you redeemed the code? It appears to me like The Taken King was actually part of the download with the patch to 2.0 last week and all the code does is unlock access to it.

Destiny is already installed (it's essentially the same disc that came with the original game) only with a code for the DLC. I tried downloading it under Related Items but nothing worked.

Yeah, it just installed an update and now it appears to be The Taken King. That was a little odd but thanks for your help guys.

Thanks I might come back to it once I've levelled up and seen all the new content
I'm looking to do the raid myself. I just hit level 25 last night and have just been going through all the rest of the campaign missions and strikes.

If you're on PS4, go ahead and add me.

Two things

1. If you create a quest for getting throwing knife kills in crucible you shouldn't take away the ability of them to be a one hit kill.
If I creep up behind someone and throw a knife into the back of their head they should not be able to turn around and kill me with a single Storm Fist

2. Telesto is gonna change crucible. It is the perfect counter to blink strike shotguns. I have gotten so many kills this morning with it. Shoot and jump out of the way. Love it!

Just got this..................

Haha I got that last night too. Thing is a beast!

Reload is terrible though so I need to unlock that faster perk asap. The weapon is from Year 1 correct too that carried over to Year 2? And yeah I used it in PVP last night....lol

Just so I'm sure I"m not wasting my day--

I have a rare several hours today to play this game nonstop. To get my light level up, is doing the strike playlist what I should be doing? I can just do that all day...?

I went from 230 to current 264 doing the Vanguard Strikes, 5 of them, and 1 Heroic strike. The amount of blue drops I ended up getting far surpassed some of the legendaries I had equipped. lol

I love the three of coins item. I didn't farm story mode bosses and got all of my engrams by playing the level 36 vanguard playlist.

My main is a Warlock. I got the following exotics:

Primary
Hawkmoon

Special
The 4th Horseman

Helm
Light Beyond Nemesis

Chest
Starfire Protocol

I also got three armor pieces for Titan and Hunter classes which is fine because I want to start a second character.

I did get the new Warlock robes, The Alchemist's Railment, last night too so I was extremely happy with that. I mean it looks cool anyway. lol

How many Three Of Coins did you guys use? I had success twice with using 5 and 10 at once but my second attempt with using 10 came up empty. Is there a sweet spot in your estimation?

Just use one at a time, I went through 45 coins one at a time and got 12 drops. It's about one per 5 pack you buy on average.

I have the whole afternoon free.....I'm kinda torn between my desire to play the game legit, and the nagging sensation that I should be farming Draksis like nuts for all the exotics I can get. Farming is really not that fun though....

Same...but I can only get 10 three of coins. Once they are gone that's it. The fun with die if you aquired all the exotics in one sitting

Me and my buddies are gonna try the raid tonight. Any write up on the mechanics yet? Or do I have to watch a 7 hour video? lol

I haven't played Destiny since a month after vanilla launch and I bought TTK Collector's

I have no fucking idea what to do or where to go. It's frustrating :( all I did was around the Tower checking out the vendors and I can't buy anything

Any pointers to get me started? I'm level 27

Play through the story. Most of the vendor armor and weapons are end game things, you'll work your way there.

Just do story stuff for now. It should help you level and the taken kings story is a big step forward from vanilla destiny. After that i recommend the strike playlist to get gear once you hit 40.

And of course there is always crucible.

Press start and go one tab to the left. There should be a screen with all the quests you can do and details about it.

Man my RNG today sucks. Just spent for 10 TOC and only got 1 exotic engram out of it

Wait Holy shit just typed that as I was turning in the engram and got Year 2 4th Horseman! OH SHIT I didn't even get that in Vanilla Destiny

I was in the exact same boat, you'll get back into the swing of it after a few hours. Start with the new storyline, then get on some strikes and then maybe explore the Dreadnaught :)

Thanks. Crucible is pvp right? I don't play pvp so I'll skip that

I'll do the story stuff to start. What's first? In my quests list I see The Dark Below, House of Wolves, Path of the Gunslinger, and Legend of the Hunter.

1 out of 10 is about par for the course. I got 4 engrams from 30 TOCs.

I would feel bad about abusing this if it didn't turn out that the TOC success rate was so abysmally low. They really ought to just make them more expensive, but increase the chance of a drop.
