The Freeman and El Diablo Pantaloons will be the foreign title.

In Japan it'd be butchered to 'Free My Pants'

Don't encourage him dammit :p

Naw man directors dont sign multifilm contracts let alone competitor clauses

Directors tend to work with the same studio a lot, and with Disney/WB on such opposite sides of the spectrum, they wouldn't hire someone who worked on another one. Unofficially, of course.

Think about that for a second
Who owns what

Marvel Comics and DC comics are at odds in the COMICS space. Marvel comics selling more can mean DC comics selling less, thats how that market unfortunately works

WB and Disney have no competitive relationship unless one of their movies literally opens on the same date. Marvel films vs DC films is only in fanboy brains.

More than that, he was able to work with Sylvester Stallone on a movie featuring Sly's most iconic character and still make it his own. Coogler knew how to hit the beats we want from a Rocky movie while making it fresh and exciting. These skills - handling opinions and finding new angles on well-worn stories - would serve him well on Black Panther

This is a very excellent point.

Silly that people think Marvel is the only ones that are very hands-on and protective about their own franchises. If a director is able to navigate that and not feel stifled, they are a good fit with how Marvel Studios works.

Thought the topic was referring to the band Creed at first lol. I have heard good things about the film though at least.

They'll hire him, let him and the people around him do the brunt of the creative work then fire him due to "creative differences" alter the script as they please and ship.

As long as the movie doesn't take 8 years to fisnish i'm OK with the MAHVEL way.

Marvel announces they got the Fantastic Four rights from Fox. Coogler hires Michael B Jordan to appear in Black Panther as the Human Torch.

Would instantly kill my hype.

Michael B. Jordan needs to go play Wally West, Nick Fury III or just stay away from comic book roles for a long while. Let that stench of F4 pass.

This is so the opposite in the actual fandom, though. Here on GAF for example, the squabbling between DC and Marvel film fans is immense, while nobody who reads comics seems to care about anything beyond the creative team.

Even on the business end in comics, you have creators skipping back and forth between the two. Doubt you'll see that with competing studios nearly as often.

So I really don't know what you're talking about. Hell, the lack of things like DC/Marvel crossovers really only came up after they became big business in Hollywood.

Let the casuals have their company wars.

Join the club.

Oh i know. I'm most talking about how both Daffy and Donald had to be the SAME screen time and lines, same with Bugs and Mickey. Not one second less nor flub.

That's some crazy shit. And neither could look better than the other, right?

Let the casuals have their company wars.

You ain't slick bitch, I seen that top 2016 comic book movie thread!

To be frank, I think Ryan Cooler, while a great choice for BP, would be better suited pursuing his passion projects if he has any. But if he is really into doing BP then I don't see many better options.

I know it's unlikely, but damn it to hell if I don't see Luke and Sam hitting the town up with T'Challa in the future.

hope not.

would much prefer he was doing something that he had more creative control over.
Aside from you strangely being more concerned over his possible career moves than he is, what difference does it make? He's 29, it's not like he'll never make another movie again if he directs Black Panther.

It's kind of odd how nearly every black director always makes movies featuring black people in the starring role. I mean most movies are directed by white guys starring white people but it's still really strange. I wonder if every black director that makes it into the industry feels obligated to put black actors is starring roles because so few movies do so?

I think it's interesting that you blame black directors specifically for that.

Well, Hollywood being as racist as it is, sure as fuck isn't going to put black leads in anything if they can avoid it.

It'll be a brave new world when we get a black woman leading a major blockbuster, or really any minority female lead.

Monica Rambeau/Kamala Khan for Captain Marvel, y'all. Also, black Hawkman and Hawkgirl. I ain't forgot about you, DC.

There is barely any representation of minorities in TV and film, thanks in no small part to white directors and white executives not hiring minorities. So when a black director is going to make a film, you can be sure as hell they'll want to include the black community that has been sidelined or unfairly portrayed so many times.

THR is reporting the talks are taking place.

Ryan Coogler, the director who is coming off of the surprisingly strong opening of Creed, is in negotiations to direct Black Panther, Marvel Studios' movie featuring the first black superhero.

The move puts the on-off dance the studio and the filmmaker have been minueting back in sympatico. Coogler had met with the studio earlier in the fall but talks cooled. Now, with the afterglow of Creed’s success, negotiations are back on.

Maybe Marvel has let directors have a little more control with their movies since Gunn & Guardians but I seriously don't know if it even matters what director gets a Marvel movie. They rarely keep any directors with a distinct style and even when they do, the film still feels samey. If a Marvel film would give Coogler carte blanche to do whatever he wants to do next in Hollywood though, he should go for it.

"Isn't it weird how X1 often X2s? I mean, I get Y1 does Y2 often enough, but there's just something about X1s that makes it seem like it's really their fault."

I don't know what's up with gaffers and their insistence on literally spelling out the conclusions they're too afraid to come to only to throw them away in favor of "no, no way, it can't be me, it's got to be them, right?"
