Movie was decent. Not as bad as ppl have said. The dream sequences were a bit much however
The theater was a third full for matinee

it certainly will be. BvS was heavily frontloaded off of goodwill from the nolan films. Having it's predecessor be a bomb guarantees that it won't have nearly the opening weekend BvS had.
Arent they planning like multiple justice league movies though? I think you can get away with a tonal shift from BvS to Justice League, but it would be very odd to switch tones in the middle of a Justice league series.
Yeah but like you said it establishes 3 other franchises. It's massively important. I can't see a board of shareholders willing to risk putting Snyder in control again. The DC universe is supposed to be a huge tent pole for them.
This is impossible but their best case scenario is bringing Nolan back as director and letting Snyder help with the action. They can keep the darker tone and get a competent story going and retain the Snyder for the only thing he is good at.
He originally said 18-19M Friday yesterday evening. We'll see if things change.
$21M would probably mean ~$50-51M for the weekend.
I mean, you are right and I agree, but butts will still be put in seats... to some degree at least. To me, if they don't get rid of him right away it says: either WB is willing to bite that expensive bullet, or are still hopeful they can steer the ship in these 18 months. Either way it is not a good look, but neither is telling the world: hey, guess what, JL is off now.
I'm thinking this still ends below $50m. If we use $20.5 for today, it takes a 30% Sunday drop to get over $50m for the weekend. Deadpool dropped 35% on the second Sat ->Sun, F7 dropped 40%.
Wow Thor Dark World gets a lot of undeserved hate. It's a good movie. Not Winter Soldier or GOTG tier obviously but damn. It's at least better than all 3 Iron Man films, Incredible Hulk and the amazingly dull Ant-Man.
Synder's chosen the production team and the cast. The script was written mostly with his input. All the pre-production work has been done by Synder and co. Shooting begins on the 11th.
A delay of the film and finding a new director to replace him, a director that will probably want rewrites and the ability to change the production team? Costly.
Warner Bros is essentially backed into a corner here. Do they leave Snyder on, knowing that poor word of mouth here will carry on into Justice League? Or do they incur significant cost trying to get rid of him?

But like I said he has already let them down twice and this time with word of mouth so bad it is poisoning the brand. MoS wasn't like that. This was supposed to jumpstart 6+ years of movies and a tremendous amount of money. Delaying and doing it right seems like the only possible move they have at this point.

Nolan won't do it. He's big enough to write his own ticket on original films at this point.
Your immediate, logical choices are:
Ben Affleck (Already Batman, solid writer and director)
James Wan (Aquaman's director, did Furious 7)
George Miller (currently a producer on the film, hot off Fury Road, and was previously knee-deep in his own Justice League film)
I was thinking about what they'd put out as an estimate.
A 35% Sunday drop on $21M would give them $50M even.
If the film ends up doing $19M today, then they wouldn't be able to bullshit over $50M.
yep. Momoa is aquaman. That dude absolutely CANNOT carry a movie by himself.
In fairness, not many superhero actors can. They need to do what Thor 1 did and pad out the cast with stronger talents and hope the villain, thinking Orm or Black Manta, is as much a draw.

If shooting was months away, he'd probably be gone. Less than two weeks? Tough situation.

BvS being received the way it has means they will either have to
1.) Fire Snyder and massively retool
or
2.) Drastically reduce the anticipated budget for JL. as someone else said, shooting begins on the 11th.

personally I think Nolan is overrated.
Begins was good but not great.
Dark Knight got the benefit from a breakout performance from ledger, as well as the unfortunate timing of his death.
Rises was by FAR the weakest of the three, but got to coast on the goodwill of TDK and the strength of the batman brand.

He is still a very good director, see Inception. But I think he lost interest in comic book movies.
Nolan wants to take the Spielberg, Zemeckis kind of career path, not to be pigeon holed as an action director.
I would love for Ruffalo to get a crack at a solo hulk movie.

I think him speaking Dothraki helped quite a bit. It sounded badass and gave his performance more gravitas.
Maybe have the whole movie in Atlantian? lol
I just rewatched them all about a month ago and man I still think they are amazing. I think Ledger was legendary in TDK but everything else was so well done too. Bale is perfect. Harvey Dent is tragic. Even the action is great which is something Nolan really doesn't understand. TDKR is definitely the weakest but I still love the charachters and overall story arc. That moment of Bruce climbing out of the tomb with the Rise chant....goosebumps. The betrayal at the end was so perfectly executed as well as the backstory and her loyalty to Bane.Yeah for me Nolan is definitely not overrated. He elevated superheroes to a place they might never go again.
That would be nice. But Im excited new characters like Black Panther, Dr Strange and Captain Marvel are getting a shot.
That's probably why Thor takes off his shirt in every movie.
Bale has a shit voice but is excellent as Bruce.
The only reason he is overshadowed in TDK is because just how good eckhart and Ledger were
Hell even Oldmans Gordon got some good stuff in that one
Oldmans Gordon and having shitty female characters is where the Michael Mann comparisons start and end.
Man, Dark Knight had a good hold that second week.Superhero films with second weekends over $50M (figures rounded to the nearest $1M):
Avengers - $103M
Avengers Age of Ultron - $78M
The Dark Knight - $75M
Iron Man 3 - $73M
Spider-Man - $71M
The Dark Knight Rises - $62M
Spider-Man 3 - $58M
Deadpool - $56M
Iron Man 2 - $52M
Iron Man - $51M
That's also happens to be the list of Superhero films that opened to over $100M, minus X-Men the Last Stand, Man of Steel, and probably BvS.
Batman v Superman had the 4th largest comic opening of all time. It most likely won't make the top 10 second weekends for comic films
Thor gets a lot of hate around here, but I think they're targeting women more than the other Marvel films. My wife and her friends like the Thor movies more than the other Marvel movies. From what I can tell it's because Hemsworth is hot, they like the relationship between Thor and Jane, and because Hemsworth is hot. That's probably why Thor takes off his shirt in every movie.
Personally, I like the Thor movies. They're the worst of the MCU movies but they're not bad.

What is up with the dude on the right?!? Man I am never gonna be able to unsee that now.
I heard paramount still holds distribution rights to Hulk which is why it won't happen.

people laughed hen I said Civil War will make more money than BvS
We agree about most things besides Cass Cain but I disagree,Gustin would look weird with the movie JLA, like someone brought their kid to work.
No lol? Snyder has been making this movie his entire life.I'm starting to parrot myself here, but shouldn't we wait till Snyder's Ultimate Cut of the film before we casually throw him under the bus?
I really think losing him would be a mistake, especially with the potential visuals Snyder could give us with these characters. The Batman warehouse scene and titular fight were the best battle sequences in a comic film since Raimi's Spidey/Goblin fight.
You looked at the score, you spoiled yourself, and you expected nothing? No, you went in with a lot of negative preconceived notions, expected a shit movie, and that's what you got.
