I'm excited for the story and all, but am I the only one who is really excited for the endgame? Imagine the optional bosses and dungeons in this massive game, those 10,000,000 HP bosses are gonna be fun :)

Now all Gladiolus has to yell during this attack is "Jose Canseco!" and it will be the best attack ever.

Just so you guys are aware, the footage is most likely PC footage. They said it in the ATR that they're building everything on PC and they're still transferring stuff to consoles and that they're have some issues even.

The video looks massively better, what's the deal with Square screenshots making games look bad?

The shadow and lighting quality is completely different though.

Jesus christ, that difference in shadows is ridiculous. WTF square?

If you look at the UI of the PR screenshot, you can see it's been taken from one of the August-September test branch builds shown in the ATR. I'd guess that the Niflheim footage is from a very recent master build.

According to Tabata they have a new fancy shadow system that they just debuted in this battle trailer.

Why didn't they just wait till it was ready to make screenshots to release to the press? That's the real question!

My guess:
Marketing department and development team have different priorities. The marketing team is all like "we need something now for this month's magazines" and the dev team is all like "...but we're not ready" rinse repeat and that's been the story of their marketing efforts in 2015 up until now and possibly until March.

Not sure if you are aware, but that is the way all games are built...

Yeah, I can totally understand why it'd be insane for them to do so, and that (I guess) they couldn't wait, but could you imagine if something that looked like this was our first peek at the game post-reboot?

Holy. Shit. That is awesome. I'm a huge fan of the old. I like turn-based, but holy shit. That's beautiful. Could we actually get a good FF for once? FFXIV is a beast, but a single player FF.

Consider me hyped!

I could respect that, but he or she should have made that clear instead of making a vague comment and then abandoning the thread.

To be fair people in this thread are being very dismissive and aggressive toward people expressing trepidation/dislike in response to the footage. I mean, yes other FFs had stealth of a sort too, but that doesn't mean someone has to automatically like the type of stealth gameplay presented here -- I sure don't.

In general I was very disappointed in this footage, and yes, it's mainly because it's not turn-based. I've been keeping an open mind until now and hoping other elements of the gameplay might still excite me, but nothing in this sequence did that for me unfortunately. The visuals and music are fantastic, but I really don't want open-world base incursion missions with action combat in a Final Fantasy game.

Luckily there's Project Setsuna coming out soon for us ATB fans -- I really hope that's good.

you guys complaining about all the empty space, i want you to take all the time you need to imagine exactly how you would translate the spectacle of jrpg fights featuring varied enemy sizes into a 3d battle system which takes place in the game's open world as opposed to 'battle screen' instances, without providing relatively large and open battle spaces

one thing i love about the way this game animates is that for all its flair and style it's really reigned in and not too hectic at all. seems like it'll be pretty easy to read and follow the actions of your characters and your enemies alike.

If I'm honest, I think the UI is ugly as hell. They took all the unique elements and made it look like a generic sci-fi UI. Where are the diamonds? The glass background? We have two separate meters in two separate colours that seem to be there constantly. We have a mixture of sharp rectangles and perfect circles and I can't believe they ditched the black, white and blue colour scheme that fit the game so well for blue and orange.

I mean, I know I'm nitpicking like hell and it's not going to affect my enjoyment too much, but I can't help feeling a little down about it. Outside of that, the game looks fantastic!

She looks so stupid.

I disagree, I think she looks like a badass. I think Cindy looks pretty good too in a different way.

It's fine that you don't like some character designs but a lot of us do and most of the rest are probably indifferent to them. The loudest voices shouldn't drown out the majority and discourage interesting new FF female character designs.

UI TBA? I think it looked like a placeholder more than a finished thing.

No shit but then some will cry downgrade and all that jazz when they show actual PS4 footage.

Yeah... I'm preparing myself for it aswell. At some point push will come to shove. They have to release the game and they can't afford to optimize any longer. I just hope it's not as big of a downgrade as the October footage>Duscae one. For once I feel like this footage actually matches, and in some respects surpasses the 2014 builds. It would be a shame to fall from there after he said way back in TGS 2014 "this represents about 70-80% of the visual fidelity of the final game".

I hope that, before they cut back that they give the same level of polish that the shadows received to the foliage and open world LODs. I know it's beating a dead horse, but in an open world game, a large majority of the time, most of the pixels on the screen will be devoted to showing things like grass, trees, etc. Logic would dictate you should ensure those aspects look good considering they'll be used so often.

If anything that is the most surprising thing about this video especially compared to the demo and prior trailers.

Well being dismissive of any criticism isn't right either, and I realize for many fans there is a lot to criticize, but I would appreciate it if some people would elaborate on their criticism. I'm going to bed now so I'll catch up on this thread in the morning.

She looks so stupid.

Hence, Nomura.

Here is Nomura's Catwoman.

That's the thing about Nomura from me. I can never disagree on the designs looking stupid. In fact, "that's a stupid ass design" is usually the first thing that goes through my head when I see his designs. It just so happens "but it's pretty awesome" happens to run through right after. Different strokes. I like the design a lot, but it's all kinds of silly.

I feel the same way, fingers crossed. This is the first FF since FF 12 I want to play.

Seriously though, the most impressive thing SE is doing with FFXV and what I can see making the battle system really special is the huge amount of detailed contextual actions. Just from the two videos we got this time and what Tabata said in the ATR, we have:
  • Fire spreading when you cast it on grasslands
  • If fire spreads enough, it'll burn wood objects like the shack nearby
  • Fire will get extinguished quickly when it's raining
  • Your party members and yourself will get burned if you get close to the fire
  • Blizzard will freeze bodies of water so you can walk over them, slow down enemies or freeze them completely
  • Thunder can spread through rain and bodies of water
  • When you parry with a shield, Prompto climbs on the recoiling shield and starts shooting at foes while standing on it
  • When Gladio uses his Hurricane technique, you can see Prompto duck when the blade is close to him
  • Noctis destroys the leg of the Magitek armor and oil gushes out which you can use to your advantage and cause an explosion with Fire
  • Noctis starts rolling on the floor in an attempt to free himself from a crocodile monster's bite
  • Mesmerizes will start running alongside you when you're on Chocobos (chocobo ride and fishing footage)
  • Noctis is holding the teeth of a monster that's on top of him and fighting it off (an UX screenshot I once saw posted here)

Hey no need to steal my posts. :p jk

No I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this. It was always minimalistic but they had some nice elements going on in the UI that maintained a unique look so it weird me out to see them regress in that department. Yes, I really did dig the diamonds that much. And it especially stands out now that they've improved everything else so much. The game's gorgeous, it's only natural to expect the UI to be up to par.

I can only hope they plan on adding that kind of stuff in again now that they're finishing up the UI.

They will! Last they said was that it would be free DLC as they couldn't fit both tracks(and respective CG cutscenes as they do reanimate lips) on one disc.

Holy shit, if they are going to duplicate all the voice files and CGs to support dual-audio, this might be a 100 GB install on the hard drive.

Good thing I've upgraded my PS4's HDD to 1 TB.

Did they really confirm that? I thought they only said that they are looking into it but can't guarantee it yet.

The way combat works for starters it's more like an action game.
The four main characters is a major turnoff to and I feel like the developers are more interested in making cool characters then intresting characters, they feel very one dimensional.
