Plasma, LCD, OLED, LED, best tv for next gen

Well it looks like it is a good budget tv, looking at http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/vizio/e-series-2015 the review looks good mostly, and this random video on Youtube makes it sound like it wont be a bad monitor.

Figured I would ask here if anyone has any Opinions of it.

Its a really stand out budget line. The only thing to watch out for that I'm aware of is that certain sizes seem to have some IPS panels out there. I think the 43" may be one of them, so its worth some research. Not that its an end of the world thing. You'd just trade better blacks for better viewing angles.

so what tv do you guys recommend thats a good gaming tv thats 42in? hopefully below $1k. doesn't have to be 4k but if i can find one good for gaming.. I'd consider it. thanks

Saw a flat OLED from LG being teased on AVSForums. A signature series or something. Please have improved input lag. I so want to buy one of those in 2016.

50" TV for your bedroom? Damn.

Also, a 50" TV that comes with just one HDMI port? Double damn.

Bedroom is pretty damn big if I'm being honest. Plus I only need a single port for the console, no need for smart functions.

Would like other recommendations too in the 46-50 inch range.

Do any of these new sets have a function to de-smart them? Sometimes I just need a "screen" (when playing games or watching movies).
My experience so far was with a LG I bought my parents. It features webos or whatever it's called and I don't like it a bit since it takes like 30s for the tv to boot up,multiple load screens to get to the settings menus etc.

Might you happen to have a link?

Not sure if it's been mentioned in this thread yet, but the 2015 Vizio M series has incredibly low input lag, and great picture once you calibrate it properly. I picked up the 60 inch model a couple months ago, and it's fantastic.

If you're buying a large TV for games, this is the list you should be choosing from. http://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/by-test-results/input-lag

Since Stealthcobra was asking for something around 42in and 4k, here's a link to the 2015 M series on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T63YMGK/?tag=neogaf0e-20

Lots of discussion about LG OLED's and input lag. Fwiw, I ended up nabbing a new 55EG9100 (2016 model) and have not encountered any noticeable input lag. The 2015 models have a recorded ms of ~43ms. No idea if that's lower in the 2016 model, but as someone who predominately plays twitch shooters, I've noticed no lag at all. Blops 3 results below while using this set.

I also have a Sony X930C and I still favor the OLED. I've always been an XBR man, but after my experience with the LG I'm OLED for life - I refuse to by a non-OLED set moving forward.

I lucked out. Costco had the set on sale for $1,000 during Black Friday. I was very, very nervous about the input lag after reading up on OLED, but to my surprise, 0 issues with this set.

Only $1000? How did I miss that? I have a Costco membership and told myself I'd pick one up on BF if it was on sale. :/

That LG Signature line looks like the Art Wall model that didn't release. I believe it was going to be the EF9800. With the integrated sound bar.

Will be interesting to see what exactly it is and what features it has. Most importantly if they fixed the vignetting, tint, and lowered the input lag.

That looks sexy man. I have been thinking about retiring the 500M in the office and going to an OLED in there as well, I just haven't done it yet, as I want curved for the office. I already have the 65 EF9500 in the living room, but a nice 55 inch curved display for the office is what I'm planning once they make them with HDMI 2.0a, so I can get HDR over HDMI.

I'm in the same boat though. I will never buy anything that is not OLED. It's OLED or nothing.

I really wish there wasn't such an effort to make TVs as thin as possible. Shit has killed off or made a bunch of better quality related things over expensive.

That's really only an issue with LCD's since it takes away space for backlight, was never an issue with plasma, as they were only able to get so thin and they never went below that size. With OLED they are pretty damn thin and the image it produces is outstanding.

You gonna be waiting a long time. 1080p TVs are dead.

Its unfortunate since a lot of content is still SD, in terms of TV programs on Sky. And the SD content ive seen on 4K displays looks quite terrible compared to my 1024x768 plasma. I run this a my main TV over my LG 1080p LEDs, which although show a bit more detail, dont create the atmosphere with their colour representation. 1080p with decent processing would be ideal for me and my viewing disatnce:screen size. It seems way to early for 4K to me.
I will have to test new 4K OLEDs of 2016 on SD content before i bite.

Could be. At the very least it's gone through a redesign in the past year.

The EF9800 was a EF9500 with a sound bar and a more powerful processor. Many were hoping it would resolve the complaints regarding motion and input lag. Now a year later all bets are off.

Skyworth just announced new OLED models for the Chinese market using new LG OLED panels. Should be a hint of what is to come.

Pricing converted to USD
55" - $2,300
65" - $3,850
800 nits brightness
Dolby Vision support
Ships with 4 pairs of 3D glasses so new panels still support 3D

Won't hold my breath on OLED pricing being that low in the US though. LG CES press briefing is next Tuesday along with most everyone else.

The news I wanted to I wanted to hear.

Yeah, but how long until they're available, and how long until we find out what the input lag is?

I'm guessing at least 8 more months.

So I just learned about the impulse mode on Sony TV's the other day and think the feature seems really promising. I'm aware that it darkens the image somewhat but I can live with that as I mostly play in the dark and don't need the maximum brightness. I wanted to ask if anyone uses this feature for current gen or retro gaming, and how your experience has been with it so far?

For those that have not tried this mode yet I recommend that you give it a go on the ghosting test page over at Blur Busters. It really makes a huge difference in clarity.

Agreed. I have the 43 inch model and I love it. Also the scaler is really good. PS4 games can look a tad less jaggie when the tv upscales it. I run my laptop at 1080p on the tv and it looks as good or better than a native 1080p set. 4k was way to small for me even with making the text bigger.

