Dead Rising |OT| Chop Till You Drop Remastered

Certain events unlock certain things, yes. I'll normally play through Case 1 just to unlock the entrance hallway area, for example, but think of the areas you won't see on the first play through as incentive for the second play through.

It's a 6 hour first playthrough if you just focus on surviving. Which survivors die, who cares. You're just learning the layout, which side quests are worth doing and when they open up, that sort of thing, and levelling up Frank. You'll have a lot more fun first time through if you're just treating the whole thing as a sandbox for six hours than if you're trying to do everything in one go starting with a Level 1 Frank.

Then you'll have a replay with a bunch of new content to see.

I've played the game before, but I'm still going to do a B ending first playthrough before I do an overtime ending play through. And like I said, the B ending playthrough is one of the better endings.

Yes, this is true. I can't remember which areas though, I'm going to play this game for the first time since 2006, lol. Ten years...and I still remember almost everything. This game is good.

Off the Record specifically has a Sand Box mode that lets you just run around, timer and survivor free (well, some of them are repurposed as enemies). Not sure if any areas are locked off, though.

Looks like i'll just have to buy the 3-pack then. I really, really loved DR and never played on the record.

Dammit you're not making this any easier.

On one hand I only played DR1 for about 2 hours on 360 so it'll be pretty much a fresh experience for me starting where the franchise kicked off.

On the other hand OTR is the more refined and fun experience with added sandbox and online co-op stuff.

.... grrrrr. Sod it I'll grab DR1 and if it grips me I'll get OTR next week. Phew! These first world problems are killers.

DR 1 is the best game in the series. You made the right choice.

I bought a 360 for this damn game and ended up hardly even playing it. I couldn't figure out how to beat those mofos in the jeep near the beginning!

Anyone else order from Amazon? Says I have to wait until next Wednesday to get it. BLEAH! It does look like they finally split up the digital release, so will be downloading OTR later today!

Love DR1 but IMO DR2 is the best. Fixes what was wrong with 1 and adds some great stuff without going to far into zaniness.

Just like Saints Row. 2 is the best.

DR1 is my favorite. I just always loved the mall setting and how as ludicrous as some stuff is, mostly it's just Frank (or you as the player) being ludicrous rather than the world. DR2 I loved Case Zero, but never got around to finishing the game itself. I'm very partial to DR3 though. Sure the case files may as well not have timers, but the side quests have enough time pressure that I still got that Dead Rising feeling of feeling the seconds tick away as I tried to reach a side quest before it expired.

These games imho are at their best when you're in a rush to get through an area full of zombies, and your weapons break, and you just have to grab whatever the hell is to hand, and you're eating burgers out of dumpsters to stay alive or whatever, all while wearing a blood stained dress and no shoes.

That's what worries me about 4. The side quests still seem to expire which is good, but I'll miss desperately scarfing floor donuts to stay alive because I haven't got time to go out of my way to get good food or juices.

wait, they released all three games today?

Also, are they all available on disc? I'm not seeing Off The Record on Amazon.

They are not, only DR and DR2, which I do not understand.

I bought all the RE re-releases on disc, would've done that here too, but without Off The Record it doesn't make much sense.

This sucks. I don't want vanilla DR2; only Off The Record.

Oh well. Looks like I'll only be getting the first game.

I was looking at the price on Amazon, the disc copy is £25.

TBH I had no idea it was getting a physical release. I just bought it digitally and for once the digital price seems pretty fair in comparison.

Are DR2 and OTR not getting a physical release? I can't find them on the usual sites.

Just saw this which answers my question. I'm only after OTR on disc so that's a little disappointing.

Mouse & KB controls. How are they ?

Pretty good! Make sure to set the "aiming style" to arcade in the options, cuz otherwise the aiming is ridiculously filtered and floaty. The default bindings are a little weird too, but once I put things where I wanted (Aiming on RMB instead of Q, camera on M4 instead of RMB, etc) it all works perfectly.

Oh hell yes! Does it still work in the remaster? I'm searching for info but can't find any :/

according to PSN it does:

But doesnt stuff happen and lock you out of certain areas and such then? I cant remember... it's been AGES! I just remember getting burned out and wanting to turn the timer off lol.

Play through the story once and you unlock Overtime. Play through that and you unlock a Sandbox mode, that has no story and is basically just "survive as long as possible".
It's getting harder and harder though, but you can save, as far as I remember.

These modes are in DR2 and OTR as well. OTR has in unlocked from the start, but I'm pretty sure you have to unlock it in DR2 as well, by playing through the story and Overtime.

