Star Wars: Rogue One Story Trailer

I kinda feel this will be the 3rd Star wars movie in a row that I already know how it ends. Not that I wont enjoy it but I would like to not already know what has to happen. I like Sith better than most people around here but we knew what had to happen. Same thing with the Awakens.

I'd bet folding money that the last shot of this movie is the first shot of A New Hope!

Do you mean you knew what would happen because of spoilers, in regard to TFA? I agree, it does remove a little of the suspense/mystery with knowing how it probably ends, but the journey is hopefully what will be of high quality.

Will be interesting to see what the last shot is, definitely.

You guys just blow my mind.

In 2012 you were all thinking to yourselves, man I guess we will never see another Star Wars move again. That's too bad, what could have been.

Here we are just 4 years later and we are getting so much more from Lucasfilm, and Disney.

I see too much complaining. Would you have preferred that they never made these films? My god just appreciate them for what they are. Its not life and death. Its continuation and in some cases an expansion on a series most of us loved growing up.

Again I remember very distinctly reading an article back in 2012 were George said there will never be another Star Wars film, and that really bummed me out.

Some of you complain about everything.

Speak for yourself.

Not all of us were so gullible.

Well, everyone else except for me was, but still.

Uhh, how were we supposed to know how TFA ends?

The last shot of this movie is just going to be Darth Vader putting the saber through the girl after he loses to her in a gunfight

HOORAY FOR MEN'S RIGHTS

Sith and Rogue One, I can see (and agree with the sentiment...I can't wait until we get past this initial diving back into the SW universe and eventually move beyond to some new things and perspectives and eras). But how did you know how TFA was going to end?

Depends on who you ask, I don't know what the final numbers were, but merchandising alone was expected to pull in $3-5B in 2015. I don't know where the final tally came in (and that's without Ep7's box office)

even if 5 billion, even with 2 billion in box office... they'd be at 7 billion gross?

They probably clear 2.25 billion of that? Maybe best case 3.5-3.75 billion after retailer / movie distributors, but not ahead of expenses. I mean, Force Awakens production plus marketing is at least 400 million... probably closer to 500 million.

Not because of spoilers, it just became fairly obvious after about 45 mins that I was watching a fairly similar film. I AM NOT KNOCKING THE FORCE AWAKENS AS I HAVE THOROUGHLY THAT FILM however I knew it could only end that way. Maybe that's not the same as Sith and Rouge One.

I love the visuals and the music (right in my geek feels)... but a lot of the lines are really meh for a trailer.

'Good.' 'Good.'

That's it? That's your punchy bonding dialogue?

I appreciate the grittier tone but come on, banter is half the fun in Star Wars. Can these grizzled heroes at least have some gallows humour between them? The droid is the funniest here.

End only what way, though? You knew Kylo was Han's son and was going to kill him? And that Rey would essentially defeat Kylo? Because those were the bigger takeaways moving forward than Starkiller blowing up.

This is the Star Wars movie I've been waiting for. Seriously looks amazing.

Is the general on the Death Star in the original films, even in a quick mention? From reading the current Star Wars comic, I feel like they've mentioned him there but don't remember who he is.

I really hope Disney didn't pull a Suicide Squad re edit during those rumored reshoots. This film needs to be dark, it's a war flick.

Nah, Krennic's a new character. He's not been in anything else yet.

wait. So Donnie Yen's character is a jedi or has Force powers?

I think he is more of a Force believer or religious adherent...but not really Force attuned user/Jedi. (But I'm probably wrong :P)

(actually..he is blind, right? So he apparently sees with the force? So I guess that makes him a force user...?)

He's a blind man who kicks ass and believes in The Force

I think he's totally going to be Force sensitive to a degree and I'm willing to bet
Vader exploits that somehow to find the Rebels

I thought he might be but his databank entry on the SW website says he isn't.

Deeply spiritual, Chirrut Îmwe believes all living things are connected through the Force. His sightless eyes do not prevent him from being a highly skilled warrior. Though he lacks Force abilities, this warrior monk has rigorously honed his body through intense physical and mental discipline.