Recently picked up a 60" Samsung plasma for $450 on Craigslist. This will hopefully hold me over until OLED tvs get better and cheaper. Loving it. Moved my 55" LED LCD to the bedroom.

Obviously we don't know the answer to any of these questions unless 1. LG make it a point that they are focusing on input lag for gamers 2. The conference has even started so a release date will probably come then. Don't be such a pessimist, 8 months time? Think about what you just said especially since LG has a huge OLED ad for the Superbowl. 8 months? C'mon dude

No. If the SMART features bother you that much, just disable the network setting on the TV after the initial update and use your source equipment. I have an LG smart TV that is basically a monitor at this point. TV takes like 5 or 6 seconds to turn on.

Nice to see that high brightness on OLED. 2015 models were around 200. 800 might be good enough for HDR. That price seems nice too.

I've been doing some digging on these new Chinese models trying to find more info and I think there is some confusion between an existing OLED model that launched in August with 3D support (Chinese EF9500 equivalent?) and what was announced last week with 800 nits/ DV support. The new model shown with DV support has the exact same chassis as the model that launched in August which seems to be a part of the confusion. Pricing appears to be for the existing model and it is currently unknown if the new panels will support 3D.

Those OLED shots are so very glorious... this thread makes me loathe my 55" Samsung LED. My next television WILL be an OLED of 60" or more, won't be for awhile.. but a man can dream.

Just want to offer my two cents/impressions regarding the LG OLED EG9100.

I own a Pioneer Kuro LX5090, which I bought brand new in 2011, I think. Over time it developed a red tint to the blacks, and they're not quite as deep anymore, so when my parents offered me a decent price for it about 6 months ago, I started looking for a replacement.

I've waited for OLED TVs for quite some time now, but I thought the price was a bit too high, so I decided to buy a Sony W805, which I'd keep for a couple of years before buying an OLED. I returned it, and kept the Kuro for a while longer.

In the meantime, some new LG OLED models came out, and I decided to buy the 9100 on Black Friday. Yesterday I called the store, and told them I'll return it.

Why?

Because, even though the blacks are awesome, it has several problems, some more irritating than others, and I can't justify paying that much money for a product that is pretty much non-future proof (non-4k, non-HDR) as well. The problems I have with it include poor near blacks, vertical banding, vignetting, colour tinting (pink on the left, green in the middle) and the input lag.

I don't know about the 960, but for those of you who consider the EG9100 right now, feel free to buy one, but don't expect a perfect TV. In my opinion, it's sadly far from it. Hopefully we'll have OLED models with no issues in a couple of years, but right now, there are too many issues for me to justify buying it at that price. I can't wait for Sony and Samsung to jump on the train.

I'll buy a Samsung JS9000 as soon as I've returned the LG, and see how it compares. Dat input lag.

I also ended up returning my 55EG9100 for the same reasons you listed. I now have a 65in Samsung JU7500 and I am happy with the change. The extra size, better input lag, and not having to worry about image retention/burn in for about the same price was worth it for me. This is also my first 65in TV which has been great to play games on, and it also fits my viewing distance better than the 55in. I'll move to OLED again once input lag gets at least below 30ms on a 65in.

Interesting that the EG9100 suffers from vignetting. The previous EC9300 didn't have it AFAIK, at least I have none on mine... I've seen pics of it with the 4K sets. Near black issues are there, but that's about it, no tinting either unless I look off angle. Input lag is also slightly lower at 32ms under Game+PC mode.

I still have exactly the same Kuro plasma and I dread the day it packs up, as buying a TV now seems more of a compromise than it was when I bought the Pioneer! I too have the slight red tint to blacks, and I seem to have to recalibrate the contrast and brightness more regularly than ever, as it loses some of it's 'oomph'. Will be a sad day when it goes.

BenQ RL2755HM if you could find one. or the 24" model but I think that's pretty small

Thanks for this, I found it on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00SJANIWA/

Prime delivery, too.

The reviews say that the speakers aren't great - to be expected. My nephews aren't audio experts, but any recommendations for a small set of perhaps 2 speakers that don't need their own power supply?

Thanks.
So I ended up getting this monitor for my nephews. Was pretty easy to set up, just need to calibrate it. The only issue is that it didn't come with a remote control. Is it possible to get a remote control for one of these? Does anyone that has the recently released 'official' remote control for PS4 know if you can control volume with it? I think messing around with volume levels is the main issue, really.

Any recommendations/help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Anyone can help picking a TV? I'm looking for 50" or lower but not less than 40". Don't really want curved, but not a deal breaker. I'll be using it for mostly gaming and watching anime. Budget is $1000 +- 300.

I recently bought a JS8500 65 inch and can't be happier.

For games, its great...the picture is great, for sports its great. Its 4K...is HDR compatible right out of the box...

Im set for a few years.

I mean, for gawds sakes...All I want is to watch football...watch a movie every now and then, and play video games....

It does that...well...

Another Kuro 9G owner here and for the foreseeable future.

As for the red tinted blacks problem, that can be fixed via the service menu if you are confident in doing it. I fixed mine like that and also picked up another red tinted Kuro 9G for very cheap due to the same problem which I fixed the same way. Blacks are as deep as day 1 now.

Hey all

Currently looking at getting a new TV but it's been awhile. Looking to it under $2000 and 60+ inches.

Couple questions though:

- do manufacturers ever release 3D and non 3D versions of the same set? I'm not interested in 3D.

- curved sets seem pointless and fadish but is there a point to them? It seems like an additional cost that doesn't add to the actual picture quality

- Will a quality LED future-proof me for 3-5 years?

- What aspect of HD TVs causes ghosting or shadowing in moving shots like in nature documentaries?

- and of course, 1080p vs. 4k... Is there even a reason to go 4k right now?

Thanks!
