Pokémon Sun & Moon |OT| Ultra Beasts and where to find them

I foolishly decided to read up on Nature, trying to get a better handle on the mechanics and see what works well for starters. A day later and I still find myself mindlessly replaying the same 5 minutes of exposition, hoping for that 1/25 dice roll to come up as Adamant. Someone please snap me out of this madness so I can move on (or confirm if I should stick with it for the long term benefits).

Just stop now. Get what you get and move on. The games are relatively easy so that nature garbage means nothing within a normal play through. Once you have beaten the game, then you go back and breed for what ever you want. You'll have resources to affect natures, genders, etc. It's like EV's and IV's before post game, that stuff can drive you mad when you don't have the freedom to easily manipulate it all.

Get your first Pokemon and just go! Trust me man/woman! Then your partner can breed a true champ later on.

Endgame spoilers

It's incredibly dumb that you can't fight Lusamine *herself* at the final battle. I was hoping that would be the case. Getting possessed by Nihilego was just for the show and pointless then. Maybe they don't want Pokemon attacking "people"?

Yes I think so too.
You don't even actually stop her. She's taken out by the Cover Legendary in a cutscene. And that's bad.

Alright, I'm almost twenty hours in, and I'm loving this game for the most part. A few thoughts:

- Characters are really good this time around, Hau is great, so are those two Team Skull grunts on the first island
- The change from gyms to trials makes this game feel a lot fresher than it has in years
- Pokeride is so good
- Help is so annoying, especially when it's Zubats

Anyway, my current team:

- Millionaire the Incineroar (level 37)
- Kelley the Toucannon (level 37)
- FRONTIER the Magneton (level 36)
- Gojira the Shelgon (level 35)
- Wumbo the Whiscash (level 35)
- Arianne the Passimian (level 35)

Does anyone know how many SOS calls it usually takes to get a Hidden Ability? I've been farming Vulpixes for about 20 minutes now and I got nothin.

So I'm kind of new to these Pokemon games... Is there any way to level up a new low level pokemon fast to catch up to my current pokemon group? Should I go back to easier routes to grind him up?

Best bet is to fight strong opponents with you weak one in the lead then swap out.

Okay, time to go back to the world of little monsters, terrible spawn rates and no gyms (that still feels weird to say).

Also, just a reminder that PokeGAF has a DIscord chat. PM me for the invite link.

The game is amazing so far. The Trials are samey to gyms but feel different enough that its a breath of fresh air. It would be awesome in future titles if they shape the "Pokemon League/Gyms" around a cultural practice relevant to that region. It's seriously awesome.

Wondering if anyone with Sun who is late game can help me out? Looking for a Cottonee that you can find in
Poni Plains
so I can breed Moonblast. Would greatly appreciate the help!

If you accidentally wander around and overlevel, this game becomes pathetically easy.

My Mudsdale is about 5 levels above NPCs right now, and is just ripping through them with High Horsepower. As long as it's neutral damage, it's a OHKO. And for everything else, Rock Tomb or the Z Fighting move off of Double Kick.

At this point I could likely just solo the game with Mudsdale. Like, even if he dies for whatever reason (a crit grass special attack would do it). Then I have Wishiwashi. Who is obscene. And if Wishiwashi dies (through magic or something), then Decidueye can handle it. And if SHE dies, Marowak can clean up. And if Marowak dies, somehow, Snorlax and Toucannon are good enough to handle anything.

So at no point in this game have I ever been at any risk of losing a battle. I could probably count the number of times a Pokemon on my team has died on one hand.

I turned Exp. Share off after the first island because I was noticing how quickly my team was outstripping regular trainers. Now I've reached the third island and I'm fighting for my life against Hau. I might turn Exp. Share back on temporarily just to juice my party a little more.

I sometimes just send out Snorlax and use Metronome over and over while the NPCs use Focus Energy more than once or Helping Hand with no partner or some of the other hilariously terrible things they seem to like doing.

It is for Butterfree. He's such a good early game Pokemon and his various powders helped me catch legendaries back in the day before they just gave them to you. I wish he got an Alolan form. Maybe in Stars...

Also I gotta take the bus to the top of this mountain? Red never took a bus. If he wanted to get to the top of the mountain he WALKED.

He got Paralysis, Poison and Sleep moves.

