Watched quite a bit of the video (didn't watch the beginning, skipped around the middle, and watched all of the end) and I really enjoyed what I watched.
I think it might be tempered expectations, though. The IQ and AA aren't good by any stretch of the imagination. But the VA isn't nearly as bad as many of you make it out to be. Its B tier, I'd say, but not horrible (Basically I've heard much much worse and this doesn't make me want to switch language dubs). The music is ace with many more battle themes than I expected. Seems to follow the KH approach of having different battle themes for different types of areas and in different "boss" situations.
Liking what I'm seeing of the banter too. This is especially true when Cor is in the party. You can feel how they see each other in the banter like how they always refer to Cor as Marshall, or how Ignis even asks Gladio to heal Noct when he's in danger. It adds to the moments, but hopefully it doesn't grow stale by the 40+ hour mark
The combat actually seemed quite good to me. Liked that they showed wait mode a little too (along with Cor's attack). It just looked like it would be fun to attack similarly sized enemies. Also, I seriously LOVE these enemy designs. That spider thing nearer to the end was ACE! Magic synthesis makes me a happy camper! Looks like there are 4 magic types out in the wild (probably fire, ice, elec, and holy(maybe its dark, who knows)) but it looks like "cure" might not be conventional in this game. Since we've seen "heal fira" before, maybe we can make like a AOE heal blizzara or something. makes me excited to have magic + effect boosting. Then again, Libra is in the game so maybe Cure will be standard and you just have to mix it or buy it or something
I also think that people might have some expectations of the open world that this game won't fulfill though. Its definitely backdrop for the story, side quests, etc. but I wouldn't expect a Witcher 3 style open world where you get something or do something super frequent. I probably won't care too much, since a "open world as background" is what I'm fully expecting, but I can definitely see people hating on this aspect.
I think the most important 2 things are that as I was watching, it looked like fun and felt very "final fantasy". I was smiling why watching this straight gameplay footage, which rarely happens. I want to get my teeth into it. The other thing is that despite the realistic setting and stuff, it definitely "feels" like a Square "mainline" final fantasy game. I always felt like mainline final fantasy games have this odd ineffable thing about them that made them all final fantasy titles, which (considering just how different many of the games are) goes well beyond tropes and cliches. I just felt, while watching the video, that this game has that weird thing.
I was scared that I wouldn't like what I was gonna see considering some of the impressions here, but I'm actually glad that I watched this. It sure as hell isn't gonna be a perfect game, but I have a feeling that I will enjoy it all the same!
