Anyone have that gif handy from FO4 where the dog is on fire but not even reacting? Would be a great contrast.
Edit: This was all I could find lol

The diamonds weren't just there to compliment the crystalline theme of the game/series, it served as a good marker to see if you were at full health or not. It was fantastic design and I can't believe they got rid of it. I really hope this is just a placeholder, but if the game is releasing this year, then I can see it being final outside of minor tweaks (they need to put the weapon wheel level with health, decrease those bar sizes and hopefully replace those circles with the parallelograms in earlier screens).
Because unless I'm missing something here, enemies still die from being skewered in the chest. Even fantasy worlds have their own rules and physics to abide by. Hence the common criticism about the guys' attire too. Not fit for travel nor battle.
I can understand that it's blind-siding some people, but this is the trajectory I've been wanting for a long time.
Absolutely NOTHING is fit for battling monsters that are, at best, the size of skyscrapers. It's not like some armor would do fuck all at that point. The group being partly protected by Noctis' magic is a better reasoning for how these people can battle Titans than some leather armor protecting them from dragons biting them in half. And the kind of armor people talk about would be even far less appropriate for travel & the game overall for a variety of reasons.Because unless I'm missing something here, enemies still die from being skewered in the chest. Even fantasy worlds have their own rules and physics to abide by. Hence the common criticism about the guys' attire too. Not fit for travel nor battle.
Btw, I might have missed it but have they confirmed if you can swim or not in the final game? Lack of it in Duscae really bothered me.
They showed Noctis in water in this ATR so I figured it's in but then I remembered it might just be for that Leviathan section.
FF has had all of these things for a while now. The trick is where though. Most of these action elements have been relegated to FMVs and set piece moments.
Most of what they've shown, turrets, cars, mechs, guns, etc. etc. etc. have always been a part of FF, but the gameplay is trying to replicate the feeling of playing an FMV. As a person that started playing FF with FFX and then the PSX FFs, this is exactly what I wanted out of the series. The FMVs were what I wanted the games to be like, and the gameplay was more of a stand in to my imagined action. Now FFXV seems to be realizing this.
I can understand that it's blind-siding some people, but this is the trajectory I've been wanting for a long time.
That's fine. A franchise like Final Fantasy has gone on long enough to earn the luxury (or burden? Maybe both) of meaning different things to different people.
Yep it' all player controlled now, you select which weapons using the d-pad and what combos are your choice.
They're implementing the way they always wanted to do it. The 2013 E3 footage shows what they're trying to aim for.
I was referring more to the animation, how the weapons are now opaque and fully visible when the weapon switch occurs, unlike the E3 2013 footage. But now that I'm looking at the rest of the ATR footage the weapon changing isn't completely done. So I suppose that's something that happens later.
Ummm... When does this game actually come out? I am now salivating from that base video. Wow. This looks amazing.
Every FF has been its own beast (with some base constants (i.e crystals, magic, the various beasts/summons, Cid) for a long ass time.
And that's why it's called fantasy. Yes. I think 99% of the players are not going to get distracted about things like that. It's just the current trend to criticize things that does not matter the slightest.
People like to look pretty things. No one cares if the tank character is wearing bikinis if she looks good. No one cares if the main warrior guy looks like Arnold in Conan. They're the fantastical stereotypes. Guys are big, muscular and dumb, women are either hot and in bikinis or evil and dark in a long black dress with an open cut to show some cleavage and legs.
whoever is in charge of female character designs in this game sure loves cleavage windows
While I'm not asking everyone to dress like a medieval knight, they can at least try to suspend my disbelief.
That's fine.
But I also think that it should be fair on both sides to acknowledge that for all the different things FF mean to different people... everything except the change to a more action-RPG combat system has been part and parcel of Final Fantasy's visual, lore & moment-to-moment gameplay DNA since as far back as FFV or VI.
What concerns me is that this game now looks like it has drawn inspiration from every other popular series...

You mean chocobos?

I don't know if they outright confirmed it, but I think this does.
someone needs to add the phrase
Creative people aren't above criticism and there are things they can change for the better in how they approach their form of art. Revealing outfits on female characters isn't some sacred thing that should be protected by all means and can't be criticized. You can make good looking & even sexy female characters that not only look good but don't feel so out of place & as ridiculous as a car mechanic in mini-shorts & a tiny, cleavage-revealing top. Designs can be fantastical, practical AND good-looking/sexy at the same time! One does not exclude the others.A lot of gamers like good designs like this dragoon lady. A vocal minority will not change things for everyone else, including the large swath of people who clearly do not care either way. You certainly have the right to an opinion but I'm happy most character designers make the designs they feel like in games.
I don't like how much that footage reminds me of MGS.

And it's unfortunate that a lot of people don't care for what I think is a pretty reasonable view on the matter, but I'm clearly on the losing end here, so more power to the masses, I guess.![]()
