I think I've mentioned my thoughts on veganism here before, but just in case:

I have a lot of respect for people who go vegan. It's something I've thought about doing and quite often feel guilty about not doing, especially because my reasoning for not basically boils down to convenience (it is more complicated than that, but it's still shitty)

If (and that's a big if) I ever have kids, I definitely want to try to raise them as vegans.

I am okay with this, I understand that it's hard especially if you weren't raised that way, I get it. As long as people are like you and don't act like a dick about it I'm fine with them.

cuz babies can't fucking choose! you always force shit into them. whether it's meat or veggies, you raise 'em how you raise 'em. once they're old enough they may make different choices but until them it's the parents being in charge.

I get what you mean, but I feel like the indoctrination term is only used in the case of leading someone into a more restrictive way of thinking.

And I'm not saying it's wrong either. I think if parents want to teach their kids about their religion or their morals then they ought to be able to, so long as the goal is to better the children and better the world through those children.

It gets into other commitments as well. So lets say Church every sunday or something. My SO (lol liek ever) might be like "I'm going to Church on Sunday, and I want you to come", and then you might be like "no, it's a waste of time." and then it's like "you think my beliefs are a waste of time" and then I sleep on the floor.

It's going to be a lot of more smaller things that are going to add up.

I look at it this way: A while ago my niece cried when she first learned what some of her food was (I've heard this type of reaction isn't entirely uncommon) She still isn't a vegetarian/vegan, and maybe will never be, but if she had the capability and efficacy to make informed decisions and determine her diet from the outset, maybe she would never have touched meat to begin with.

When I have children, I won't feed them meat. If when they're older and capable of comprehending what they're eating they decide they want to eat meat, then so be it.

Most people in America who eat meat still have boundaries. For example, they wouldn't eat a dog. For the average American, eating a dog is unacceptable. It seems morally wrong to them.

If that same person was raised in, for example, Vietnam or something -- Perhaps they'd have been raised eating dogs and consider it perfectly normal.

Since we all have conflicting views on the morality of eating meat, or the morality of eating certain types of meat, isn't it best then to not indoctrinate our young children into eating any of it and let them decide later?
