PlayStation 4 Pro Reviews

I agree, I don't think anyone buys anything blindly

Which was the original point of my reply.

the only issue I have is too many "reviewers" are not equipped enough or objective enough in their reviews.

This can be applied to any purchase. Evaluation of the merit of a particular review should be the logical thing to do for anyone, which is also why people usually go through several of them to get various perspectives. Why even comment on this at all?

Specific gameplay/IQ improvements game by game if applicable. Video comparisons although very challenging to show proper difference are also very welcomed, thanks!

I'll see what I can do :) From my initial tests, Rez Infinite looks and feels much better, and Robinson: The Journey does too

Reviewers need to be taken with a grain of salt until they have a proven track record.

Similar to taking everything said on neogaf as fact =)

Objective reviews are lame as hell.

Final Fantasy XV takes advantage of the pro right?

Yes, however Tabata said they want to do more later on but won't be looking into it at launch.

So at launch, i'm assuming pro will benefit from higher resolution and more stable FPS, and maybe higher draw distance

While this is one of those cases where objectivity can "work" I also think it's not great for your typical consumer. Or even for a consumer like me. I have no idea how those specs will effect me, and I play games quite a bit.

I also don't care to know what all of those specs mean.

I do care about what someone says and if they think it's worth it, though. They have to prove themselves to be someone I tend to agree with--absolutely--but there are plenty of outlets that aren't going to talk specs and those outlets are still mega-important to the typical consumer.

Apparently so, however it is not known to what extent. Not as far as I know anyway. Supposedly, Square did not have the time to develop a fully-fledged Pro version however.

If I recall, it support Pro from a perspective of using the added raw power, but they've not had time to make specific changes to the game based on the added features of the Pro, like the ID buffer for instance.

This is an amazing package for anyone just jumping on a PS4. The noise reduction has me the most excited so far. I've got two PS4's at the moment and both are obnoxiously loud a large portion of the time. With that said I'll wait to see if the improvement in games I care about (those that aren't on the PC) is worth the money.

Lol what noise reductions? Most of the major sites are saying that it's the same volume as the OG PS4.

Objective reviews are lame as hell.

Objective reviews are a fact sheet. Here's my PS4 Pro objective review:

It's a new console that runs at 4.2TF. It plays all existing PS4 games. Some of these will run at a higher resolution, some of them will run at a higher frame rate. Some of them will run at 4k, some will have HDR effects. It costs £349. It's out on Friday.

Even stuff as "It's quiet" is subjective... The concept of "an objective review" is absurd

Exactly.

People getting mad at subjective reviews are crazy people.

Thank you, looking forward to it! We got some juicy Area X details today which was fantastic(higher internal resolution, etc), glad to hear about Robinson improvement as well. :)

PC gaf have been boosting about 1080p Supersampling for ages now they do it because how good it looks rendering 1440p and downsampling to 1080p, PS4Pro does this and you don't need a 4k TV to see it.
4K isn't PS4Pro only trick.
This is Supersampling from 1440p to 1080p and its FFXIII

That looks damn good imo and it FFXIII does get a Remastered treatment I hope it has a Supersampled mode too.

Area X looks incredible (I don't know whether I should link to the video again or not, but there's some social screen capture from it in there)

yes, the when is the question, but the release date is just a few weeks away

Beautiful. Im going to be picking up, I have a 1080p set right now but somewhere around the Superbowl I plan on buying a 4k TV with my tax money. I want to see how this game looks in glorious FauxK.

No they're not.

They say its c-chassis type noise.

"In terms of the acoustic performance of the Pro, it has much more in common with the c-chassis PS4 than the Slim. We were hoping that the larger console may integrate a larger fan - typically, the larger fan, the slower it needs to spin in order to displace the same amount of heat. We've yet to put the Pro through exhaustive tests here, but we note a peak 55dB during inFamous First Light gameplay, but really it's not so much the loudness that's the issue as opposed to the pitch."

Read the part you quote again, bolded the relevant text for you.

The reality is, the number of people who will own more than one PS4 in any model will be very small. It's such an edge case that I doubt Sony addresses it.
They should provided they come from the same IP.

My OG will replace the PS3 in the main room for Vue. I don't watch Vue in my game room but I'm hoping I won't get booted from Pro when signing into OG. Again, the OG is for Vue and Pro for gaming.

How polite.

There *is* a difference. BF1 on the PS4 Pro looks sharper. I've seen it with my own eyes, played it with my own TV. It looks better. It's noticeable. Same input on my TV, same everything. Some of the differences are subtle, but they are definitely there.

I apologise then.Unfortunately this should be placebo man. No game should benefit from Pro without a patch.Said and confirmed.

Any word yet if this does count as a PS4 in regards to PS Vue? I want the Pro downstairs but won't buy if I can't use it to watch TV while my family is in another room on the PS4 watching TV.

It acts as a normal ps4 in terms of only 1 user can only be logged into one at a time. So I think it would be safe to assume for PSVue purposes it will now allow for both to used at the same time.

(You can use an amazon fire stick), I used an amazon TV for my psvue additional tv's).

From the reviews I have watched, there is a noticeable improvement for PSVR. The smoothing of edges, increased view distance clarity, combined with higher res textures sealed the deal for me.

I also have a 4k TV so this is an easy sell to my accountant (wife).

So in the end it is worth it if you have a 4K/HDR TV, and/or PSVR or do not currently own a PS4.

I would say it is worth it if you are gaming on consoles.
If you have a high powered PC, maybe not.

For such a compact package, at a low compelling price, and showing tangible improvement in games, it is a must!

If you have an old PS4, really do consider trading in for a Pro. Remember you not only get eye candy improvements, but also usability from the faster disk access and additional 1GB of DDR3. You are also getting a spanking new hardware, away from the wear and tear! Sony has a taken a well calculated risk.

So I'm gathering the bottom line is:

Big difference on 4k displays, smaller but noticeable difference on 1080p displays?

Worth buying if you have a 4k display, or if you appreciate a slightly cleaner image on your convention monitor/TV.

Right?

So looking at the quotes in the OP I take away that:

It's a good upgrade but right now a bit of a wait and see for most.

Seems like it's only a no brainer for 4K TV owners that do no not yet own a Ps4.

For those who already have a Ps4 it will offer an upgrade in some games but most reviewers make it sound like it isn't an upgrade worth $400... At least on the Pro enhanced games out right now

Pretty much.

I definitely agree with this. If you can't get it at a discount, I would not buy this system if it cost me $400....however at $100 after a -$300 discount....it's a no brainer.

It would surely be a no brainer to ANYONE who doesn't already have a PS4, no matter your TV. The price difference between OG and Pro is very small considering the extra power involved.

It's also not a $400 upgrade.