Oh man, I'm not a fan of the call for help mechanic. It's really slowing down the game, since low health mons seem to call almost every turn (after using a move!) and succeed >50% of the time. Makes capturing and even just regular fighting feel pretty tedious sometimes. Is there any way to stop this from happening?

Status ailments.

I just got to the third island and my Decidueye is Lv. 37, the rest of my team around Lv. 30. I'm assuming I'm extremely overleveled? Really fun so far, either way.

Not sure if any of you guys can help, but anyone with Moon here has gotten as far as the place where you're able to catch A-Sandshrews? I'd like one, but have Sun.

The only catch is... I'd like for it to be female and called Tsubasa, if not too much a bother. As for trading, I can catch some Sun-exclusive and send back if that works, although I've yet to reach the actual point where Shrew would be avaible, just got to the 3rd island a while ago.

Thanks in advance, though!

I'm a biiiiiiiiiit into the 3rd island and my team is all around L30, so pretty much same. My highest is a Raichu L34, but the rest are ranging from 31-33.

Status effects will stop it, apparently. I've been making sure to paralyze Pokemon a lot more now.

Just as I was about to post about still not finding one, I got a Snow Warning prompt :D. I was considering resetting because of all the experience I gained from doing this, but nah, I'm not going through that again.

I don't know, I'm liking the game anyway, but so far I'd say I had a lot more fun in Y. Can't remember ever being so annoyed in that one.

The f.... Did you somehow skip the entirety of Lumiose City? XY were the WORST.

How do I evolve munchlax?

You have to raise its happiness level, which you do by walking with it, fighting with it (getting KOed drops it's happiness iirc), and giving it that food item at those sweets shops. I made the mistake with pichu thinking that the pokemon petting thing raises its happiness, but apparently the hearts on there and its happiness level are two different things.

I've been bringing multiple new Pokemon into the party. Partly to just test them out, and partly to evolve them and complete the Pokedex. It helps spread the Exp out without turning off Exp Share and keeps a small sense of 'challenge'

Anyone know what, if any, early game Moon Pokemon share an egg group with the Rowlett line? I have a female one and wouldn't mind making some eggs for trading purposes.

I tried Trumbeak, but the breeder outside said they don't like playing together and I assumed that would mean that they won't breed. I'll try and get a male Pikipek and see if that works better.

Is Dartrix a member of a different set of egg groups than Rowlett?

The entire line is in the Flying egg group (according to Serebi), with pretty much every other Pokemon based on a bird or bat.

So, I'm about to fight
the Elite 4,
and I have to say, I've kinda felt a bit underwhelmed with Pokemon Sun right now.

I'm not one to usually complain about pacing, especially in a Pokemon game, but the way the story was told felt kind of...rushed here. I think you only see
Lusamine once before its revealed that she's the big bad. Unlike in Platinum where you saw Cyrus multiple times and got a nice impression of his personality long before your first showdown with him.

There's just a sense of a lack of build-up that really puts me off of the whole thing. When I got to the game's climax, I got this sense of, "Wait, I'm here already?" I know I basically put all the side-quests aside to power through the main story, but I really feel like there should have been more in the middle than what I got.

I'm also underwhelmed with the way the Ultra Beasts were handled.
They only barely have a relevance in the story. I thought the game was going to heavily revolve around them, but they almost feel like an afterthought. You only fight one of them once in the main story and that's it. Lusamine doesn't even use one in her final battle. That fight with Tapu Koko and Buzzswole you see in the trailer? Goes nowhere AFAIK. It's disappointing to see that these things are basically just post-game legendaries after all that hype.

This isn't to say I didn't enjoy the game. I still really did. I liked how the box legendary is
not something the evil team of the game wants to control (well technically it is, but it doesn't go about that in the traditional sense) but rather a companion that's there throughout the whole game.
The Island Trials were fun and the Totem Pokemon were genuinely challenging. I played with EXP share on and I still ended up having a difficult time with them. Despite the game's linearity regarding the main story, there is still a lot to explore in Alola.

That aside though, I'm hoping that these games end up being the Diamond/Pearls of this gen, and Pokemon Stars/Prism ends up being the Platinum and vastly superior (if the rumours are true, that is).

Anyway, my team is:

Decidueye
Wishiwashi
Espeon
Snorlax
Turtonator
Alolan Ninetales

So what does it mean if my Pokémon (my starter) is tired/drowsy and do a know if it can perform well? Obviously it's a bad sign but how do I go about fixing it? I don't recall anything in the game yet about resting/sleeping.
