Nintendo Removes Controversial Fire Emblem Fates Conversation

It's such a anime troupe.

The whole thing is silly, but so is the game. I don't care either way because the conversations in these last two games have been so goofy that you couldn't take them seriously.

I'll just ignore like I've ignored the rest of the party conversations.
How many Anime have you seen where a character turns another hetero with a potion lol

Does it not being a gay conversion making spiking someone's drink without their consent suddenly okay?

That's my biggest gripe about Soleil, if she's such a yuri lover, why can't she S Rank with any of them?
Yeah the fact that the bi character who goes weak at the knees for cute girls but is very meh on guys can only hook up with the men is super weird.

From what i just watched this removes the drugging context.

Still its very uncomfy she goes from Lesbian to totally loving him as a male and being okay with it.

I don't think it's ever 100% explicitly stated she's a lesbian in the game. Irregardless, in the end when you get the S support, she says she prefers the magic-female look of the male unit, but she fell in love with the personality of the Male Unit and is fine with that.

There's no "conversion" she just likes the Male Unit in the end for the personality of him.

That's how I interpret it from the translation in the video I provided.

I personally have no problem with it based on what I've read about the conversation with a proper translation, but agree with it being changed.

This was literally debunked and taken the incorrect way.

Here y'go. This is someone who can read japanese and explains it simply. Wherever this came from, someone got butt-hurt and took it the wrong, stupid way.

I'm shocked that people are actually so simple to get to jump on the bandwagon.

Thanks. I'll look into this more. Generally speaking, when it comes to something controversial on the Internet, there is often a lot of misinformation out there. Normally, when it comes to most topics, I try to filter all that out to find the truth, but now I know to start applying that same sort of skepticism and caution to the video game press as well.

NoA should just redo most of Soleil's conversations, they're not really that good.

Foleo (pressing on how he's a girl) and Eponine's (literal Yaoi vs Yuri) supports with her in particular come to mind, and at least give her an S support with a female character because it makes no sense that she likes girls, but can't S with any of them

So it's just a phase.

Just more confirmation that most writing in gaming is fucking trash tier. Jesus...

Not really. Its a dumb situation, but now looking at other comments, i'm not quite sure thats how the scenario even plays out. Regardless, that isn't confirmation about most writing in gaming being trash by a long shot / at all.

Yeah the fact that the bi character who goes weak at the knees for cute girls but is very meh on guys can only hook up with the men is super weird.

Maybe because she isn't bi...?
Even the female protagonist can't S rank her.

Awakening had it?
Honest question.

Yeah, but it's all player invoked.

Lucina and Owain are cousins but they can marry as husband and wife in the Japanese version of the game. In the localized releases, they changed their relationship to a unique status called companions. They didn't do this for the other cousins you can bond together in the game though, such as OwainxChrom!Cynthia.

I feel so torn about this. I hate it when content is cut and censored, but holy fuck that support convo sounds so incredibly stupid.

There are a few things like this in Awakening that were cut. In the Japanese version one of Cordelia's... 'quirks' was that she brings up her small breasts every now and then and is upset about them (this is mentioned in dialogue in the english version of the swimsuit DLC though, a lot of the DLC missed localization changes, actually), Nah calls her dad a pedo, uhh... those are the only ones I remember at the moment.

I really expect them to change Zero/Niles support with the younger characters, cause he is uncomfortably pedo-y towards them. (though this might be solved by mentally aging the young characters up a bit instead of changing Zero/Niles)

so they didn't remove anything cause it was never there

gotta love how a lot of the outrage over IF is due to extremely shoddy translations when the game first came out and is still referenced to this day

What's more baffling to me is why that scene is even there to begin with.

Something having to do with Corrin needing a support with every character in the game, and Soleil is no exception.

It's why I would be okay if they just totally redid her character if possibly.

It's pretty much a giant trope, and a rather bad one at that.

Has there been a complete redesign of a character in recent localizations of Fire Emblem?

The only person that I can think of that got close was Henry, but even then he still kind of resembled his original Japanese part.

