Look, I understand what it's like to not give a fuck, because I didn't always. I'm not trying to judge people, honestly, but when they taunt me over it once they learn I'm vegan I do get ruffled.
I guess we're on the same side again
I think I've mentioned my thoughts on veganism here before, but just in case:
I have a lot of respect for people who go vegan. It's something I've thought about doing and quite often feel guilty about not doing, especially because my reasoning for not basically boils down to convenience (it is more complicated than that, but it's still shitty)
If (and that's a big if) I ever have kids, I definitely want to try to raise them as vegans.

No vegan diet, no vegan powers.
Why not let your kids choose?
At the risk of sounding super ignorant, how do you feel this compares to moral indoctrination of children a la religion?
what kind of reasoning is that?! going vegetarian doesn't make you more angry. if anything it can make you feel better about yourself if you aren't content with how the food industry works in the first place.
This reminds me that my options are either Church's Chicken or Burger King. But with how my eyes are right now I might just end up eating cereal and going back to bed whenever its time to eat.:: eats delicious hamburger ::

I'm a shitty human who loves the taste of meat too much. (And doesn't like many of the protein alternatives like beans. So add on worst Colombian ever.)
Everyone raises their children to believe what they think is right. It's why I broke up with my atheist ex
I'm not trying to be flippant. I just know I don't care enough to stop myself from enjoying it. Same with a lot of consumer goods made in a capitalist system, honestly. :/it's okay, I'm dating someone who isn't a vegan and I don't bother her over it. it's not a litmus test with me
if you gave up a chance of happiness just because the other person isn't religious I find that sort of tragic![]()

My ex was an heir to a multimillion dollar trust fund, and promised me a life of ease for the rest of my life. She didn't believe in God and I did. Dropped her. That's how important it is to me... and now I'm about to become a Catholic priest
Can we all agree that Teriyaki sauce is a great dressing for salads?

Do you still have her number?Religion dictates everything from way of life to philosophy to behavior.

I've never mentioned this here before but I don't believe in sex before marriage, which makes me a villain or a no go in most people's eyes. Might as well go for the ultimate sacrifice then
with religion it's never that easy. if a person disagrees with such a major component of your beliefs its not worth it because there are going to be arguments. a lot of them
so feeding them the "standard" diet we have right now is no moral indoctrination?
Deacon is the ideal, becuase I might lowkey still meet someone.Do you still have her number?
Honestly, I would have done the same in the opposite situation. If it's important to you, it's important to you.
And I thought you were about to become a deacon not a priest? D:
cuz babies can't fucking choose! you always force shit into them. whether it's meat or veggies, you raise 'em how you raise 'em. once they're old enough they may make different choices but until them it's the parents being in charge.

NOOOOOO. THE EASY LIFE
You can inform your kid of both points of view and the pros and cons of each and let them pick.

I don't really get the issue. even if people don't believe in god they (in most cases) have a certain set of values that come with living in a society - most of which are compatible with the bible or whatever religious document you prefer. such as no murdering, stealing, lying etc.
so unless they're performing satanic rituals the issue here is just the plain act of not believing in a higher power?
My Catholic roommate asks how old you are.Deacon is the ideal, becuase I might lowkey still meet someone.
Sex before marriage is the big hurdle. Absolutely nobody seems keen on this and it kills me inside. I've turned down several people for my ticket to the eternal life.
And yes, the last part is for real... I could have lived the easy life forever
holy shitI got me ex pregnant and she had an abortion without my consent. Fuck. FUCK. I even named the child and she still went through with it. I said it was a miscarriage before but I was lying. I couldn't stop her. I'm a piece of trahs. FUCK. Adrian was his/her name. FUCK.
That's what drove us apart and when I realized our beliefs were too different ot live togehter. I thought I could reconcile our differences but I couldn't. god ammit
once again: you're presenting babies the pros and cons and let them decide?
no? okay then tell me what you're feeding them until they're old enough to make that decision.
but who does that?
I get what you mean, but I feel like the indoctrination term is only used in the case of leading someone into a more restrictive way of thinking.
And I'm not saying it's wrong either. I think if parents want to teach their kids about their religion or their morals then they ought to be able to, so long as the goal is to better the children and better the world through those children.
this is the type of thing that baits me. You can eat meat but what's the point in taunting someone with the fact? It comes off as disdainful because I actually do care about the animals. Just you do you.

even then, at what point are "kids" fit to make a decision like this? you'll have to make certain choices for them, food is one of them. and those choices will influence the child's decisions later, if you want it or not. that's why so many people just stick with meat, not necessarily because they agree with it or actively chose it at some point but because they were raised this way.
When they're old enough to know what animals are.
