The Last of Us Part II announced

I really don't know where people are going with this ghost idea.
I mean they took out supernatural stuff out of UC4 .
You think in TLOUP2 they going have a Joel help her and then say it way all in her head ? This is still going to be a 10 hour plus action game with 2 character gameplay .

I don't think they mean a supernatural ghost just that Ellie is possibly hallucinating.

"Part II" makes a lot of sense to me. In my opinion the first part ended on a cliffhanger, and was my biggest complaint about an excellent game. To me this puts the emphasis on it not being a sequel, but the continuance of a story.

Great job Naughty Gods

Facial capture confirmed thankfully, from the start of the project this time so there shouldn't be any uncanny valley moments like in UC4.

I'm in the camp that Joel did no wrong, Ellie would of never consented and she was too young to consent anyways, and that the Fireflies are total pricks who sneakily hid a very important detail and may not even know what they're doing. That said, I'm happy they are bringing Joel and Ellie back for a sequel!

what if Joel is dreaming that he's a ghost and when he wakes up he actually remembers that he's Ellie's twin? man day one

He literally didnt stop to look.

Ok. If you want to believe in ghosts you can, but nothing in the trailer or the first game suggests that's a direction they would take. The idea of ghost joel is pretty much entirely based on us not seeing his face, for which there are way more plausible narrative and real world explanations.

What did he mean by this?

Theory: Ellie had a baby and the Fireflies took it because it inherited the immunity or they were hoping it did.

So excited for this game!

That would be soooooo dumb though.

I hope it focuses on the ruined friendship between joel and ellie after the ending in the first game.

So looks like the village they were staying in got wiped out.

...which I do not find all that compelling tbh. Ghost Joel theories make it a bit more interesting, I suppose.

Eh. Would have preferred a new cast.

Man, this gen is truly gonna be remembered as one of the best. So many great games in development. Day one on this of course. Story of revenge huh?

Okay, I'm cautiously optimistic. Disappointed they didn't turn this into an anthology series and have each different game from someone else perspective, as I feel the story of Ellie and Joel was finished, but here's hoping they don't fuck it up.

That, and saying "The Last of Us 2" outloud sounds like "The Last of Us Too".

Didn't notice that blood rolling down her cheek the first time. Damn.

Yeah and she doesn't even try to wipe it. She just keeps sitting there playing and singing.

Regardless, something really terrible had to have happened for Ellie to be this far gone. She seems pretty damn broken. I think that's also where a lot of the Joel is dead speculation is coming from, because that would likely traumatize / set her off.

Hallucination makes more sense than something "fantastical" like a ghost. She's (theoretically) hallucinating him walking in, looking at what she's done and talking to her.

That's still lazy, hackeneyed writing that doesn't fit TLOU at all.

The reason why Joel's face wasn't shown is because they are being coy and this is a teaser, they knew we would recognize Joel simply by his silhouette, hair/beard and voice.

This, not literally a ghost, just in Ellie's mind when she plays the guitar.

Either way, the first was very much Joel's story so I can see the focus being on Ellie this time.

Let's not forget what almost happened in the first game.

Oh I don't think it's a hallucination either, and I dearly hope they don't try something like a schizophrenia story. But I can see the argument based solely on what's shown in the trailer.
....COULD WE PLEASE NOT DISCUSS POSSIBLE SPOILERS?!
Theories are not spoilers, stop treating them as such. It's insane.

I seriously doubt Joel or Ellie's model is close to being final.

Joel's especially, since they wanted adult Ellie to be the focus and the main reveal.

One of the original ideas for this game was that Ellie would be able to control the infected, take into account that that's something they considered and prototyped.

I believe the theory. Only she will see Joel. It will be spoiled in game fairly quickly. Like once she gets to Bill. Her actual partner in the game will be Bill.

Well, it could be related to the fact that she is still infected. We know she's "immune" but the cordyceps are still in her brain and maybe the infection is just slowed. A game where Ellie slowly loses it due to the fungus slowly taking her mind would be a crazy way to go. Probably not the direction they will go it, but it's a thought. No vaccine, just a delay to the inevitable. That would cover the hallucination.

...eh? It's not a spoiler it's complete speculation.

Hahah, I just entered this thread and I saw nothing but that. I thought it was from the 4chan leak or something. I completely overreacted, but I would seriously have died inside if I had a big spoiler of TLOU ruined. It's one of my favourite games ever. I didn't see what a silly theory it was.
