Waiting on your review. I'm hearing some major mixed results with that player. From sound issues to issues with WCG + HDR. Though I'm suspecting its something to do with their receivers or using on 18gbs Hdmi cables.
Pretty nice changes for the oleds that MrJames posted, hardly worth the upgrade for me though as I got a basically flawless EF9500. The 77" is too much to justify. I'll probably wait it out another year or so before I swap. Though that can change on a whim with me lol.
Yeah those are some nice changes on the 2016's but going to hold off til next year before getting something to replace the EF.
I'm still doing some testing and will be reviewing movies upscaled on the Oppo, Samsung, and then 4K, but also lightspace, wow, avs709, and tracking with a HDR window pattern clip.
So far though I am checking what all the settings actually do and how they interact with the display.
A few things off hand though, is it is much faster than the Oppo. I posted some times on AVS. I have teh exact times on a note pad at home for oppo and samsung. Here is just a quick summary
From complete power off stand by mode, to menu. it takes approx 9.7 seconds. Where the Oppo 103D is twice that. From disc load to the first menu in this case the Avengers Age of Ultron, and the first menu being where you select the language it is approx 14.8 seconds, about 6 seconds less than the Oppo. From the minute you hit play movie from the main menu, to the piracy screen it is 3 seconds, and 13.7 seconds to the movie starting.
For upscaling right now I'm giving the edge to the Samsung. It produces a much cleaner looking picture. I'm going to verify this with some test patterns tonight though.
The remote sucks on this At first it didn't seem so bad, but it is just too small and feels cheap. I already added it to my harmony elite so I won't be using it anyways.
The disc drive doesn't sound right when ejecting and closing. It is not smooth or quite. It sounds rickety. I'm almost considering exchanging it to see if there is a problem with this one, it is that loud.
The start up and spinning you can hear and is louder than the Oppo.
The build quality just doesn't feel premium. I only paid 230 for it but even though it doesn't have the same solid, premium build quality the Oppo has which is disappointing for something that cost $400.
The menus are snappy though the GUI is so bad.
Overall it will come down to performance, but I'm pretty sure once the Oppo releases I'll get rid of this one and go with that.
As for clarity, and detail. wow. UHD blu rays are the real deal. The detail is so clean.
I'm checking right now what settings are available in ISF modes when HDR is on. Once I gather all my info I'll post it on AVS and here.
