Splatoon Switch: hairstyles, pants, new clothes, almost definitely sequel

Agreed. It has to have it. It worked so well, why would they just leave it out?

Does anyone know if Switch even has gyros? Nintendo did a good job showing the main premise, but none of the other features.

Lets not forget that this was a teaser trailer for the Nintendo Switch (NX) and that what we saw of Splatoon only accounted for like 7 seconds or so of the 3:36 long video. A lot of folks are making too many assumptions when we have only seen so little.

Dat NIS weapon meta.

I liked Splatoon but wasn't crazy about it due to lack of single player. When I saw this I couldn't tell if it was a sequel or the original game. That's a problem.

You mean a relatively short single player mode. It wasn't lacking one and in fact played quite differently than multiplayer.

Really hope Nintendo didn't cater to the "no gimmicks!!!" crowd, because Splatoon is so much better with gyro controls.
This! So much this!
Gyros don't fall under gimmick anymore at this point. They've been with us for damn near a decade and they've improved to the point where they're far more accurate than they used to be. They're a big component in VR, they're used widely in mobile gaming, and most console manufacturers have a controller with gyros built in or in the handheld consoles themselves. The only thing that's changed is that developers are using gyros when they make sense instead of using it just because it's a brand new thing.
Wow, you just summed up what I was trying to explain to someone on a different site. I'm almost thinking of saving your quote on that, because it sums up everything that's great about motion controls and everything that has been done wrong with them and gave them a bad reputation with some players.

And who cares whether it's a sequel or an advanced port? What's the difference? In any case it will be a new game, a game different from Splatoon (1). At this point, this is all I care about. It doesn't even have to be a full sequel, because Splatoon is great as it is. All we need is an improved and more controllable (= less chance based) gear system, a few more text commands and... tons of other stuff that I listed on Squidboards lol. But seriously, they don't have to reinvent the whole game.

ALSO no second screen required. And people said it couldn't be done :)
Nobody said it couldn't be done, just that it is a better game with the second screen. Not having the second screen will be a huge downside.
Inkstyle.
If anything, it's Tentaclestyle. What almost everyone here is mistaking as hair are actually the squid's tentacles!
Hairstyles? What is this nonsense, Inklings don't have hair!
Exactly!
Looks the same as the first so I'm guessing port
Ehm, nope. Different start formation, pants, new "tentaclestyles", different map... it's not the same.
There's also a notable eSports push in the trailer, so I wonder how much of that will be implemented directly into the game.
Actually, there already was a notable eSports push for the first game. There was a tournament with 1 million dollars prize money and Nintendo hosted tournaments too. But I'm glad they're pushing for it even more, Splatoon belongs into the eSports scene.
yeah preferences are one thing, I was mainly talking about the enhanced accuracy that the gyro provides
if not for the gyro-assisted aim. it's just a better solution for aiming, especially in a game that relies on quick reflexes.
Most definitely!
I will cry if there are no gyro controls in this. Seriously. It is far and away the best FPS controls I've used on a console or maybe even ever. It was perfect.
Yeah this would ruin the whole game! I couldn't play it without gyro controls. And I surely wouldn't buy it if they are not in it.
I tend to agree with this but as long as gyro-assisted aim is in I'll manage

that's the make or break feature for me because I suck at aiming with just an analog stick
Yeah me too! But to be honest, it's more than that. Gyro or mouse aiming is just superior to dual-stick aiming because you can move the pointer freely, quickly and precisely. Even some people mastering dual-stick controls for shooters doesn't convince me, because you can always get used to a suboptimal method, that doesn't mean that method is the best one.
I'm assuming gyro motion is still in, but not having a full on map at all times changes the game completely. Now you'd have to rely on talking to team mates instead of just looking at the map and being able to assess what's needed.
Yeah the map was actually the one thing that made communication less important. It was a huge innovation if you ask me, because 90% of communication between players revolves around positions and locations. Granted, it doesn't help against teammates that behave stupid or unreasonable, but those players wouldn't listen to you if you told them via voice-chat either.
Please a bot mode similar to call of duty so I can let my young daughter play.
There is already a bot mode in Splatoon. It's called the singleplayer mode (and no one needs anything from Call of Duty).

Anyone who played Splatoon only needs to take one glimpse at these images to know it's not just a port. Come on, fellas.

I read somewhere the stage shown in the trailer looked different from the Wii U version.
Is there any comparison picture? Would like to see the difference.

Think it's Splatoon 1.5. Game ported over, slightly upressed, new play style and some extra maps and stuff.

Mario Kart seems to be the same thing.

Really need to see how they handle the map, I can't stop thinking about it. Splatoon is different because the objective is constantly morphing and changing. In cod I can yell out that a dude was near a building, but in turf war, that only matters if they're about to wipe your team in surprise attack. It's actually to your advantage to not be near them and know what space isn't being occupied or changed. I think back to all the shitty threads with mock ups to drop the game pad, and I hope Nintendo really figured something out. Game is less compelling right now with no evident second screen.

That's definitely a sequel given their Ready animation is completely different, new hair styles, and some of the standard old weapons have a new design.

Kiiinda curious how this game works as a handheld title.

You can pretty much assume that a home console will always be connected to broadband, but that isn't true for a handheld. There has to be a lot more single-player content this time, and also probably local multiplayer.

Oh man I hadn't thought about this. There are going to be a lot less people playing on a wired connection, especially in Japan.

i like the idea of having a Switch around the apartment, picking it up and being in the Splatoon hub with a bunch of other people, playing a game and then putting it back down

i hope they price this right because it has a ton of potential

Well I mean...of course it's a sequel. This is probably lined up to be a Fall 2017 release, almost two and a half years after the previous game.

Considering the Wii U required a separate adapter to even use a wired connection I think a large majority of Splatoon players were already wireless to begin with.

Wi-fi? lol

Seriously though you make a good point, but I'd be shocked if the wi-fi chip wasn't on the handheld unit itself.

I mean Nvidia's SOC is on the handheld part. I can see the ethernet port being on the dock though.

I'd say 99% of people on the Wii U didn't have a wired connection either since it needed a usb adapter...

Have people forgotten about a little thing called wi-fi?

Don't tell me people think this console won't have wi-fi?

The "guts" of the console are on the handheld element, not the dock, so it's safe to assume that the wi-fi chip/module will be on the handheld too.
