Enter The Gungeon |OT| Praise the gun

Yea, but you can also find them by shooting at walls with guns that have finite ammo (so not starter weapons) to see if it starts breaking. Beyond that, I still don't know if there is a way to figure out where a secret room will be or if they even spawn outside the first floor.

I usually find a few every run solely by checking the walls in chest rooms & and the northern wall in shops where sometimes extra merchants hang out. Those are definitely not the only places a secret room can spawn in though.
It's cool when you find one but honestly, I'm not totally convinced they're actually worth a blank. You might get a key or armor plus an extra blank but often times you just get a heart you don't need or a locked brown/blue/green chest you might not have keys for. If you're low on blanks & haven't fought the floor's boss yet, it's a gamble. Coming from Isaac it's easy to be fixated on secret rooms but a single blank in Gungeon seems much more valuable than a single and easy to replenish bomb in Isaac.

Hot damn. Shotgun full of love is amazing. One or two shots most enemies and charms in a wide spread so the enemies fight themselves. Better than most shotguns and much better than other charm guns. And I can't believe how much the glacier hard counters the wall. He couldn't even spit fire and most of his shots got destroyed so I just ducked and weaved a little in the middle of the screen. It basically makes him the same level as a floor one or two boss.

Of course, getting 3 sets of golden armor in one run helps too. Lol

And for the secret room conversation, don't look for them before the boss. After the boss, if you have a couple blanks left over, then look for them. You'll get two refilled on the next floor.

Is there a way to infer that a secret room exists based on the level structure? In Binding of Isaac, it's really easy to figure out where secret rooms will be based on the map layout.

Just got this game. Loving it so far. Just wondering. How do people get more hearts? Is it an item bought in the shop? So essentially you always start from scratch? Almost got to level 3 on my first go. Haven't gotten close since.

Combining bullet hell shooter and roguelike was a genius move!

You get a heart if you kill a boss without getting hit. You can also buy/find pouches. Which give you more. Its all random. The only sure fire way is beating a boss without taking dmg.

I can't believe how quickly this thread died and how few people were in here to begin with. This is my GOTY unless NMS really blows me away.

where this ends up on my GOTY list will probably depend on if I can overcome the hurdle of actually beating the game.

Still really enjoying it 18 hours in, but usually end up with sub-par guns by Chamber 4, and I've only made it to Chamber 5 once.

this game is so good, i always end up playing "just one more run" all the time.

didn't really like roguelikes before i stumbled upon this, might be one of the best purchases i've made this year.

I thought the Dragun was pretty easy on the second phase (wtf is happening first phase), so if you survive the first 75% it's pretty easy get the pattern. Pretty sure I only survived the first phase because I had 7 heartcontainers and 3 armor before coming to the 4th floor boss.
only been to the 4th and 5th floor two times, so I got pretty lucky with my drops

althought I'm not sure it might be my goty, need to see how Uncharted 4 and FFXV turns out first. game is dope as fuck

Really is a shame that the thread is so slow now. I blame it partially on the Ps4 being so slow to get the patches. Because of that, I've mostly moved into dark souls 3 at this point.

I'll be streaming some Co-op runs today on twitch.tv/keits

This morning in my 'warm up' run I made it to Hunter's past for the first time and botched it. So sad :(

Just lost a great run because I somehow activated
Lord of the Jammed. He's supposed to appear when you have 10 curses but I thought I only had 4. Clearly there are things that give you a lot more than one curse at a time. The culprit was probably the Sixth Chamber item, maybe it gives 6 curses.

Not a shame at all. Look at this thread in context

The main Nuclear Throne thread only reached 7 pages. The original Binding of Isaac thread reached 31 pages in 3 years. and Afterbirth is at 34 pages. Rebirth must have had an insane amount of hype because it blew through 100 pages in a month. FTL is at 47 pages. Spelunky OT is 24 pages, and the more popular Spelunky thread is 63

So 55 pages less than a month after release is very impressive

True, but it has slowed down significantly in the last week or so. Guess that's normal for a release of this sort.

Great game, been playing the crap out of it and will continue to do that once the PS4 version gets a patch or two.

You forgot Salt & Sanctuary thread that is about 50 pages AND was only released on PS4 so far. That and Gungeon are my 2 GOTY right now, both amazing games.

I suppose but really all those game's threads mentioned should've been bigger, Gungeon included.

Either way it's literally the only game I've played since it launched.

Yep same.

The Polaris pistol you get for unlocking the 4th floor shortcut is fantastic. Just melted that annoying tanks life bar. It gets stronger the more kills you get with it until you get hit. It carried me from chamber 3 to killing the past on its own. Almost got the 5th floor master round but got hit just before phase 2 where I never get hit. Was gutted but nm lol. One more bullet with a cape away from unlocking the bullet character.

Unlocked the skeleton key on the same run too for stealing 10 things. Can't get enough of this game. Its just so good.

Me: Alright, time for the 3rd phase of the
Lich
fight. Plenty of health, doing good damage, nothing can possibli go wrong.

Game:

Oh well, who wants to actually beat the game anyways :(

Got to use Duct Tape for the first time today and that thing has some amaaaaazing possibilities. I combined my Sling with a Dungeon Eagle and had a boss killer like no other. Breezed through and finally got to clear the Marine's past.