People can make up almost anything about Japanese games and people will believe it.

Soleil is just a bad character in general.
I don't often use the word "queerbaiting" because it's sorta overused and misapplied to things as a result of projecting certain values onto works where they don't exist, but in this case, yeah, this is a blatant case of queerbaiting. Which is weird given that there are supposed to be actual gay relationships in this one.

Either way, this bad convo won't be missed, outside of brainless reactionaries who had no intention of playing this game otherwise, and just want some excuse to holler "CENSORSHIP!!!!"

It's more like spiking someone's drink with sugar to make them bounce off the walls. It's not like it had a bad effect? It was to get her to talk to the Male Unit and get over her weakness. Not so he could sleep with her or something stupid. It was literally harmless.

It's not like the game is going "PUT LIQUOR IN EVERYONE'S DRINKS GUYS."

No problem. I don't view it as offensive in anyway after watching that video with a proper translation. I was shocked and confused when I first saw it online. I looked around and found his video, and I felt like his translation was a lot better and thought out.

To me it seemed like whoever that site got their translation from, mistook what they read as offensive, or personally got offended for whatever reason. Or just wanted a headline.

I don't know. I haven't paid too much attention to a lot of things. I'm just aware there's usually some toning down in each Fire Emblem game.

I had no idea about this. Likely because I've never married them off, but also because I considered keeping it in the family (overt and implied) a FE tradition at this point.

It's silly anime nonsense, not a roofie.

Cordelia is a pettanko? Damn...

I generally don't have a problem with the FE localizations, but I sometimes would like to play a more accurate translation of them. Like, I know Henry is a COMPLETELY different character in the localized Awakening.

FE4/5 is the only game I can think of with explicit brother sister incest (by 'explicit' I mean they had children, and this is a very bad thing in FE4, lol)

FE4/5 were never localized though.

There are a handful of 'overly attached' brother sister relationships though, but they never do anything. (Raven/Priscilla, Klain/Clarine, Ares/Raquesis)

There is a handful of possible cousin pairs sprinkled across games.

Fates Spoilers:
The MC isn't actually related to any of the siblings except for Azura, who is MC's cousin, so Fates has little true blood incest, but it does have incest of the "thank goodess I'm not actually related to you" kind.

Eldigan? :P

I kiiiiind of hope they downplay the cousin thing because I generally like doing "canon" pairs and from what I understand Corrin(M)/Azura is the "canon" pair they're pushing but meh cousincest.

How was Henry changed? I never heard about that.

...Yeah. Eldigan. Forgive me, I swear Ares and Eldigan look more like twins than father and son >.>

In the Japanese version...One of the female characters, Soleil, is attracted to women, and often gets flustered and weak in the knees when she's around them. She often fears that she can't be a "strong and cool woman" because of this. Later in the support conversations if you pair her up with the male protagonist, he spikes her drink with a "magic powder" that makes her see women as men and vice-versa to help her "practice" around women. This was done without her knowing, as she fails to recognize the protagonist at the start of the conversation. Once the magic wore off, she found herself attracted to the male protagonist, and ends up proposing to him, saying that she fell in love with the female version of him, but now loves him as a male.

what did I just read

So we should just continue to skip all the support dialogue.

The problem is that Soleil and her "quirk" is just poorly written and thought out in general. It very much plays into a Japanese trope that doesn't translate into anything in the west and is ripe with unfortunate implications. So it's dumb, just not "gay conversion with magic potion" dumb.

Explain to me how she is straight then

She can marry like 6 different male characters, and none of them have to use magic to 'trick' her into liking them?
In a game with actual bi characters, and where the protagonist can literally marry every one as long as they are the opposite sex, or a bi character, a female protagonist can't marry her?
Regardless of her terrible character and writing, she doesn't appear to be romantically interested in females. It's just supposed to be a dumb joke that she inherited her 'womanizing' or whatever you want to call it, from her dad.

I don't really care why and what they removed from the game but now English version has less content that the original version. They should add a new conversation instead of removed one.

Man what happened to Fire Emblem? Glad I stopped with Radiant Dawn.
