I had a security turret in my settlement. I walked up to it and hit "store in workbench" and now I want to place it again. I can not find it in my workbench inventory.
Where did it go?

Ok it is not in my build menu , somehow it seems to have vanished? :-(

I don't think it's particularly impressive they've finally gotten basic pathfinding to work lol

I'd argue they haven't even done that. I've seen a lot of the villagers in Sanctuary get stuck to things.

Poor Preston's patrol was cut short when I placed a guard post in his route and he decided to walk in place forever.

I'm fearing spending too much money into settlements and then have they attacked and destroyed. What I build, can be destroyed if attacked?

I'm having issues with the companion A.I as usual. Sometimes they just clip on something and you completely lose track of where they are.

I am missing some aspects from New Vegas, as expected, but so far this game feels like a massive improvement on Fallout 3. Really enjoying it.

I do feel that I am missing some dialogues with some of the characters I have encountered, but maybe that's more immersive then every stranger you happen to meet being open friendly enough to agree to job interview long discussions about themselves, their backgrounds and their goals. :)

I'm not sure all types of answers actually have an effect, but I am going with the sarcastic/lone wolf option whenever it's available, just to see how it plays out.

It's no Fallout 1/2 RPG, but more of an RPG then many other modern AAA RPG's, like the Mass Effect series for example.

There is absolutely no filler in this game. Bethesda have hand crafted the entire game world. You can tell by the small details you find. A couple of examples (nothing too spoilery):

A teddy bear sitting on a toilet wearing glasses and reading the newspaper.

A skeleton in a bathtub next to a toaster.

A Raider burying her dead colleague and mourning him

They keep getting stuck here and there, yeah. I've cleared a couple of hard dungeons easily by managing to get the enemies stuck in stupid places then spamming molotovs.

Companion AI seems even dumber than what it was in 3 and NV, if that's possible.

Eh, I don't see the complaints about having no skill points considering many people also asked for the changes. The game still has plenty of stat checks. Bethesda made a balanced compromise, many people complained that in the other games that being also a shooter, having too many stat checks/having certain stats determine accuracy too much deterred from the gun play itself, missing a shot even very close up when playing it more like a shooter didn't feel right. There wasn't really a balance between the two forms of play. Now, they have a compromise on balancing between those who want it more of a shooter than those that also want it with more stats/skills. There is a balance since this was one of the many complaints of previous games any ways, Bethesda listened to this feedback. It being first person in any case means it needs this balance, if you want heavy stat checks its better to do a game like Fallout and Fallout 2, but it being first person as it is, it needs balance between the two. In my opinion I think it's a good balanced change since I also played them in a style straddling both forms of gameplay when I felt like it, many people do.
Then it's not an RPG anymore. If your shooting stays the same and is only modified by Perks, then it's nothing more than a shooter with a skill tree like Far Cry 3. I really liked how in 3/NV if you wanted to be good with and do damage with guns you had to spend points in the various gun skills. It felt like you were actually progressing, actually defining your character. Now, it's a stripped-down bastardized mess.

I have to agree, it's a true joy to explore.

Every nook and cranny feels lived in and crafted.... so much love has gone into this game.

GOTY as expected.

- all locations have their own "feel". The use of colors and light seems planned to a great extent.

- I love how the game extends in altitude. I like that every settlement has one or two sniper nests to engage enemies or to inspect your surroundings. I went Piz Palu on the first raider gang I've met and it was fun as hell.

- the AI is amazing. Watching Dogmeat dive into rubble and buildings for minutes and coming out without getting stuck a single time, or watching enemies sprinting through a maze of ledges and corridors to chase you, surround you, and climbing to get an height advantage is incredible. IMPRESSIVE work.

- the background music. Leaps and bounds better than Fallout 3, and perfect to set the mood in every situation.

- fun to play as a third person shooter. I like how unique weapons really look completely different than the standard and the modded ones.

- proportions of settlements. Cities and towns look more believable. It's confusing at first but I really like the fact that "towns" aren't limited to five houses and two families like 3.

- dialogue system. People dislike it and I don't know why: not only you aren't locked in view so that you can look around while people talk your ears off, the new system is snappy and essential. Voice actors do a great job and facial expressions are well executed. I really hope they stick to this system for the next Elder Scroll.

- "style". Characters are very recognizable by the way they dress, their voice and their mannerisms. Lots of little details in their attire and their behaviour.

- surprised to see Bethesda flawlessly integrate some of Obsidian additions in NV. And the settlements are so easy to manage I kind of feel bad to stick to exploration most of the times. Kind of. XD

- Lady Killer perk seems pretty useful. Everytime I get to a new settlement I'm like "oh, look: GIRLS!" with a smirk on my face.

