Really disappointed with what DF found out about the PS4 pro. I just hope that it's underwhelming because it's at launch, but games like Uncharted 4 should have had checkerboarding to 4k instead to 1440p increase. Same with other games. The issue here is that 1080p users have less reasons to upgrade. I think I would spend the extra money for the pro if I am shopping for a PS4, but since I am not it's not worth it, especially now. The embarrassing thing is that I have already sold my PS4 and bought the pro from Amazon. It's too late to reconsider getting the pro at this point for me, but I just hope I don't regret it.

my post may have gotten lost but was wondering can the 1080p/60 performance mode be enabled on a 4K tv, at work very limited.

ND couldn't hit 1800p, thats why they couldn't utilize checkerboard rendering effectively.

They are also patching an older game that's already released. Days Gone and Horizon hit these resolutions, I'm sure ND can as well with more time, but best to focus on the next upcoming game and perhaps SP DLC.

Sounds like it's a great piece of hardware. I'm interested for sure but haven't really decided when the best time to pick one up is gonna be. Still in the process of choosing a 4k telly so I'm no rush yet.
Oh and it's disappointing but expected to see yet another PS4 Pro thread filled with wilfully ignorant users aggressively pushing misinformation again though. Most threads about this thing on Neogaf have been pretty unreadable because of it.

It didn't look that much better going from PS3 to PS4, and was still 30 fps on PS4. So I doubt it.

1440p downsampled to 1080p is a huge upgrade in AA. UC4 is already good with AA with the downsample it will be insane. I would worry about regretting. The new games will take more advantage of the pro.

I am watching supposed Skyrim pro vídeos and the frame rate at native 4k seems way worse than OG PS4 at 1080p.Would be funny to buy a pro and have worse frame rates...

Yes the game should let you choose and if not you can set the output resolution of the console manually to 1080p.
Nope simply because:
1)Sony with PS4 wants to sell you a game console and not a media center.
2)It won't be even necessary because the format will stay niche.

Didn't they specifically talk about the Skyrim Remaster in the DF Pro Review, and say that it didn't have any issues in 4k, which made them wonder if it the game had a lot of extra headroom even on the OG PS4? This seems hard to believe.
I'd bet we'll see a res increase at the most.
There are no doubt people who want to have actual conversations, but this mid-gen upgrade has a large contingent of people on GAF who wouldn't want it, full stop. Didn't matter what the reviews were or that even DF said that it's very difficult to tell the difference between checker-boarding and native 4k, those people were going to latch onto anything negative, or failing that, push fud because they never intended to buy it, and actively want to dissuade others from having something nicer than they have. Sad realities of confirmation bias.

You think there's going to be another process shrink next year? I highly doubt it.
It might not even get a Pro update because technically, the original release of the game (Japanese) came out before the cutoff release date for all PS4 games to have mandatory Pro mode support.

You can leave it as it is and you'll be fine. I just did the transfer from my PS4 (main) to my kids PS4 and it worked fine. Once I trade in my PS4 for the Pro, i'll transfer it all back. It doesn't matter which PS4 is what in regards to transfer. That only applies with playing games and who owns them.
Yea, no doubt that they had to consider budget, but it is a shame, as ND is a premier studio for Sony.

The transfer process makes the Pro your "primary" PS4 and deactivates the others, but there's nothing preventing you from playing on your old system. I switched back and forth between my vanilla PS4 and the Pro for review screenshots.
It will forcibly kick you out of the non-primary in the middle of play if you sign into the primary console.
And no, you don't have to make the Pro your primary I think. I forget if the transfer process gave me an option. (It's literally the generic PS4 transfer process. Nothing is different from it being the Pro.)

I personally can't eyeball a youtube stream and pick up anything meaningful about performance, res, etc. I'd just be surprised that DF didn't say anything about bad performance when they specifically talked about the remaster on Pro. Given that Sony's own guidelines were that a game couldn't run worse on the Pro than on the OG, this also seems suspect.

According to DF, TF2 is a dynamic res game with the following:
-OG PS4, goes up to 1080p at max, and adjusts lower to maintain 60fps.
-Pro, goes up to 1440p at max, and adjusts lower to maintain 60fps.
That would have been what the screenshots were showing.
I can confirm that Skyrim runs noticeably worse on the Pro (1080p). Played enough on the standard PS4, to notice the drops which mostly occur in the Riften forest or foggy areas. It's a damn shame since the game does look a hell of a lot better on the Pro.
The Elder Scrolls: Online is a lot smoother though and frame rate doesn't tank as hard as it usually does in trials for example.

i'm in the same position.
And i'll be upgrading, for the following reasons:
* better visuals in games
* i own a loud launch PS4, and the pro is 'allegedly' less noisy, similar to the C-Chass
* i own PSVR, so that's another device that'll benefit from the additional power of the PS4
* (i'd like to have a 3rd dualshock)
what would be a downside - the PSVR breakout box only being able to pass-through 4k sans HDR is actually alleviated by the fact that my 4k TV doesn't support a proper HDR signal to begin with.
honestly, if your 4k TV had HDR it would actually be less of an upgrade, seeing as you would be able to get HDR on your OG PS4.
frame rate is described as the nominal frame rate. So its still 30fps nominally.
If you don't like how 1080p [or sub-1080p games in some cases] look on your TV when upscaled, then yes. Pro will offer higher base rendering resolution, and the games will look cleaner on the big 4K screen.
Also framerate is smoothed in some games, and some games that are sticking to the 1080p are getting higher rendering assets [better models, effects, LOD distances etc].

That's downright crazy if that's the case. There's no reason they should have picked native 4k if they couldn't make it work. With the multitude of other options at their disposal, this seems ridiculous.
I'm all but certain that was one of the things in the docs to devs. Leave it to Bethesda I guess.

Well, it still can be patched. Frame rate is locked 30 most of the time, from what I can tell. I'm not really sensitive to frame rate slightly lower than 30 fps and it's nowhere near the level of fallout. But sprinting through dense forests, very foggy areas with lots of alpha effects does feel like a 2-3 fps drop to me. This is entirely subjective of course.
I only noticed it, because I was playing Skyrim for the last few days and switching to the Pro introduced those performance issues.
You can not download the latest patch but other than that it will always run in "Pro mode". I think the extra eye candy is still worth it.

To be fair. A still image is the ideal situation for a checkerboard renderer. As the information doesn't change unlike with a moving image.
