So, Xmen without Vaughn is still shit.
The frequency of this sentiment perplexes me. I enjoyed First Class a lot but I actually ended up liking it less every time I see it.

That goes for all X-men films actually but I find DoFP the most watchable

I watched First Class for a few bucks at a matinee expecting a lameass show, since I was just killing time before an appointment. I liked it. Haven't watched it again since, don't really have any urge to, but it was kinda fun?

If bland direction, score, and bad dialogue is your idea of quality, sure.

"AT LEAST THEY WORE YELLOW!"

What's really frustrating is that it took some one like Vaughn to finally get Xmen right, and then Bryan Singer comes along and slowly reverts it back into the terribleness that he created.

DofP had Vaughn on as prod at least and it was half way decent with a lot of shitty Singerisms (like picking up a stadium and putting back down immediately ), but once he was gone, well, here we go - Apocalypse...

Seeing Colossus in Deadpool really drove home how much Bryan Singer doesn't get Xmen at all.

Looking forward to Kingsman 2...

How the hell did this happen after DoFP was so amazing?

It was average. It never reached the highs in FC. Not even a single, easy lingerie shot.

No, DoFP is one of the best reviewed superhero films ever. This is not getting the same kind of reception. Not even close

So will this be the final chapter of this sage for now?

I thought DOFP was 10/10

Even my GF said that it looks stupid, and didn't want to see it. She has seen all the others with me and liked them all.

X-men films utterly fail in being ensemble films, and how many chances have they had to perfect them and develop more then 4 characters in a cast of many more, a good chunk of whom appear in multiple films.

Avengers holds up and AoU>>DoFP

Days of Future Past and X2 are better than every MCU film.

So will this be the final chapter.

Naw. Kinberg's talking about this team moving into the '90s (basically riffing off the animated series finally) and there's gonna be a New Mutants that stays in the '80s.

Plus we got X-Force probably, another Deadpool sequel, Old Man Logan...

This series isn't going anywhere for awhile.

Wonder what the plan for X-Force is. Presumably Deadpool is in, but does it replace a hypothetical Deadpool 3?

Wait, the hell happened to Gambit? Did they come to their senses?

First Class is about half of a great movie. The score is excellent. Erik's revenge mission in the first act was fantastic. Anything with Erik and Charles interacting was great too.

But then there's like... the cringiest supporting cast of teenage superheroes of any X-Men film with some of the worst dialogue and a complete waste of Emma Frost.

It's a mid-tier X-Men movie. Singer made two better movies.

Havok and Banshee should have been wrecking shit.

The script treated them like a bunch of joke characters.

They certainly made me laugh... uncomfortably due to the awkwardness.

I don't like First Class as much as I did when I first saw it. After Last Stand and Origins, it probably looked a little better than it really was. Even if the kids were awful, the rest was still pretty solid, and of course McAvoy and Fassbender elevated it a notch or two by themselves.

DOFP is one my favorite comic book movies. X-2 is fairly great, and I still think the first holds up well enough all things considered.

I can't find any redeeming qualities at all for Last Stand or Origins.

Hopefully I'll find some entertainment in Apocalypse even if it's a miss.

The russian scene in that movie looked worse than a Red Alert cinematic lol.

58% on RT, that's great since it started like on 43%, if I'm not wrong. I'll watch it next week, can't wait to see it!
This just-above-water score is good enough for me since I wanna see classic Cyclops v Storm, but I cannot get over Mystique Everdeen as inspiring X-Leader.

Is it gonna reach 60%? At that percentage the icon changes from a splat to a tomato.

This is important.

Yep, me too, I want to see the new cast and even though i don't despise Jennifer Lawrence, i don't like her Mystique too much.

Critics Consensus changed: Overloaded action and a cliched villain take the focus away from otherwise strong performers and resonant themes, making X-Men: Apocalypse a middling chapter of the venerable superhero franchise.

59%...might be fresh soon as long as it doesn't get more bad reviews in a row.

Apocalypse's miscalculations start with casting charismatic, versatile actor Oscar Isaac as En Sabah Nur, then writing his character as a one-note heavy that a robot could play. The slathered-on makeup, facial prosthetics, and rigid costume don't help —€” by the time wardrobe's done with him, that could be Helen Mirren in there —€” but the real limitation is En Sabah Nur's flat, unimpressed delivery, and his plodding lack of urgency. Over and over, the film grinds to a halt as he monologues about decadent modern society. Suddenly the way Captain America: Civil War let punching stand in for talking makes more sense.

His opponents are equally ready to explain themselves in sleepy, repetitive speeches. Mystique's cynicism, Magneto's losses, Scott and Jean's fears, even Charles' optimism all come out via expressionless monologues. The entire film feels like a Prozac ad, where everything has gone emotionally gray, and the world is waiting for a serotonin hit. But at least these characters get to talk. Storm, Psylocke, and Angel barely get a word in. They look terrific in costume — finally, the X-Men movies have a Storm with a little energy and attitude, and the iconic mohawk look — but they're breathing set décor, and Singer has no interest in what drives them

Oh.

It's 57% now.

I have to say that Apocalypse is a perfect fanboy movie. I was reading these stories some 25 years ago. I stopped reading comics just after the Apocalypse. I got really warm inside while watching this familiar story unravel on the screen. It was like a homecoming for me.

I really liked it, but it might be the nostalgia talking. The movie itself was decent, Quicksilver steals the show and R-rated Wolverine is being introduced. Plot has its holes and the action could be a bit better. But goddamn those Quicksilver scenes! Those are worth the ticket.

I gave it the same grade as Civil War: 4/5. And if you want to know what I thought about BvS, it was a 2/5.