- ENEMIES' CHATTER. Arkham games level of fun and believability here. The taunts they scream and the way they coordinate with each other to surround you is so cool!

- Psycho activations! First time I used it I laughed so hard I ended up coughing.

- the little stories told at each shack by the items and the surroundings. They tried this in the previous games but it didn't work as good as it does here. Props, Mr. Howard. Props.

Bethesda really are gods...

Liking the game so far, of course one of the 1st bloatflies I encountered is half stuck in the geometry and shaking around every time I go back to that area. Tried to trap it in some crafted ashtrays rofl.

The building, oh god the building. When I saw you can be in build mode and scrap selected items I think I cleared out every single item that made sense to remove from the available radius. Where did the time go?

I'm only a few hours deep but is the weather randomized? I got caught in a lightning storm and it looked amazing especially with the flashes of light. Is that tied to a specific location or can that happen anywhere?

Also since I'm colorblind and have a hard time seeing the difference between the green and yellow, I had to change the hud color to a whiteish one so I could see the speech check options. Helped a lot

Some stuff I noticed during playing that might be interesting :

General stuff:
- Some outfits also have SPECIAL boosts. For example, wear a fine suit und hat before an important conversation to increase your charisma level.
- All items and bodies will stay where you left them. If you forgot something somewhere - don't worry: you can go there later
- low intelligence + high luck and the Idiot Savant perk grant you high increases in XP and thus levelling faster
- You can probably skip parts of the main quest if you pay attention (if wanted I can detail that)
- Merchants restock and have money again after 24 hours
- Diving in water is upping your rad level rather fast
- hold A or X(PS4) to leave power suits
- hold B or Circle to enable your flashlight
- hold X or Square to holster your weapon (mind that attacking will use the weapon you just holstered, if you want to fight with your hands, you would have to unequip your weapon)
- Pressing X or Square while shooting in Vats will give you a criticial hit when your critical bar is full
- Radiation storms are beautiful

Settlements and crafting:
- When in front of a workbench, press X or Square to start transfering trash. Press Y or Triangle to move all your trash. The resources will automatically used - no need to scrap those items.
- Each Settlement has it's own inventory of resources
- You need to assign settlers to transfer resources if you want to have access to all your resources in every settlement. (You need the leadership perk for this)
- To assign jobs to settlers, enter building mode and approach a settler
- You can remove mods from weapons without scraping them
- You don't need to repair any gear outside of your power suit armor parts (you need a power suit station for this)
- If you need a particular resource, you can mark it within the crafting menu. This will cause a symbol appearing over trash items in the world that consist of that resource.
- Walls only snap to BUILT floors. The concrete floors you get after scraping a whole building don't act as a reference
- If you layer items and want to move one lower laying item, you move all on-top items with it

The more I am playing this the more I dislike this game. To the point where the review scores are incomprehensible to me.

- this game is a technical mess. The performance sucks, everything is janky and I already encountered what seems to be a quest breaking bug.

- Quest structure is absolutely uninteresting. You either just listen to things or you go somewhere, kill a bunch of stuff and the head back. Where is the interesting decision making? Where is my influence on this world?

- Which brings me to the next problem the terrible dialog system. If you can even call it a system. You can either ask a question about what you you were just told or basically pick anything and just move along with the dialog. What is this? Why are the not a bunch of questions I can ask? Why is charisma so useless? You could play this game just by pressing X through every conversation and let things play out. The might as well be no choice.

- The story is boring and coupled with my other problems the whole experience is kinda just boring me.

- Don't care for the whole settlement stuff.

- Combat is just a shooter now. Barely any reason to use VATS so far. Maybe if you have something that bum rushes you.

I am incredibly disappointed in this game, but maybe I should not have expected anything else after I disliked Skyrim.

Oh I just read, that the storing-all-trash-function is bugged?!
If one item has multiple resources, the game only deducts the one resource needed and the others are lost cause the item is destroyed.

Man, the shooting is incredibly satisfying -- not even just on an, "improved over past Fallout games' combat systems", even after playing a hefty amount of Black Ops 3 before coming here, I'm still continuously impressed with the way combat feels, and the way the guns handle. Dedicated melee is generally less impressive, but i'm not really playing with it, although the quick-R1 melee is quite appreciated, as well as the contextual animations for finishing an enemy with that attack. A specific example, the fight with the super-mutants at the satellite array (part of an early BOS quest). The only irritating thing was the one-hit-kill missile user. Although I worked out by sniping him (not killing him, just tagging him -- I didn't have the firepower to take him out in just a few hits) he'd become cautious, and actively abandon his post and come search for me, equipping an assault rifle. The whole thing was awesome, then it became a ground level fight, with assault rifles and shotguns, constantly being flanked and ducking into cover, a suicide mutant came after me with a pack of dogs, I managed to round them up by baiting them around structures, to a point where one molotov triggered the suicide mutant, and blew him, his melee using buddies, & his vicious dogs. It was a spectacular encounter, although I did die quite a few times mastering a strategy to do this well at around level 10.

