Its a rock solid 30fps. You may need to check your settings.

Really don't look 30 fps in many places to me. If it is, then they are using some funky ass animations and visual effects

Source on the rock solid 30fps btw? Because the demo had horrible dps as well

People said TW3 combat looked bad but this takes the crown easily, yikes.

This looks about a million times more fun than Witcher 3's combat. More variety in not only the combat options (we have access to many different kinds of weapons that all handle differently, there are all kinds of special moves & combo opportunities, aerial combat, magic, group attacks and taking advantage of the environments), but the enemies shown so far show greater variety & imagination as well. Not to even mention it looks spectacular from a visual POV. Witcher 3's is so dull looking in comparison, and seriously lacks variety in its mechanics & enemies. As long as they don't screw up the feel & responsiveness of the controls, this should be golden on the combat side.

Just my eyes. there are pauses when you hit and get hit, but thats part of the combat not framerate drops.

the problem with BD is that its a handheld game...im still playing it, but FF is the one series that pushed turn based on consoles. It leaving the genre forever would be a major loss

Maybe they'll pull a Type-0 and make it a console game. Might be a good fit for the NX!

World of Final Fantasy.

Damn I keep forgetting that game exists >_<

Who knows when Nomura actually designed her, but it's still 5 years :p

Nomura tends to only design the main cast. She doesn't strike me as a nomura design but she could be.

You ever controlled a turret in a game and though "man this is so fun"? I haven't.
Maybe turrets are not the most exciting game mechanic ever, but they can be ok if they are not too forced on you, optional and don't take too long. Like, Noctis shooting some exploding barrels for 5 seconds, something which is completely optional, hardly warrants a "OH FUCK THIS GAME TO HELL TURRET SECTIONS GAWD DAMN WORST FF EVER" reaction.

She was probably designed by Roberto Ferrari... Based on her... chest.

Looks fine.

Far from hyped. I just want the game to come out already. Tired of media surrounding it. It's been overkill and I'm exhausted.

I'm going to be terribly upset if any of the people moaning about "why isn't Final Fantasy turn-based any more" haven't played Trails in the Sky / Cold Steel.
That series is like the perfect tonic for "people who used to love Final Fantasy but don't any more".

As for this latest demo, it looks fine and is clearly incredibly ambitious... I'm still not convinced Square Enix can deliver engaging combat a la their compatriots at PlatinumGames and From but time will tell. I do prefer their quieter gameplay demos over this one that's clearly geared towards ADD sufferers (i.e. fans of Michael Bay films).

So basically one of us is better at telling framrates than the other. And I'm very confident that I'm right *shrug*

Did you download it? some hiccups could be streaming related. I dont have any way to analyse the footage but it does look very solid to me. Its not running on console anyway so it should be solid.

Nope, just the youtube video. I dunno what I can say really, just has that look that games has whenever they dip frames. it's not for the entirety though

Why do people hate turrets? I don't have much experience with them, so I have no strong feelings about turrets.

It's just one those run-of-the-mill AAA game set pieces or props that's rarely enjoyable for many. Most of time because it's forced on the player in order to advance. Same goes for stealth sections in many non-stealth games. It's there for fluff and mechanically weak or numbing because of it.

Hence the vitriol against both for FFXV. It could turn out good or bad so we'll see.

Well still not sold on the battle system, it always looks like too way button-mashy... I hope they find a good balance between automated play and direct inputs. Also I pray this "nifhleim" base concept is not just like MGSV random camps where you just farm things inside and they look all the same.

Ive played both, but the comparison isnt great. Those are amazing games (well TiTS is, I havent played ToCS yet), but they can never have the production value of a final fantasy. Some people really appreciate that.

Im not bemoaning FFXV for its combat type choice, Im just hoping the future of the series isnt this

This is looking like it could be the first ff game I actually put more than a few minutes into. Really dig the visuals and that transportation technique.

looks pretty good! i haven't totally lost interest in this game but i would've been more excited for it were exclusive. same with kh3 which I have preordered anyway, courtesy of gaf.

I love everything about that trailer, except for the turret sequence. I'm getting some Mass Effect 3 flashbacks, and that's not a good thing. They better not shove those fucking sequences in the middle of a scene that is supposed to be quiet because they think every player is an 8-year old suffering from ADHD.

Fucking Mass Effect 3, man. Shoving one last turret sequence at the end of the game in the middle of the fucking moment the player is having when talking to his or her teammates one last time before the final showdown. Unfuckingforgivable.

You'd be more excited if about 10,000 people didnt play it on the xbox one? (sorry jab at the poor sales of ff type 0 hd and ff13-3)

Okay well thanks SE for completely turning around my skepticism about the combat.

I felt like it was a little stale in the demo and the controls too complicated but this looks so good. Stealth is a completely different ball game now that I can teleport to enemies.

Please release this year, please.

Last game I played with turrets were Uncharted 1, and it wasn't bad. Not super duper fun, but I literally used it for couple of minutes, and move on. Not sure why it warrants that much vitriol.

Nice, but can you explore all of that area in that overworld map? Or is it, in effect, limited to specific areas, like the picture I posted? (Ie, Dragon's Dogma -- huge overworld map, but you were limited to a small section of that. Or the Two Worlds 2 world map -- lots of islands, and one very large one, but you could only explore a couple of the smaller ones.).

Based on the lack of detail (Assuming that it'll be like that in the finished game, and there's no fog.) of the other areas in that overworld map, it looks like it'll work something like the image I posted. As in, you can drive all over the roads in that map, but you can only explore some of the map -- ie, to get from one area to the other (Duscae to another.), you'd need to use the roads, and the only area you can explore (Excluding the linear roads, of course.) in that section of the overworld map is the Duscae region the character is currently in, and to get to another you'd have to follow the linear roads.
It should be more open than that. They've made the point to say that you can get out of the car at any given time and start exploring. Of course there might be some stretches of land that don't necessarily have much else but maybe some enemies to fight against (they probably don't want Insomnia to be a 10 minute drive from Niflheim's capital, so the scale of the world should reflect that at least somewhat believably, but it would be too big of a task to fill all of that with dungeons & more special things to do), but the game also shouldn't have invisible barriers that stop you from moving past knee-high obstacles or anything. If there is something stopping you from exploring something, then it's a cliff that you can't climb or other more natural (or man-made) obstacles.

The only thing limiting exploration in a bigger way should be story-related stuff. The game probably won't let you go from Insomnia to Niflheim's capital right after you get control of the car, but the world will open up more gradually. So the car breaking down once you enter a new region might stop you from advancing further. Or an environmental disaster wipes out a bridge and you'll have to do some story stuff before it's fixed and you can continue. Old Versus XIII pics showed a flood that had left a road underwater and Noctis & Co couldn't advance past that immediately.

Why is there always a mob of people vilifying options in games? Why would anyone want to be a slave to closed and linear gameplay?

Looks alright. Glad that they are finally opening up the media on this game.
I booted up Episode Duscae up a short while ago and climbing up the hill, finding the concealed Chocobo ranch through the woods felt more 'FF' to me than any FF game has in over 16 years.
That crown goes to FF14, which is the most classic FF has been in years.

I was like you wondering when FF would get back to classic status and FF14 slapped me silly with it.

as it started out as a game originally supposed to be a playstation exclusive, yeah, i'd be more interested in it. i know that makes me sound like an asshole but it's not about other platform owners not getting to play it, it's about my platform of choice having added value for having an exclusive game.

As long as you're aware of it. Man, that stupid sounding and nonsense sophistry to boot.
