Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Chunk 1 (CyberConnect2, UE4) Trailer, "PS4 Console Debut"

You guys saying "this is upper Midgar" need to replay through that intro again. Even upper Midgar has its share of poverty and litter. Abandoned turned over cars, trash on the street.

You've literally just blown up a reactor when you head through that part of town so yeah it's gonna be pretty trashed at that time. When you head back later the city is under attack so yeah it's gonna be a bit messy. The point being made was that the poster was asking for the slums details to be in upper Midgar when there is supposed to be a class difference between the locations.

As long as the gameplay isn't basic and can be very challenging in a complex (not cheap) way then I don't mind the change. I'd be surprised if anyone didn't honestly feel it would be this way in their hearts.

Looks like the FFXV engine through and through, but I don't think the battle system was interactive in this demo. Seems just like an overlay for visual purposes as we didn't see it move from anything except the Attack Command, even when Barrett did what looked like a limit break it didn't show anything out of the ordinary in the interface.

Broski this is getting old real fast.

Do you think people aren't passionate about this? Look at this thread and all over the internet. People are understandably split on it. DLC like that has value provided they don't have to remake the game from the ground up for it (which they might, I'm not a programmer).

Midgar looks too clean. I'm not sure why any FFVII fan would think this is faithful at all. Midgar is a place that sales a dream, but is actually a dreary, polluted, trash-filled wasteland. In the original FFVII after the bombing, the first thing you see are people running around and power surging due to the explosion. When you run into Aerith, you're on a trash filled street with signs knocked over and people scattering for safety.

And they decide to make Midgar perfect looking and sleak and new?

I just don't like it.

Looks reasonably comparable to me (we don't get many looks at the non-slums sections).

Nomura was wearing Roen today. Its the brand that designed the main outfits in FFVersusXV.

The skullbrand is hard to make out in the crappy pic but it was clear in the stream that it is.

I think at this point the remake just isn't for me. I've already pre-ordered it but I don't know if I'll actually play through the game, future info and trailers will decide that.

Either way, I'm not gonna throw a fit or complain about people liking this. My personal taste is that this doesn't look good and isn't being faithful to the original game which I love. All I can do is be happy that if this is the direction they're taking remakes then I'm hoping they don't ever touch VIII, my favourite game. A remake for me is tweaking the bad parts, touching up graphics and adding more content, not changing the whole look and feel of a game.

I'm a bit concerned about the voice acting though but it seems like they just put that together really quick. Should have gone with the Japanese VA.

So what do you guys think they are going to replace the world map with; narrow corridors or a menu where you select your destination?

I'm guessing narrow corridors.

I admit I have skepticism. My Midgar complaint is due wholly to Crisis Core. I never thought they could ever replicate the grit and feeling of Midgar short of modern pre rendered backgrounds REmake style and Crisis Core I felt, kinda proved me right. I remember playing it and thinking,"this isn't Midgar."

They have a product for those of you who can't handle ATB, it's called the original Final Fantasy VII.

Yeah, a product with no voice acting, PS4 textures and environments, and the additions this remake will surely have. That's totally what me and a bunch of other people have been asking for for a decade.

i hope this game finally answers one of the mysteries i always had

1. Did Cloud genuinely believe he was Zack

2. or did Cloud lie and pretended to be Zack?

The remake design is less soft than the Advent Children one, and quite different from the somewhat plasticky faces of Smash and Dissidia.

Dissidia:

Advent Children:

Remake:

Feels more like an actual person and less like an unrealistic doll. I love the scrawny arms for the same reason, they give him character, they make him feel unique, unlike generic shooter character #345.

"who wants a remake to be the same gameplay?! play the original!"

most acclaimed, successful remakes:

Resident Evil

Metroid: Zero Mission

Final Fantasy 4 DS

Dragon Quest 4, 5, 6, 7

*none of which dramatically changed the gameplay *

Oh I agree, Crisis Core Midgar was way too clean, even in the slum areas.

But I just don't think the same applies in regards to the remake, it looks great honestly.

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

I just do not understand this mindset. at. all.
Well, opinions.
I find it slow and dated + boring for today's standards.
I enjoyed it back in 2000 when I was a kid BUT it wasn't the combat system that made me like the game in the first place, so I prefer ARPG by far.

While I have always loved Final Fantasy 7, and would certainly blow a hobo in an alley way to play it today, my favorite has always been FF8. I would gag on a big floppy donkey dong in the middle of Times Square on Christmas Day for a chance to make a FF8 remake a reality.

Some people have high prices they're willing to pay for long-shot possibilities. That is one of mine.

Edit: They need to set the muscle slider tone a little higher on Cloud's babby looking arms.

So happy they updated the combat. ATB is too slow of a system to be relevant these days.
Wtf... I saw this same comment like 100 times here.... Turn based is god tier for rpg fans. Especially for hardcore Final Fantasy/Dragon Quest fans.. What the hell are you talking about? I take any old FF Turn based game over any of lastest FF game. Stop with this nonsense shit.

I'm more of a purist like you, but I'm fine with the changes.

But remake can really mean whatever the developer wants it to mean really.

It's not like there's a set formula a developer must follow.

Wow, that trailer was so damn good!

As a preface, I love Final Fantasy, especially 7, but the first reveal of the remake was more of a "oh cool, I'll pick that up at some point", as I've been waiting buying a PS4 until I have a bit more time, and more games (that interest me personally) come out.

But after seeing this trailer, I will be buying a PS4 for this game. Take my money, all of it.

This is why I don't envy square.

No matter what there will be a ton of butthurt people over any choice they make with this game.

good luck

A whooole lot of people in this very thread have been completely freaken out by the combat, putting the whole project under the bus because "Muh ATB".

We've known almost since the announcement the combat would not be the same. We know why: They don't want to make the same game again. There's the FF7 PC port for that. Actively whining about this now is being either obtuse, naive or just plain ignorant. Especially when we know almost nothing about it on the long run (materia, how the mechanics actually work, how will parties work). And there's a whole lot of nostalgia shades going on when it comes to FF7's original combat.

"They have entirely changed most of the gameplay". Yes, that is the whole point of the remake to BEGIN WITH.

So yeah, i'm being mean, but at this point really it's because it's too easy

Really excited for this. I was skeptical at the announcement, but I like the direction they're going for so far.
