Does anyone else think that there will be a special Scorpio show as we get closer to release? I think E3 2017 will of course have Scorpio most likely as a big focus, but I am thinking that there will be a separate show before E3 2017 that goes into more specifics of the console or perhaps a special video about it.

MS is going to push Scorpio so hard it's going to be crazy.

Like I mentioned earlier, I expect it at the Redstone 2 device event early next year. They will announce the new Surface devices, Microsoft Band and then Scorpio with Panay leading the charge.

There is no reason scorpio couldn't do 4k gaming, It wont be ultra, but its not now either.

Hell the bone and ps4 could do 4k gaming just not at the quality level people would find acceptable.

 • True 4k gaming (not upscaling)
 • <= $600

Pick one. I will be beyond surprised if they can pull off both of these bullet points.

Its going to scale, these e3 shows are for the consumers not us. No way will it be able to push 4k native with the specs. I am going to buy one, but I know full well that PC's have a hard enough time pushing 4k today so for a console to do it? nah, its all upscaled.

Decent Scorpio interview, good read. That reply on PS4 Neo was crazy spin lol

Jez: Staying on the topic of Scorpio. You've announced it very early, which seems risky. We've all seen the PS4.5 'Neo' leaks, which Sony announced last week won't appear at their E3 conference. Now that you've put all of your cards on the table, is there a concern that Sony will come back with an even more powerful PlayStation?

Dave: I mean, we're convicted in this playing without boundaries journey that we're on. If we're convicted, it means we've got to be open with our development partners so that they have enough time to deliver true 4K and high-fidelity VR experiences in 2017. We have to do that. Everybody at team Xbox is committed to this idea of choice. I really like it as a gamer overall. You're putting it my hands to decide when I want to change the hardware I'm playing on. The services are going to work; Clubs, Looking For Group, Arena, Xbox Play Anywhere, all of those things are going to work.
Were we wrestling with the idea? We love the story of customer choice, and we love being friendly with our development partners, and trying to give them as much of a heads up as we can to take advantage of what we think is a six teraflop monster – I think that's what we called it in the video right? Haha. So, really it's about our own conviction and belief, and listening to our fans about them wanting to play without boundaries.

From speaking with specific people who should know at Microsoft, it sounds to me like the CPU on this thing will be AMD Zen

Nice.

I think it was kinda interesting that Phil Spencer said Scorpio would have 8 CPU cores. The Xbox One already has 8 Jaguar cores. As does PS4.

So if Microsoft was planning use Jaguar again with Scorpio, why would Phil bother mentioning 8 cores? It would not make sense, and I do not think that's the case.

It really only makes sense that Scorpio has 8 new CPU cores, and I believe they will be some version of Zen.

So, I have an insane theory for you guys, and you'll think I'm crazy, but here it goes: I think that Scorpio will use an ARM-based CPU. Here's my reasoning.

 • MS didn't seem to want to say anything beyond "8-cores"
 • ARM cores are actually getting pretty damn fast these days
 • I don't think that 8 Jaguar cores would be fast enough for Scorpio, and also think that 4 Zen cores with 2-way SMT would be fast enough already
 • AMD, in this tweet, said "SoCs," seemingly refraining from calling them both APUs
 • The way that tweet was worded makes it seem like XboneS actually counts as one of the design wins, making AMD's three wins Xbox One S, PS4 Neo, and Scorpio. This also means that one of these three would be ARM, and Scorpio is the only possibility
 • While the rumored Xbox TV could be the ARM win, there's not much reason to not simply use an off-the-shelf SoC in that
 • They're not launching until next year, perhaps because ARM needs one more generation to get up to snuff?

It seems insane, but the writing seems to be on the wall. Thoughts?

It won't rely on Arm as the main CPU.

One of the biggest things for me is that accessories will be compatible. My Elite will still work!

Strategically, the Scorpio just ruined the S's chances at decent sales. Seems counterproductive to reveal both simultaneously.

I really doubt it. Especially with a spec bump, a 4K bluray drive (for cheap), and considering Scorpio is a year away.

People like shiny things, and those that don't probably don't care/aren't aware of Scorpio.

This is going to come as a complete shock to you, but different consumers have different needs and viable price points. It's why $500 TVs can still sell despite the existence of much better TVs.

Or, to put it closer to home, it's why the PS2 outsold the PS3 several years into the launch of the PS3.

Stupidly, I am kinda hoping for a bit of a spec bump before release. 6TFlops sounds alright at the moment, but might not be too hot next year.

Meaning, no boundaries on anything...including price.

Calling it. $900 Xbox, Holliday 2017

You heard it here first.

Looks like Sony is killing it in games with 1.8 TF after three years and you're trying to say 6 TF won't matter next year? Oh come on.

The only real downfall for me about the Scorpio announcement is that it was too soon. I really don't want to listen to fanboys argue about 6TFLOPS and 4k for a year and a half.

I really don't.

Oh it's going to be a shitfest. They're already bitching about how long the XBO will be supported like they care. That's the new political talking point. The new Benghazi if you will.

I'm sure we will see Forza 7 there as a Scorpio show piece all in its 4k60fps glory.

Oh yeah, you can bet your ass that Turn 10 will be assigned to be one of the devs to show case the power of the Scorpio. Due to timing, I also think that Halo 6 will also be one of those titles.

It will be interesting to see though. Does Turn 10 go balls out with amazing IQ, true dynamic lighting, weather etc. at 1080p/60fps or do they go 4k/60fps with static lighting/weather. Even at 6tf, I don't think it can hand 4k/60fps and dynamic lighting/weather etc.

The adoption rate of 4k will still be ridiculously small by holiday 2017. These boxes should just focus at ridiculous performance and graphics at 1080p and for vr.

Yeah I know it's a silly thought. But there's not many people around here that would argue against even the PS4 being a bit underpowered in 2013.

State of Decay 2...

Sea of Thieves didn't even get a year. Also, Greenburg slipped in his Youtube E3 interview and said Scalebound is Spring 2017. It also seemed that Sea of Thieves was coming after from the way he was talking.

I want developers to go for 4K and push the industry forward.