One more thing -- I had my first crash today. Expected but still disappointing. Then I tried to open my computer and realized my power went out because construction workers were outside of my house laying cable for improved internet, so about 20 hours in, still no crashes.

Can anyone explain the hacking mechanic I closed the tutorial window to quick.

It's the same as the previous games.

Begin by approaching the computer terminal you wish to hack, and press unlock. This will bring you into the terminal screen, which will display several columns of words wedged in between random characters and symbols. The words are potential passwords, and it is your job to figure out which word is correct. Some words split between two lines, but are still viable candidates. All potential passwords will have the same number of letters for the given lock. The number of attempts you have remaining is indicated by a series of green squares near the top of the columns, and usually begins with four attempts. As you scan the list of characters, you may be able to highlight groups of symbols. Selecting these groups can potentially remove dud words or reset your number of attempts.

Begin by selecting one of the words in the list to make your first guess. Picking a word that has a similar structure to some of the other words can potentially help narrow down the list. Highlight a word and select it to make your guess. If you are lucky, you might unlock the terminal on the first try. In the high likelihood that you chose incorrectly, your entry will be denied and your guessed word will be listed on the right corner of the terminal screen with a Likeness number. The Likeness number indicates the number of letters in your guessed word that exactly match the terminal password in both letter and position. The Likeness number can aid you in narrowing down the potential password from the remaining set.

Compare your initial guess to the remaining options available, keeping the Likeness number in mind. Even a Likeness of zero can help indicate which letter positions are not found in the password. If the Likeness is above zero, look for words in the list that share the same letters in the same positions as your guessed word. The higher the Likeness, the more you should be able to narrow down the remaining options.

Failing to select the correct password in the allotted attempts will cause you to be locked out of the terminal for 10 seconds, after which you can try again. However, each fresh attempt will offer a totally new set of words for you to work with. Keep in mind that terminals with red unlock text are owned by someone. Hacking an owned terminal is a crime that, if detected, can cause NPC’s to become hostile toward you.

Helped a settlement, went to report to the random settler that wanted me to help them, then noticed a trader visiting. Decided to kill the trader cause he had two legendary items, and I never got them - if you have a wandering trader in your game, the items he's selling are obviously WITH him, where the fuck do they disappear when you kill them? Bullshit, if you don't want to make the game too easy for people who kill traders, don't give them stupid good stuff for crying out loud.

Also, I accidentally hit the brahmin with them, the innocent brahmin, and fucking everyone in the settlement grabbed their guns and started shooting it. They've clearly joined the minutemen, alright! Saving the people, one brahmin at a time. Crazy fuckers, had to kill them afterwards. I mean, they shot an innocent animal!

You experienced a radiation storm. It's random, weather events can happen at anytime, anywhere. I had my first radiation storm while I was standing on the deck of a US Navy boat.

You'll find power armor "racks" across the game. They're yellow cradles for your power armor. Just plop your armor near there and it'll be "in" the rack.

I think he means with the steel hooks hanging the armor from the rack, but I don't think that actually happens anyway

Can anyone explain the hacking mechanic I closed the tutorial window to quick.

you're searching for the terminal's password. it'll be an actual word and you have fours attempts.

if your first guess is incorrect, it'll tell you how many letters from that word are in the same position as the correct word.

if you get to the last attempt, don't try anything because you'll be locked out of the terminal if you're wrong. just back out and try again.

The post-apocalyptic Minecraft / Sims / property development / architecture simulator thing that's going on here can be an actual game itself, i'm hooked.

I can see myself consuming half of my time in this segment alone.

Good lord the bugs and issues on PC.

Took me a few hours to fix the "stuck at terminals" bug (had to put monitor refresh rate to 120hz).

Now I have an issue where my walking is more like a full on sprint. I didn't mess with the .ini, so not sure why it's doing this.

Also, the voices and syncing are a mess. NPC's can't finish a sentence without them starting his next one, so they are talking over themselves.

So anyone encounter a
Swan
yet? I'll just say that I'm glad for the conviniently placed bus nearby. And for some reason hiding inside the bus broke the creature's AI where it just stood its place while I chipped away at its health from the safety of my newly found shelter.
