Lame as hell that GOG hasn't gotten any of these experimental patches yet. First, and probably last, time I order from them rather than Steam.

So as someone only getting 45fps with a 4790k and a GTX980, what new updates since launch should I be downloading/trying? I saw the snippet about Nvidia drivers.

If you're using Steam, get the 3xperimental version listed in the OP. Then download the newest nvidia drivers. (released two days ago)

Game is running well for me so I'm hesitant to update my drivers.

It's what makes PC gaming so great....... you don't have to update if you don't want to!

That being said, the drivers really helped out SLI users because it wasn't even enabled before. My performance almost doubled. If you're single GPU and things are running great......you probably can get by without them for now.

So the DoF filter in the game is the true culprit for everything looking blurry or the resolution not looking like it's supposed to. Someone modded it out.

I just tried it and it improves the clarity massively, though I'm still on release patch so I don't know if they removed it for the experimental one.

Nice. Will try it. I hated the dof effect.
Any way to remove vignette?

This is my exact setup as well, and I am getting a mostly locked 60fps at 1080p high settings (high shadows, not ultra) with FXAA. I am using the new driver and experimental branch. I tried SMAA and got frequent dips to 40 FPS, so I went back to FXAA. I also tried some DSR options through NVIDIA, and those tanked my FPS too so I'm sticking with 1080p for now.

Is it polished enough to purchase now? I've been waiting it out so that I don't have to deal with all of the issues.

If you want to wait for "all issues" to be resolved, it is not yet the time. However, the game is so much fun, if you think you'll be into it...... I'd get in. I'm glad I did.

Depends on what you're looking for. It certainly doesn't feel like a bug-free, full priced product right now. But it runs well enough. I've already purchased it, but perhaps in hindsight I should have waited.

I'm going to give it a week and wait for official releases of patches before I jump back in. If they're figuring it out as they go along, I don't really feel like I need to be along for that ride.

Dual 980TIs and an i7-5820 on a 4K monitor. No matter what settings I change at 4K I always get around 30FPS. All high settings, 30FPS, all low settings, 30FPS. Is anyone else having this issue? Vsync is off.

Go into the ini settings and change max frame rate to 1000

Good to know. Finally see how this game scales.

For reference, running the following:

i5 2500k at stock (I know, I know overclock it)
2x GTX 970
16GB RAM
1TB Samsung 850 EVO

Game has been running well at 1920 x 1080 with everything on high, though with the hitching/stuttering that everyone mentions (FPS above 60 except when flying, sometimes). Running the normal branch, as the experimental hit me for 5-10 frames. Still worth playing here over the PS4 locked at 30 FPS with the same hitching.
Running the game with new drivers and experimental branch. Everything on high, SMAA x4. Both cards are hovering around 80%. Running at an RTSS limited 60 FPS most of the time, but I'm still getting random hitches with drops down into the 20s and 30s. Wonder if it's an issue with the 970s 3.5 gb VRAM bullshit or something else.

Was thinking of going for another 980ti for sli. Would you say it's worth it?

The water rendering is bonkers performance wise. I could be standing in one spot with my fps comfortably locked @ 60. I turn 2 or 3 degrees so a slither of water is visible - and I lose 30fps.

Not tried the very latest experimental build form a few hours ago. but im not confident this water thing will be sorted. Im finding myself leaving a planet right away if it has water. Its a shame as some of them look quite nice. ( aside from how water looks when you are flying = hideous )

This. It hasn't been a smooth ride , and there are still problems, but I haven't regretted the $60 outlay for one second.

YMMV

The experimental patch worked great last night. Whatever was changed today completely broke the game for me. Can't get above 40fps with a pair of 1080s even in indoor locations. I just don't get it.

Same problem I've been having with a pair of 980s.