That feeling of going back tot he game after not playing it regularly for about a week 1/2 and getting hit by the first enemy bullet. :((((

Aww, had another great run with lots of health going into chamber 6 and then I get stuck forever on Generating. The game really needs a Resume function like Isaac.

Yeah, duct tape is pretty incredible as long as you use it correctly. First time I got it, I screwed up and was left with a 25-capacity grenade launcher that shot like the mutation gun. Some help that was. Fortunately the next time I did it right and ended up with 100-capacity bow that shot black holes.

Same thing happened to me last week. Such a kick to the nuts to have that happen during a strong run.

Unlocked the past of the Marine and Pilot tonight. Almost did a flawless on the Pilot, but I doubt that does anything anyways. Was a cool fight and I'm looking forward to Convict and Hunter's
bosses
.

I just found out that when you leave an item behind and the rat tries to steal it, if you bait and shoot him twice it won't try to steal that item again. Really useful when trying to save ammo.

Ugh, hate hearing about these crashes, especially during great runs. Have the crashes been equal on PC and PS4? I have the game on Steam but haven't really tracked the patching process on either. (I don't think I ever get far enough in game for it to crash ...)

Edit: Forgot to add that I too would love the resume function. I've had to end some of my more promising runs due to real life stuff coming up. The resume function seems like such a natural for Gungeon, I hope the devs add it.

I'm enjoying EtG a lot more than I thought I would. I played a bit of Binding of Issac but it just didn't have the same draw that EtG is having for me now. Unfortunately finals are bearing down on me and I haven't had as much time to play as I would like before Overwatch comes out.

Quick question- As the Huntress does Junior II get items on every room clear? I only notice when a chest pops out of nowhere, but I'm not even sure if that's his doing.

Chests and other items popping at room clear are based on your coolness stat. It goes up based on how well you do (not getting hit) as well as how long since your last reward. The dog will dig up items too but you can see him physically doing that when he does.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the rat will come back and try to steal the item again as you get further away from the room. And I think it might be sped up if you use a teleporter. Shooting at him appears to only temporarily save your drops.

Not every room clear, but I've noticed that the dog will give the Hunter an extra 1-2 drops per floor. It's not much but it adds up over the course of a run. The random chests upon clearing rooms isn't specific to the dog, that can randomly happen with any character.

Can't comment on the PS4 version, but in my own personal experience, outside of that crash yesterday and one previous infinite "Generating..." screen, it's been nothing but smooth sailing over the 75 hours I've played. Overall, I've been very impressed by how stable the game has been on the PC.

Thankfully I was able to avenge my crash yesterday with a
Lich
victory today. The hero of the run? Iron Coin. I found one on the 1st or 2nd floor, then found another on the 4th or 5th floor. I figured I'd drop one and pick up the other, but instead it combined to give me six uses. Saved them all for the 6th floor.

Still loving this but still have no clue as to what I'm supposed to do in certain areas.

Mainly I don't know what to do in those big alter rooms, where it says the alter is empty.

Yeah, those rooms and the big empty rooms with the pit of spikes covering half the room(Not the one with mine carts) are a mystery to me still~

Finally managed my first clear. M1, windup gun with bouncy and shadow bullets were my workhorses, owl was my only other notable aid. Managed to deliver the arcane gunpowder in the same run (along with the obsidian shell casing).

Someone mentioned shooting the rat to stop them from taking items, but they'll come back and take them anyways after a while :(

Oops, sorry I wasn't clear enough. After you shoot him and he leaves the first time, make him appear again for the same item and shoot him again(I usually do it by teleporting away and coming back almost immediately). He won't come back for that item again. I tried that strategy for 5 or so items in my last run and it worked every single time.

Oooh gonna try this.

Without spoiling much: Try bringing a liquid-based weapon to this room if you have one.

To spoil it:
If you spray the pit with water/poison/etc., you'll discover a hidden pathway to the other side. You can also fly across with wax wings or the jet pack.

Mainly I don't know what to do in those big alter rooms, where it says the alter is empty.

Without spoiling much: The altar on the 2nd floor requires you to gain access to a secret on the 1st floor.

To spoil it:
Extinguish the fireplace on the first floor (need liquid-based weapon) and flip the switch inside. This unlocks a secret room with a grate that requires two keys to open. There's more to it than this, but this will get you started on the hidden side-quest.

So what do i do with that little green sewer dude who shows up at the item shop on occasion?
Drop things on the grate to sell them.

And just to add to this, you can drop some passive items by going into your map, clicking on the item at the bottom of the screen, and then selecting drop in the upper-left of the screen.

That's pretty interesting. Did you try teleporting across the map after scaring him away the 2nd time just to see if he was done with that item for good? Like you said earlier, being able to leave behind ammo drops without worry would make things a whole lot easier in the late game.

Gunther:Gungeon::Mom's Knife:Rebirth

Holy crap, that gun is as close as you can get to an instant "won run" in this game.

So every time you skip to floor 3 or lower you get to choose from the same 3 guns? That seems kind of lame :(

If you use a shortcut to floor X, you keep receiving the same selection of guns until you defeat the floor X boss. After that you'll get a different selection.

Thanks, a different selection every time or just a different permanent selection?

It gets mixed up each time you defeat the boss using a shortcut. Also, the selection will differ for each shortcut. So for instance, if you use the shortcut to the 3rd floor and die, then use the shortcut to the 4th floor, the gun selection will be different.