On the technical side, I was noticing some framedrops/microstutter when attacking zombies with AOE weapons (like those big sheets of plywood), but only after having alt-tabbed out in fullscreen. Guess the game doesn't like that so much.
Unless you're not referring to the Zelda-esque hit stop, said stuttering is intentional.

Which game is considered the best?

I haven't played OTR so I'm assuming that has the most features?

I only really wanna buy one and I know I enjoyed 1 more than 2.
1 is considered the best / most cohesive out of the bunch, warts and all, whereas 2 has more flaws in the smaller details and overall pacing BUT is still pretty good since it stays faithful to the formula.

I'm very partial to DR3 though. Sure the case files may as well not have timers, but the side quests have enough time pressure that I still got that Dead Rising feeling of feeling the seconds tick away as I tried to reach a side quest before it expired.

Never really felt pressured myself by the sidequests in DR3; the developers still gave you oodles of time in the Normal difficulty, and Nightmare Mode doesn't count because it's obvious they just arbitrarily cranked up the overall speed of these timers to the point you can't possibly complete all of them on a fresh save like prior games. That disagreement aside, I wholeheartedly agree with you about what made Dead Rising so memorable in its prime and there's unfortunately no chance DR4 will be anything more than a derivative, insultingly bland excuse of a follow-up based on all the footage and developer comments they've released since its announcement.

Jesus, I don't know how but the survivor AI is even worse than I remember. How did I manage to 100% this back on the 360?

7 day survivor here I come again!

Jesus I've just read up on this!

"You need to survive infinity mode in DR1 for 14 hours without the ability to save at all."

The WR is only 18 hours

208

Guess that's one trophy I'll be giving a miss.

Ah it's only online! Bummer... was thinking split screen or same screen local coop would have been amazing with the wifey.

I thought exactly the same thing when I first saw it. Such a shame as this is the kind of game that's simply made for couch co-op. Me and the missus would lose days to it.

BTW I find it super weird that the quest arrow is so horribly pixelated. It's clearly a 3D model but it's rendered as a downscaled 2D sprite.
Especially weird when it was displayed as an actual 3D model in the Wii version, DR2 and OTR.

I kinda hope this gets patched because it looks really ugly, especially in screenshots :(

Yeah, this kind of stuttering is intentional. It's supposed to be this anime-esque freeze frame when someone or something gets hit and/or hurt.
You can see it in many other games, too, especially fighting games.

Yup. Seems like a no brainer that must have been a result of processing/graphics power or something. It begs for local coop.

If i could find just the DR2:OTR in digital for PS4 id buy only that for both our PS4s and do it that way... but no way i'm spending 120 to do it. :/

It's more boring than anything if your careful and know where/when the bosses will spawn to get food off them. then you basically stock pile everything into a place the zombies can't reach and stand there until you're about to starve to death (25 minutes real time I think) then once you've exhausted all your food move to the next room.

I watched Men in Black 2 three times (marathon on TV) while doing it lmao

A fairly recent drunk purchase of mine was the Wii version of Dead Rising, a known bad game, because I got the urge to play through the series. This was announced just after I got that version.

What's worse? I ALREADY OWNED IT AND DIDN'T LIKE IT MUCH SO I SOLD IT.

Needless to say, I'll probably buy this one too.

Hmmm. According to everything i've seen online each of these 3 should be available individually for PS4 correct? All that shows up on the PS store online is the bundle in digital... and then only individual, physical copies of DR1 and DR2... no digital of physical version of a stand alone DR2:OTR.

Anyone know if there is a stand alone DR2:OTR either physical or digital i'm not seeing?

Flawed as it is (survivors sometimes not being able to climb the little wall to the safehouse vent, aiming controls), this is so, so much better than the sequels. Actual tension and challenge. Helps that I haven't played it in a long time, so it's pretty much like a new game for me.

That sounds like torture. Not the waiting... watching Men In Black 2.

I had a hard time finding them to buy on the PS4 this morning.

Maybe I'm better at this game than I thought even after 8 years of not playing this or maybe Capcom made the game a bit easier, I'm already lol 5 after 1 hour of playing. Hopefully I need to restart the game several times more

Crud... I'm in North America. None of those links work for me :/ Its weird... maybe they went back on their decision in NA? But all the PS blog posts ive seen say that each for $19.99 or all 3 bundled for $59.99 and the first 2 offered in NA physically as a bonus.

You're right.

Seems rather strange as by all accounts they should be available as stand-alone games in the US. Maybe they're just late in updating the store.

This is a great PC port. Looks fantastic at 1080p with all the visual features turned all the way up and locked to 60fps. So smooth...

And just as brutally unforgiving as I remember it. Dead Rising hasn't been the same since. <3

Thank you, Capcom!
