Not trying to be a debbie downer, but it is E3 season, and it could be that ad is just an E3 ad to highlight that Horizon will be a big title Sony will showcase at E3. After all, it's in LA. If it's outside LA, then it's a different story.

There's also that one guy who was at E3 last year and PSX with Adam. I can never remember his name because it's a little unusual but he does a good job.

Sony should devote those development resources to a new IP they can cultivate for the future or use them to revive an old IP. Neither may move as many copies as a Killzone game, but it would be a good investment for the PlayStation ecosystem.

Making a new IP is not easy. It's a risky business that even Sony realized it. Nowadays, the cost of making AAA games have double if not triple previous gen, so it's hard to gamble your money away when you don't know it's gonna pay off. Besides, Shuhei doesn't tell his studios to do this or that. If GG has good concepts for the next KZ, he would greenlight it.

As for revival of old IP, they are dead for a reason. For example, games like Syphon filter and resistance sold good but not great, with mixed receptions. No point in bringing them back.

A lot of kickstarter projects have had some sort of "backlash". But what eventually matters is the end product.

The hardware upgrades are going to have to be substantial if the rumored 60fps mandate is indeed true. I'm thinking $499 doesn't buy me hardware that offers any kind of a substantial visual+fps upgrade over what PS4 does now. 599 it is!

There is no 60fps mandate...Just a mandate of 1080P minimum and everything else must match PS4 at least.

60fps mandate is only for PSVR content, and all current PSVR games already run great on base PS4.

On the topics of presenters and Horizon, that huge poster could mean it will be Sony's crown jewel of the show. Probably going to have a significant conference showing and floor demo (to the surprise of nobody). It's nice to see such a huge and promising new IP receiving so much attention.

Also give me Herman Hulst from Guerrilla on stage! That dude's stage-presence and charisma are off the charts! You can also really feel his passion for his games. Probably Sony's most underrated presenter.

Also we have no idea if the backlash was more significant or not, but there was clearly a lot of it. Some of it even happened, as linked above, after the kickstarter as well. Having a $3 mill kickstarter campaign doesn't really mean anything.

Remember how the Ouya sold 50 million uni- waiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.

Shovel Knight: 14,749 backers, 1.2 million sales.

Broken Age: 87,142 backers, ~380k steam sales + other platforms.

A game exists when it's project exists and is in development. Shenmue 3, FF VII Remake, TLG all exist as do games like Infinite Warfare, Horizon: Zero Dawn, etc.
Shenmue isn't going to sell gang busters but it's a kickstarter with managed expectations so it's going to do fine.

A game exists when it's project exists and is in development. Shenmue 3, FF VII Remake, TLG all exist as do games like Infinite Warfare, Horizon: Zero Dawn, etc.
Shenmue isn't going to sell gang busters but it's a kickstarter with managed expectations so it's going to do fine.

Yep, fuck it. Drop dem bombs. There are plenty of AAA games (exclusive or otherwise) coming as we wait for those bombs to eventually come out. It is about having a great and memorable show. The bombs will make sure of that for the majority of people.
