Firewatch |OT| With Me

I kinda just wanted something of a headscratcher and ponder the what ifs more than adding more length. I think this could've ended on a more ambiguous note than just a flat end.

Still, I enjoyed this game and I hope the positives and flaws make Campo Santo strong enough to tackle it towards their next game.

Just finished it up after playing three hours straight (had put in about forty minutes the other day already). That was definitely one hell of a memorable experience. Really enjoyed just about every moment of it.

Finished Firewatch.
It was really sort, but I really liked the story and the ending. It was humane, no bullshit, no supernatural crap, just about flawed humans.

The design and the graphic style used was fantastic.

And finished. Ending is
pretty underwhelming, I think, but the game itself was great. The dialogues are fantastic, and that flirt talk over the radio when things start off is scary real if you ever had a weird we-dont-really-know-each-other relationship that got to that point lol. At least for me it hit pretty well. Gotta let it sink in now and read this thread a bit.

Finished the game. Took me about 2.5h.

Fantastic dialog. One of the few adult oriented games out there.

Thats it.

I cant fathom why this has so many posts and Unravel doesnt...

6/10

Yeah. In hindsight I would have put the $20 towards Unravel and bought this on a Steam sale.

Great experience, enthralling story with moments that got me to reflect in deep ways.
Not keen on the Pixar aesthetic mixed in with dirty language. Also: No wildlife in a forest? :(

The game decided to autosave when I was inside a chunk of loading terrain... And now I can't get out!

Is there a no-clip cheat or a some warp I can do? Or a way to restart the section I'm currently on?

Really don't feel like restart from the beginning, especially since it feels like this could easily happen again :P

Yeah now that you mention it it does seem strange there wasn't really any wildlife around. Especially considering a deer is shown in the opening scenes.

It's very clear where their budget went and where it didn't. I think that's my only complaint about the experience overall. It's so well put together and some elements are very polished, but others feel very cheap or that corners were cut. I'm sure they just didn't have the resources, but when it does stand out, it kind of takes me out of the experience a bit.

I'd love to see what they could produce with more time and money.

Who do you think is starting all the forest fires?

It was probably the turtle. I shouldn't have left him alone with the cooking supplies.

How'd you do it so quickly? Took me two three hour sittings.

People play very at different "speeds", from the looks of it. It took me a little less than 4 hours, and I spent a lot of time looking at stuff, and never ran anywhere except during the very last trip (
during the evacuation
).

is this a bug, or do I really need to take an other path?

day 2:
the line is cut and I just found the backpack with the camera and some ropes.

http://i.imgur.com/Q4e7Hbb.png
went down there with the ropes.
then I saw he fire and she tells me to go find it. but I can't go to the box.I just used the rope to get down there, but I can't go anywhere. is that right?
need to take the rope back up again and look somewhere else?

I got stuck here too. Just go down that first ledge and then turn around and there will be something to hook another rope on to.

I just finished it in one sitting, 2:30 as well. Was engrossed the entire time but wish was longer. Don't fell like I rushed it but kinda wish didn't force end of days on you so u could look around more.

Just finished the game. Enjoyed it thoroughly. What a beautiful and bittersweet short experience.

Great artistic design, everything is just pleasant to look at.
As everyone says, top-notch script ant voice acting. Sometimes it even felt strange seeing such a great and natural flowing performance in a video game.
The menus and GUI - super well done. No splash screens, no 'hints' while loading, everything is just clean, pure UI. And both menu and the game itself loads in a couple of seconds.

Minor things I disliked:
Controls: the controller scheme is somewhat strange, I always ended up hitting the wrong buttons. It's impossible to open/close the map while moving. Climbing the rocks wasn't always smooth.
The ending didn't quite deliver it's promises, but I still thing it was a really good one and was fitting to the whole game.

Would rate 8-9.

edit: wonder what happened to dialogue and stuff form the reveal trailer, was it just for the setting of the mood or was it cut?

Most of that dialogue was written just for the trailer, to set the tone, and was some of the first dialogue we recorded, which is why their personalities aren't 100% locked in. That said I think most of the lines other than "the greenwood fire" is actually in the game, in different contexts, and with different reads.

On chapter 78, it feels close to the end.

