Street Fighter V Roster Discussion |Thread 2| Deal with it & place your hope for DLC

I'm sure these videos have been posted around this thread already but I feel like they should be in the OT. By far the most well made and informative on Street Fighter V I've found.

I'm surprised that in 16 or so years they still couldn't out a plot going past the events of 3S yet again

I think it was a mixture of being afraid of receiving SF3's level of backlash and reliance on SF2/Alpha characters. My theory is that for a while Capcom thought anything related SF3 was the touch of death, but seeing as we're getting more SF3 characters left-out of SF4 in SFV in terms of DLC and cameos they might be past it.

At least I hope they are.

It wasn't really surprising to me since they need to milk nostalgia and familiarity of the previous rosters to push this game to the masses in hopes of boosting e-sports and tournaments.

In SF6 if you want some sort of logical progression of the story, characters have to age, die or stop fighting. That means new characters have to take their place. They learned from SF3 that majority of the player base do not like change or introduction of so many new characters to the roster. SF3 was called a "new generation" and it did very poorly.

Otherwise SF6 is just going to continue shortly after 3rd strike and still somehow include all these classic characters to appeal to the market.

Hell with the initial roster being as it is, this is Capcom being risky.

They needed 4 to have all the SF2 classics to even have a chance of success. 5 Is now bridging the gap to make some sort of sense of everything and pave the way, storywise, to have the popular classics even after the events of 3, I'm sure.

But a lot of the new characters from SFIII weren't all that great or marketable either, when compared to the cast of SFII.

The east cost hip hop at the character selection screen and the music overall turned me off, personally. There are no memorable Guile like themes for any of the new characters.

The game was just dark and weird, compared to the rest of the series.

Game's not even supposed to be out yet, so servers going offline before release shouldn't be a massive cirtiique... or not?

That is kinda where I am.

No reason to notify if servers coming down or not. They could be doing last minute maintenance preparing for release, etc.

I was just playing Alpha 3 on Fightcade. First of all, I forgot how great non-3rd Strike Street Fighter is. It's still soooo damn good. Second of all, Sodom has to make a comeback!!! It took me a bit to get into his style again but he's fun as hell. Just a weird hybrid grappler/rekka dude--hell, I don't know how to describe him. Tick throw set-ups and real knowledge of his normals/spacing is key and it clicked for me like mid-way through my session. Even so, I forgot his move where he crawls across the floor with his sais after being knocked down.

Free Sodom!!

Dudley, Alex, Makoto, Urien, Ibuki, Sean, Oro, Elena, Yun, Yang, Hugo, Q, Twelve, Necro

If there's not enough material in the 14 choices above then I'd blame it on the marketing ability of the company, not for having lack of source material. How do new shows, games or animes ever catch on?

Your post kinda confirms what I mean when I say they are taking advantage of familiarity and nostalgia to succeed in SF5. Most don't want change and they definitely don't want it so quickly. They want their SF2 with updated graphics and sound (SF4 brought that back). It's as though they are better off keeping the Ryu/Bison, Guile/Nash and Akuma thing going forever and just creating a new fighting game franchise in order to introduce a new roster (jk that's not happening). Who knows maybe I'm wrong and in 5 years they will tie everything together nicely into 3S and people will be prepped for a new roster in SF6.

Really though I want Season 2 to introduce all new franchise characters (not happening).

This is all based on your own opinion.

They used Dudley, Makoto, Ibuki, Hugo, and Elena to market SF4/SFxT at various points.

They are literally using Alex, Ibuki, and Urien to market SF5 as we speak.

There is nothing intrinsically wrong with the SF3 characters, and Capcom knows it.

I know people who believe ibuki, Mak and Dudley are new characters introduced in 4 lol I had to educate them on the subject.

Sodom almost did make it to the roster, so I wouldn't be surprised if he makes it back as DLC down the line.

Pfft.

As I have two hours to decide on a cheap one, I've got to ask again:

Has any one tried the PS3 MadCatz SFIV FightPad on SFV and if so, does it work?

why is it so funny to me to hear combofiend laugh his ass off while playing against mike ross, and of course mike's playful salt (real salt? there can be real salt among friends lol). Dudes are legit having a good time and it shows (werent they room mates at some point too?)

lol their laughing and constant giggling really annoys some people but i can't help but enjoy how much fun they're having. you know there's real friendship/rivalry salt happening fa sho. these boys made it.

If it's USB it should work

It's not, which is the problem. It's the wireless-dongle one. I know they work okay on a PC as well as PS3, but need that confirmation it works before I get a new one for my PS4.

Normally, I wouldn't be so bothered but it's sealed and at a silly-low price.

is the beta even still running? got 3 beta keys from buying it on steam >_>

Nah, there is some really crappy design in that list there.
