So I bought it today and am enjoying it so far. I can't say yet if the game is going to bore me as previous pokemon games have after the first few hours. The battles feel pretty snappy though so that helps keep me engaged.
The pokemon are pretty cute but I think I don't understand the hidden depth in pokemon.
Its actually very simple. Its like calculator chess lol.
Each pokemon is either going to be offensive, defensive or all around.
2 types of attacks, Physical and Special.
A physical move will target a pokemons Defense stat, The Attack stat of the pokemon using the move will be the modifier for damage.
A special move will target the Sp Defense stat. With Sp Attack being the modifier
Type Effectiveness is key. Certain types are better to use against others. The game is wonderful at letting you know firsthand.
That is straight up the elementary but heres where it gets tricky:
Moves have all different types of level of damage, getting the right moves on the right pokemon is key
Not all moves do damage overall, others induce status effects like sleep, paralysis, poison, confusion, even attraction. These are just as important, do not get caught in having only offensive teams.
Pokemon have a perk like system called abilities, these abilities can drastically change a scenario when a pokemon has something like "Intimidate" which lowers the opponents attack on sight, or even something like "Wonder Guard" in which a pokemon can only be damaged by super effective moves.
Pokemon also have natures, These natures dictate how a pokemons stats will layout. They work by taking a 10% nerf from one stat and giving another a 10% buff. Pokemon should be optimized for the right nature for the best stats
Thats like the best way to sum it up before diving too deep, tons of guides, Its why I love the game, so much depth. And the best part is not everyone is a "Pro" like other games so there is so much room to explore and not get washed just because its not the go to strategy.