I love the dialogue, but it is a touch vulgar, also by the end I found Delilah a touch annoying... Accounting for these nits and the poor frame rate (PS4), it is a refreshing gaming experience.

off to the Witness next!!!

I think the game is masterful when it comes to creating an atmosphere, building up a mystery and confusing the player with expectations. Firewatch also had a very strong sense of location and I really enjoyed the unique setting. Playing felt like reading a good book where you just had to turn to next page and find out what's going on. I really loved the first half of the game but unfortunately not all the parts worked as well for me and some solutions left me a bit disappointed and wanting for more. Still as a whole I enjoyed my time with the game and though it was a memorable experience despite the technical problems and the fact that it didn't quite meet all of my expectations.

I'd rate Firewatch around 8.0

How'd you do it so quickly? Took me two three hour sittings.

I didnt plan on doing it this fast. I bought the game, got 3 trophies, out of 5, and stopped. The next day, played another hour and finished it. I used sprint a lot, but also took a bunch of photos with my camera. Each one was carefully framed, composition and all that. :)

Kinda dissapointed at the price tag, but the dynamic theme it came with is FANTASTIC!

This game is a great example of why I make sure to check NeoGAF every day. I saw a trailer and 17 minute gameplay video of the game on here a few weeks ago. And, based on the comments in the OT thread, I decided to try it on PS4.

I spent around 8 hours with it yesterday and today, and really enjoyed the game as I played through it to the end. The story and the characters were really well done. The natural dialogue between Henry and Delilah is really immersive.

My favorite part about the dialogue is that for most of the most important dialogue, you had real choices on what you wanted to say back to Delilah - in addition to the scripted parts that moved the story and gameplay along. I really liked how they used the conversations with Delilah to keep you on track during the various mission tasks.

I felt a strong connection to the forest and its various locations as well. I'm not a big fan of first person games, but the controls in this game (I played on PS4) were functional/accessible which made it enjoyable and interesting to explore the game world.

Great job by the developers!

Played the epilogueprologue a few days ago and then beat it yesterday in one sitting.

Can I check how long it took me exactly?
Steam is saying 4 hours..

Felt a little bit short. 20 bucks is maybe a little bit to much.
But it was fun.
Not a fan of the ending though.

Oh and the climbing on top of obstacles and back down was pretty annoying and unnecessary most of the time imo.

I wonder whether differences between review scores (or opinions) can also partially be explained by whether someone has been married for a number of years or not.

Not saying you don't get it if you're not, or that when you are, you are more inclined to handwave an unfulfilling story. But it appears to me that the triangle Henry Julia Delilah is a more compelling role playing experience if you can stop and reflect it to your own situation. Whereas a younger me would just pick an alignment and roll with it.

I can imagine perhaps more so than reviewers being in cahoots with the developer, they might also trend a bit older for the bigger sites.

Played this at my bro's place and I love it. I wish we had more games like these. It doesnt seem to have any combat and that's absolutely fine. In fact it's probably better that it doesn't have any combat.

Anyway, how far are we? :

we found the body of that person in the cave. I forgot the name of him, but when the Henry tells it o Delilah, she's clearly shocked. Then when the next day happens, aircraft are flying around, lots of dust around the tower and we need to find another item with that tracker thing. We quit here. How far along are we?

I shelved this about an hour in for Unravel, I'm really hoping the PS4 gets some improvements from a patch soon before I resume.

I enjoyed the story and encountered only 1 annoying hiccup (lost an hour of progress towards the very end of the game due to turning off auto-save / screen froze).

Overall good game but I could NOT recommend it for $20. I was able to grab it for 7 and some change as I had some left over Sony Rewards credit. For that price I was very satisified with the purchase.

Anything over $15 is probably a bit much. (Although I would have paid $20 regardless)

Any word on a fix for the (late game spoilers)
Day 78
glitch?

My objective won't update from
Pack Your Belongings
and I'm unable to
pack the typewriter as it's glitched in the floor
. Heading north to
the cable car only prompts one line of blunt dialogue from D
and I'm unable to progress.

Was really hoping to finish tonight :( I'm on PS4 btw.

Completed this in one sitting, not sure where the performance issues are coming from. Always got above 60 fps on a 980 Ti at 3440x1440.
