It just seems like this is being rushed out for no reason. If it's for PSVR, I don't think they have done a good job selling it.
It will probably be sold out by the end of the day honestly

There is no way their next iteration will be at the same level of the Scorpio. It will be a decent amount more powerful, as it should be.
There's only like 20 games released and unreleased who benefits from the Pro as of now.
Sounds like it's rushed to me.
it's a mid gen refresh, it's right on time.
I don't care what MS say Scorpio is, that's a new console, not a half step.
My prediction is they don't want the console to go against the Scorpio. Rather have a 1 year head start.

I agree. The showing could have been done better, but I don't expect that the Pro will suffer much from it. Gamers will buy what they want to buy, and many will chose the hardware that gives them better experience. The messaging was totally off. If they focused on game improvements and what the differences are going to be for 1080p users, things would have been better. Our expectations were too high, too.
The thing leaked many months ago. It's definitely not being rushed to the market.
It's been 3 years since PS4's launch. It'll be 3 more years until PS5. The timing is just perfect.
They want to sell 4K TVs.
In terms of rushed it's like why did they initially think that they needed a PS4 Pro this year.
That's what it was supposed to do to begin with. its up to devs to support games before NEO's release, and its mandated that all games have NEO support after NEO release.
It has nothing to do with being rushed.
I tried my best, but it seems a lot of people didn't understand the basic concept
Perfect timing to try to stick a coup-de-grace to Xbox's competitive chances.
Gain enough ground over the next 12 months and Scorpio will start too far behind to ever offer a significant threat to their dominance.
Entry level covered by Slim, enthusiast/higher-income market by Pro, PSVR for the futurists, all backed by a pre-existing install-base and mindshare advantage and maximum 3rd party support.
That's a strong hand to play.

It only feels that way because Microsoft played the trap card.

They didn't need to show an image of who all will be supporting the Pro because this is still a PS4. All current and future PS4 games will work on it, so all the same devs are already making games for the Pro.Sure but since Sony is actually trying to sell this product I would expect them to provide incentives at least at launch for developers to release an patch.
Traditionally with an hardware launch (or even subscription based software launch) they would have shown a list of participating publishers and developers akin to this:
Which didn't happen here, now maybe they changed their ways since it's a different kind of launch but I personally think that they didn't use this format because as of now there's a lack of confirmed games who're taking advantage of the Pro.
Scorpio had nothing to do with it, Sony already had this planned as we know with the Neo leaks that turned out accurate.
If anyone rushed it was Microsoft to announce the Scorpio once they realised Neo was on the way.
Indeed I is. Which makes it all the more baffling when they reiterate again that Ps4 Pro will only be supported during ps4 lifetime.
Why not announce the end of generations and the rise of iterative consoles?

Yeah but the importance of launching in this financial year was strengthened greatly when MS publicly committed to Scorpio's launch timing.
Because they have to. Releasing early is their only advantage over Scorpio.
They are. They want to be ahead of Scorpio and NX.

Perfectly timed for psvr
I understand that once the specs are finalized and manufacturing has started that it's hard to stop but why did they need to release a more powerful console this year?

Sony spun off the tv business. I don't really think this is the case or they would have also included uhd blu ray if it was based off th tv side.Pressure from other departments to "push 4K".
It seems like a very half step device and doesn't even look premium since it shares the new bargain looking Slim design and not the slightly upmarket og PS4 gloss.
The Neo is a perfect example of enthusiast buying into a self perpetuating narrative they created. Ever since it was confirmed that devs were using a new PS4 model and we got specs everyone should have known that those specs were locked.
But because MS had a higher number Sony had to counter because engineering takes seconds and the Neo just has to have the biggest epeen in the console space. In reality the Neo is an opportunistic piece of tech to capitalize on chip manufactures selling better GPUs at almost no price increase with the added benefit of selling your console at a higher price and getting some synergy with PSVR.
