Cool, this thread is about the PC version tho.
What about the smartphone version?
But yeah, glad for a speed up feature... Battles always felt like they took a good bit to start >.>

So I guess they did have the source code after all?
Smartphone version cancelled?
What about the smartphone version?
Great character. Strong female character done right, without being physically aggressive. *cough*Lightning*cough*
Terra is an emotionally abused and in some ways incredibly sheltered young lady who needs the time and space to find her own way in a tipsy turvy world. And, through strength of character and kindness, she does find that way. Protecting and nurturing orphans in a seemingly hopeless world. And she can turn into a pink Barbie. Terra rules.
I sure didn't. Once I found out that the second half of the game was a fetch quest for all the party members that I bothered to level, I deleted my save file and got rid of the game. This! Her level of growth is probably more than any FF character. Also the fixation on her kind of tells me they didn't even make it to the second half of the game.
They lost it, but Ito happened to find it behind the toilet during his janitorial duties.
Of course it's hard when people throw 'worst FF' and 'worst characters' around without any context on it.
How are we supposed to argue with that kind of comments.
A high-speed mode is fine, but I really wish they would fix the internal issues with the game in general. I don't want them to bring all the flaws of the PS1 version into this and hope that "High Speed Mode" will make them palatable.
They really need to just fix the sluggish performance.
- The load times were terrible (which should hopefully be fixed just by being on PC/smartphone)
- Battles ran at 15 FPS (it should be 60)
- Animations in battle are probably also capped at 15 FPS. Those need to get unlocked as well.
Basically, just fix the horrible shit they had to do to get the thing to run on the PS1. Don't use High Speed Mode as a crutch to ignore the engine's problems.
why does it matter if the game is at 60 fps
Silky smooth animations yo~ Then again with 4x speed, the battles would be 60 FPS :V
Ito saved Final Fantasy, confirmed. They lost it, but Ito happened to find it behind the toilet during his janitorial duties.
why does it matter if the game is at 60 fps
Because it's a game and games should run at 60 FPS? It's somewhat crucial as an interactable medium to display and operate smoothly. Doesn't matter what genre it is.
oh, is that all?
Preferences obviously differ, but I am honestly surprised to hear that someone is content with 15 frames per second. You kind of come off as someone who has been living under a rock or something.
Like I mentioned, I have never cared about FPS counts in games. Today is the first time I have ever heard that FF9 runs at 15 FPS, and I...don't really know if I should be mad or not. But the game is still fun to me, so *shrug*
lol, OK.Because it's a game and games should run at 60 FPS? It's somewhat crucial as an interactable medium to display and operate smoothly. Doesn't matter what genre it is.

When you go fro the best protagonist in FF history, Squall to Zidane D Luffy, it's hard to say much more.
lol no, It's near the bottom of the list of final fantasy's but most people that wanted 8 have it already and anyone else buying IX is just to complete the collection.
So, have they stated how they're doing this? FFIX never came out on the PC originally like VII and VIII. Is it going to end up just being an emulation or they actually doing the work to port it over?
Yeah, I mean I need 60fps to select Attack from a menu.
Because there is nothing else in the game besides picking one command from a 2D menu, right?Yeah, I mean I need 60fps to select Attack from a menu.
60 FPS is great for input precision, but that isn't really why it should be standard. It's nice to play a game and actually have it animate and move smoothly. And especially in a game like this where hardware is more than capable of running it at 60 FPS, why shouldn't it?
IX isn't a superior game. It's hyped up by a vocal group but it's not very good especially compared to vii or viii. You're wrong for one simple reason: If people are just buying what's not already in their collection, why is FFVII consistently at the top of the list over that same period? Surely everyone already has that one too, right?
Sorry. Your excuse might work if it were just the first few months of release, but IX has outsold VIII nearly every single month for over two straight years. That's not just people completing collections, that's the superior game selling in greater numbers, just like VII does.

So which FF games are missing from Steam now?
I kinda just want to splurge on all of them just so I can have every mainline game in one place lol.

Your probably right that people want to try it which is why it's selling.

I think you can make the argument that it doesn't matter mechanically for any game. Action games need it for feeling, not mechanics. I think the smooth responsive feeling is worth it for every type of game. That's just me personally. I will agree that it should be the highest priority in action games, but I would rate it near the top for other games, too.All valid points. I'm not saying it shouldn't be 60fps, I'm just saying, from a gameplay perspective, 60fps doesn't really benefit turn based/ menu based RPGs.
Would it benefit the game overall? Absolutely, the game would look even better. Does it need to be? No. You say that it's "somewhat crucial for the medium to display and operate smoothly" but I would say that's more important for action oriented games and fighting games.
Menu based RPGs would LOOK better at 60fps, but gameplay wise, I can't see it helping immensely.

You're saying that like it's a fact when it's not. For me VII is among the weakest in the series and VIII is still good, but can't compare. IX has done something nothing that any other Final Fantasy nor game ever has done and that is shaped the course of my life forever with the impeccable writing, music, and heart. I tell you right now I don't know what I'd do with myself if I never played it.

Either way, let's hope! Even a bump to 30 would help the game a lot; but that battle footage in the trailer didn't look promising.![]()

You know these problems can be fixed, rightCut it with that 60 FPS crap. We now have ways to register inputs almost as fast as 60 on 30, if it's not an action game there is no way to tell them apart with modern techniques.
Also, "smooth animation yummy yum yum" yeah cool. The backgrounds are animated at a much lower framerate. They are not generated in 3D.
Forcing 60 FPS would ruin the game entirely since the characters would behave much faster than the world they are in.
So NO, this game should not be 60 fps for the sake of being 60 fps.
Input response was never my primary argument.Cut it with that 60 FPS crap. We now have ways to register inputs almost as fast as 60 on 30, if it's not an action game there is no way to tell them apart with modern techniques.
Two of the primary game "scenes" are rendered entirely in 3D: battles and overworld. That's a substantial amount of real-time 3D that will benefit from an increased framerate. Also, "smooth animation yummy yum yum" yeah cool. The backgrounds are animated at a much lower framerate. They are not generated in 3D.
"Behave faster"? No, they would animate smoother. You'd get less janky animation. What your point attempted to be is that you'd have the animation for the field maps animating slower than the 3D meshes. But surprise: that's already happening in the PS1 version. The field maps are running at a higher framerate (looks like 30), while the battles and overworld are 15. All the "CG" field map background animations are running well below 30. EDIT: But the game also has a substantial amount of mesh animation on field maps, which would also look better at 60 FPS.Forcing 60 FPS would ruin the game entirely since the characters would behave much faster than the world they are in.
Yes it should, because the issues you listed above aren't accurate. So NO, this game should not be 60 fps for the sake of being 60 fps.
You people haven't really experienced 60fps, havent you?
Lol of course FFIX will benefit from 60 fps because everything benefits from 60 fps.
