The Last of Us Part II announced

For real listen to the way Joel asks her "What are you doing kiddo? Are you really going to go through with this?"

He sounds so somber and sad

I get it. I mean I get why people are against a sequel here. I was in that camp as well. I would almost cringe at the thought of them forcing another game out. After taking a while to think about it I honestly can't see Naughty Dog forcing anything like this out. I trust in them. They have earned our trust and I'm sure they wouldn't be doing this if they didn't have a solid plan for it, if it didn't make sense.

They didn't have to do much for a trailer or tease, but that was extremely well done. Can't wait.

I was an advocate against having a sequel with Joel and Ellie but seeing this trailer gave me some serious chills and I want it now more than ever.

Naughty Dog has most likely thought about whether or not a sequel to Joel and Ellie's story would harm the impact of the first one more than anyone else, so the fact that they're going forward with it makes me confident that they know what they're doing.

I mean, guys, it's fucking NAUGHTY DOG

Assuming a similar time frame from teaser to release as Uncharted 4, I can see The Last Of Us 2 releasing in September or October 2018. Would be close to two years since the reveal, just like Uncharted 4 from E3 2014 to May 2016 release.

Yep, that wouldn't surprise me. I'm actually shocked that they showed the game so soon, because they would have only started on development proper after Uncharted 4 (June?). I did not expect to see even a glimpse of TLoU2 until next PSX.

Unfortunate that they will ruin that perfect, amazing ending.

Oh well.

How are they ruining it? Genuine question. Please spoiler tag in case someone here hasn't played it to completion.

From Neil Druckmann:

Druckman the god. I have complete confidence.

TLOU and UC4 are two of my favorite games of all time

I was iffy on there being a sequel as well but as good as the movie Godfather was, Godfather II was possibly better. Based on the trailer (and title), I think Naughty Dog can pull this off.

Poor Days Gone. Move over, the king is back.

I'm stuck at work I literally can't wait to get home and watch all these trailers.

The Last of Us was one of my favourite game experiences of last gen.

Never felt like the game needed a sequel but not mad this is happening regardless. I really wish I was still working QA at naughty dog though. Miss those guys.

Let's be real tho.

Joel is dying this game. Absolutely lmao.

And he's going to have a heroic badass death worthy of a badass like him.

peeps have been saying this about Sully in Uncharted since the first game. And yet... xD

Joel ain't going anywhere. Especially after the fakeout in the first game.

I really didn't want them to continue using Joel and Ellie when I finished TLOU.

After watching that, I'm totally in. This seems great, and for some reason the "Part II" makes me even more confident in Naughty Dog.

That was way too early too show.

I hope they don't rush this game and give it enough time to implement big improvements.

People's expectations are through the roof with this one.

"Person is going to die" is one of the most annoying, common theories in Naughty Dog threads and it almost never comes true.

Elena is going to die in UC2.

Sully is going to die in UC3

It's UC4. The final Uncharted. SOMEONE has to die.

Nate's brother is going to die. Elena is going to die this time. Sully is going to die this time.

Naughty Dog isn't as obsessed with killing of characters as you think guys.

Part II is a very clever way of doing this. Always leaves room for Spin-offs with different characters by adding a subtitle in the future. In Naughty Dog we trust

The first game had one of the most memorable prologues in gaming history. I think they might do something similar and kill Joel off immediately and it will be the Ellie game.

I love the Joel character but I think the story has already been told and they'll need to start off with a bang.

Wow. That would be brutal.:

I can totally see that happening.

So this is a thread full of peeps who think a sequel devalues the experience of the first?

I mean damn...you've played the first and experienced it. Nostalgia is holding you hostage. Let go.

To be fair, Uncharted is a different type of game compared to TLoU (pulp vs grit). There were plenty of deaths in the first Last of Us.

How does it ruin the ending?

It doesn't. The argument that its impossible to have an incredible sequel to this game never had any weight to it.

Just because the ending of the first one is brilliant doesn't have any bearing on not moving forward. Their story wasn't even remotely wrapped up

I'm pretty bummed to see they are making this. Why have Joel and Ellie again. Whyyyy. I'm afraid they're going to fuck up the great ending of part 1 with this.

I made some observations.
The lyrics:

I run wild
through the valley
in the shadow of death
and I fear no evil
cause I'm blind to it all
in my mind
my gun (?) they come for me
because I know
I will kill my enemies
when they come
and all the goodness and mercy
will follow me
of the days of my life
and I will dwell
on the s... (can't find the word) of more
So I walk the side
... (can't listen to what she says)
but I can walk on the path of the right
cause I;m wrong
I can (maybe it's can't) walk on the path of the path of the right cause I'm wrong.

Joel says she's doing that for 30 days.
She says she's gonna find and kill every last of them.

Based on the lyrics, what Joel and Ellie said and her shaking hand, 'm gonna assume that Fireflies are hunting her, so she hunts them back. However, Joel seems very relaxed, he should fear because of Fireflies hunting Ellie.
Anyone know what the song was or was that an original song?
Googling the lyrics turns up Shawn James 'Through The Valley'. Not sure if it's the song but it shares a lot with the ones provided here.

So late 2018 release if we're lucky I guess.

Delayed to Spring 2019 is my guess. Can't wait. Will wait, but can't wait.

It needed nothing.

This is getting made for one single reason.

ND wouldn't be getting the money if they decided to make something else? They don't seem like the type of studio that does things purely for the most obvious thing in this world.

I'll play it even though I wasn't too big on the first game. I am glad they are making the game they want though, instead of forcing TLOU design philosophies into other games where they don't belong.