I like the little piano thing they've been doing with the music. It's a cool twist on the classics. Honestly it must suck being the composer on these because you're trying to create something new and memorable on top of the greatest movie soundtrack ever created.

Is it just me or does the ship (I'm guessing it's the U-Wing?) around 40 seconds look really bad? Like poor CGI or something, maybe the lighting is just off or weird. Everything else looks fantastic visually.

It looks unfinished but since it's in the trailer, something tells me it won't improve THAT much. That and the shot with the Tie-Fighter and Jyn could use some more work.

Yeah, it can't be an easy task for Desplat but he's definitely up to the task. Can't wait to hear some of it.

It's funny to me that people keep harping about Starkiller. Even Snoke doesn't give seem to give a damn about it. I like the theory that the point of building "another Death Star" was just Snoke trying to lure Luke out of hiding.

Also, Kylo better not be another damn redemption story. We already had that with Anakin, and Kylo killed Han Solo. He is too far gone now.

Never heard that theory. Makes sense considering it was built and never explicitly directed by Snoke (as far as we know).. and Hux, not Snoke, brought about the idea of using its power on the Republic. It does seem to have been built without a specific purpose, which could support the theory that it was created to expose Luke/the rest of the Resistance.

IMHO, Kylo was never meant to be redeemed. His decision to murder family was a point of no return. If they try to redeem him, what would he have left to lure him back to the light? He killed the person most important to him in cold blood to solidify his inauguration into the Dark Side, whether his heart was really in it or not (spoiler alert -- it wasn't).

Please do. If you are a hardcore SW fan, you owe it to yourself to watch it 1-2 more times. Kylo Ren is an incredibly deep and well realized villain, to start. There are so many nuanced expressions, interactions, and moments of character development that you'll never pick up on with one or two viewings. I'm still picking up some of them with rewatches.

For example, the relationship between Rey and BB-8. I never realized that her first meeting with him is a direct reflection of her own experiences on Jakku.. both are lost/abandoned and share similarities with each other that allow their relationship to grow. "Where do you come from" is essentially Rey looking into a mirror and asking herself the same question. This is also the reason why she can't bring herself to sell BB-8; she seems so much of herself in him (subconsciously) which keeps her from abandoning the little guy. These examples only scratch the surface of the brilliance that was overlooked by rabid fans picking apart each frame to create ANH comparison videos.

Another example is all of Han/Kylo's interactions on the bridge scene. So much is overlooked. The fading of light over the entire scene reflects Kylo abandoning the light side and solidifying his bleak future. The score, which begins with a sweet, innocent tone (reflecting Kylo's remaining love for his family and inner struggle) and finishes with a relentless/intense climax as the scene builds toward Ren murdering Han.

I could go on and on. Brilliantly crafted character development considering the pacing of the film.

yup. Force Awakens is way better the second time, and keeps getting better.

So well crafted and made.

I really, really, really want this to be good. A dark Star Wars movie with a badass female protagonist, Forest Whitaker looking really cool, and Donnie Yen knocking dudes out is the thing dreams are made of.

I just hope the script and the director are up to the task. I would hate for this to be shitty.

The poetry is already rhyming like a mother so expect another redemption story.

I like this theory a lot and it falls pretty well in line with the Empire's plans of being obsessed with super weapons and also using the weapon as Rebel bait.

I really hope Kylo's story goes further down a path of being so obsessed with eclipsing Vader that he ends up becoming more dangerous and wild than Vader while also simultaneously being ignorant to the fact that he may have actually surpassed Vader already. Have Ren off Snoke in the next movie, take over the First Order, and have him go on a ruthless killing spree across worlds trying to find Luke and Rey.

Exactly. So far, Kylo has been the anti-Vader in every regard. Let's keep it that way. Instead of redeeming himself, he falls further into darkness and becomes totally unhinged. One of things highlighted in the art book about Snoke is they wanted him to look like a creature who would've been quite handsome before being corrupted by the dark side.

Now with that nasty scar across his face, imagine Kylo's appearance deteriorating as he becomes more and more consumed by the dark side?

Edwards films always make for good trailers.

This will be the darkest SW film we've seen so far (till Johnson graces us). If the reshoots really did fill in the void with the character development, then this will be top tier SW for me.