The beta patch and nvidia update cleared up the most glaring technical issues for me and I really enjoy the game so I would say buy. Screw the haters. :)

game does NOT stutter at all and is completley smooth for me now, was horrible before with gog version now using the steam version latest drivers and patch 4.

specs are 4790k and g1 gtx 1080

@1080p everything max including the AA when i break stuff with the ray, it drops below 60 and feels like crap, if i change the AA to FXAA fps is well above 90 at all times.

now using DSR from 2K with everything to max besides AA which is set to FXAA and game is smooth as can be so far.

That's.... odd. I'm using a single 1080 and getting pretty solid performance. Have since launch and I haven't used the patch.

I updated to the experimental patch and latest nVidia drivers last night (using a 980 here). Performance seemed good, but the game still crashes (crashed as I was leaving a jump to a new star system). I guess that's pretty common?

Ugh, still cannot play with mouse and keyboard after the experimental patch, DS4 controller with DS4Windows works but WTF? The mouse cursor goes crazy and near uncontrollable whenever I touch a key on the keyboard, alt-tab will reset it, but it just goes bonkers again. I tried a new keyboard and mouse but still the same problem. Updated mobo and chipset and GPU drivers.

Also getting weird bands of static-like artifacting graphically.

ASUS Z-97e motherboard, Intel i5 4690k, EVGA 980ti, nothing overclocked, rock stable and no issues otherwise.

It feels weird but I'm actually considering trying to get a refund, something I'd normally never do even for a game that's not very enjoyable, don't know how that works or what the implications are though... Maybe my boredom with the game after about 20 hours is factoring in, think I'm pretty much done with it for now at least. As it was more or less playable after some tinkering, guess it would be cheezy to get a refund at this point.

You already mentioned the alterations that you would want to make, so if that didn't improve things, I'm not sure what will.

For what it's worth I was hitting in the 40s at 4k with my 1070, and turning everything up or down seemed to have not effect on the framerate. I eventually went down to 1440p, with everything maxed and it maintains 60. It's a shame, because the game isn't a looker, and would probably look a lot better at least at 4k.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure you can't ask for a refund after 20 hours of playing a game.

I've had one crash that wasn't realted to alt+tab in about 15 hours.

How do I get some AA in this game? Even with DSR 2x my res and AA forced in Nvidia Control Panel it looks like shit

Do these mods to get rid of some post processing

Any news when they're going to release a non experimental patch?

When it's done and stable. No timeframe, they're doing a lot of quick changes with it though, so that's a good sign.

I'm becoming convinced that the only way I could fix the stuttering is to upgrade to better hardware to power through the game's problems. I would settle with a PS4-like experience and lock the framerate to 30fps if I could but even that doesn't fix it.

On a 965m with expermintal branch at 1080p and smaa on latest dri er: without locking it to 30 fps (which works now) it goes from 30-50 and is terrible to play.

Locking it to 30 and the frame pacing is fine and enjoying it much more then i expected.

From what someone was mentioning earlier, the Nvidia Control Panel doesn't do anything for this game when forcing AA (Or maybe it was only specific types of AA due to the rendering techniques being used). So it's possible that the AA you're choosing isn't doing anything. I believe the experimental branch fixed at least some of the in-game AA choices though.

Also waiting, was really hoping it would be today, but likely tomorrow or Friday I would imagine.

Thx. Hopefully tomorrow.

But I'm trying out some mods and ini tweaks everybody seems to be talking about atm... and man I agree: huge difference. Thx modders!

Vanilla, 1080p ultra, fxaa :
nms_vanilla8hsx3.png

tweaked (140 FOV, forced 16xAF, Internal Resolution Multiplier mod (1.5x), chromatic aberration, vignetting and scan lines removal mod, Instagram filter removal mod)

Out of curiosity, has anyone tried to get a refund here beyond the 2 hour count? It says they do it on a case-by-case basis. I've maybe got 5 hours, but the more I think about the game, the more I think I might want to wait to see what it becomes (If it becomes better) in the next couple months. (Performance and otherwise.)

Anyone have any luck on Steam?
