The Last of Us Part II announced

Joel is dead.

Ellie is hunting the Fireflies because they killed him (in retaliation for what happened in TLOU).

She's singing because Joel used to sing to her and music was a thing between them.

Quote me on it.

Hope this doesn't happen just because it's so damn predictable. This is the story everyone expects.

Definitely possible I missed it, I only remember them bringing up the part at Pittsburgh. They were really light on details about the sequel, they danced around everything other than
Ellie
being the focus.
Yeah youre right. I went back and he was talking about the first game when he was talking about him treating her as an equal.

He said they wanted to have have moments that resonate with people in the same way in the next game but yeah he doesnt explicitly say they will be interacting with each other in the new one. Fack.

They seemed to imply that Ellie hand shaking might mean more than her having just killed someone.

Could be possible withdrawal symptoms? Possible that she has picked up some sort of addiction? Or then again it's also the same arm she has the bite so perhaps something to do with that?

Clicker Cocaine.

The humans are fine, the etirety of the infected sections have terrible enemy design in my opinion yes. And having terrible enemy design for half of the game might as well just be called having terrible enemy design. UC1 only has the god awful swarmy things for 10% of the game yet I still say the game has bad enemy design because that wouldn't have happened in a game with good enemy design.

I never said the franchise was fucking things up like gunplay, I stressed that UC4 was the first uncharted game to have good gunplay,I liked the gunplay in TLOU. I'm talking about how we're going to go from a game with no bullet sponges and a lot of maneuverability to a game with largely bad enemy design and restricted movement.
Right, and you actually think it's reasonable to act like you know how the game is going to turn out tow years from now. Not sure why I'm even engaging.

If nothing else, I hope they develop Ellie's uneasiness around Joel and uncertainty about him. It was the best thing about the last 3 minutes of The Last of Us.

But even then I don't think a whole story about that is necessary. Man I really don't think The Last of Us needed a sequel.

Ok, I am honestly hoping I am not offending anyone, but from the fingers, the face, the concept art, grown up Ellie has a lot of masculine features.

I don't know anything about gender change, but anyone think she is transgender in part II and that's a part of the story building after Left Behind?
A lot of people of a lot of different genders have a lot of different kinds of bodies. And honestly, if she was trans it's not realistic that she'd be treated as a girl in a scientific/medical setting in TLOU1. Scientists and medical professionals don't have the best track record of affirming the gender of trans women. Or are you saying that Ellie's a trans man? That could be possible, but I wouldn't take Ellie's bodily traits in the trailer to be any indication.

So is everyone else who's basing their hype because of the first game. I'm basing my caution based on the first game.

It's the same thing. The first game and other ND games are all we have to go on right now.

She is growing up fighting for her life. She isn't going to have dainty fingers

I also don't think the world of TLOU leaves much room for gender transitions

PTSD?

Man i'm so pumped that Ellie is the main playable character. So good. Let's fuck shit up. :)

Getting a lot of arya stark vibes.

He was talking aboit how Joel sees her as an equal now and how they had to think about how they will show that when they are interacting in the game together.

That's why I don't want Joel to die (well, I preferably don't want him to die at all, but not too prematurely anyway!), because their dynamic will have changed so much from TLoU1, and it would be fantastic to see it unfold. I feel like a dead Joel just gives angst for Ellie, but if Joel's alive, that creates personal development and conflict opportunities for both characters. Having Joel accompany Ellie like a Bill-esque companion would be fun, too.

Ah, I can still hear the stomping of Bill's boots, now...

I was thinking possible alcohol addiction

I was wondering about that, it could be really interesting.

l support ND if that's the story they want to tell wtih Ellie, but my honest reaction is that she's just a scruffy, practical teenage girl in the apocalypse. I just think we're not used to seeing women in media with unstylzed brows, and chewed, short nails. I love how grown out her brows are, by the way.

I'm hoping a bow and arrow is Ellie's weapon of choice, it was noticeable how much better she was at using it over Joel in the first game.

I mean it would certainly be progressive and interesting, but you can't just choose to be truly transgender in a sense where you just will it to happen. She would need large amounts of hormonal therapy to make those sorts of changes. I feel like that sort of hormonal therapy is not something that will likely be readily available in the game's world.

That was my interpretation also.
Because didn't she kill people a bunch of people in the original game with her rifle and bricks? It's been a while since I played it. But I think the implications are she's done more than just killed someone

I'm not the only one that can't hear shit in that trailer right?

tattoos? bleh

edit so it's just the one not labeled 4k? You should just get rid of it it's crap.

About her hand shaking...

Maybe the infection mutated. Now she is able to use magic. That would be awesome.

I am kidding. Sort of.

Maybe you guys are right about the transgender thing. I was just really thrown off by her hands in the opening guitar tuning scene.

I mean if you're familiar with the extended sequence they did at the live performance they had a few years ago, where it's a little while after the end of the first game where there's clearly a division between the two characters:

Joel brings out his guitar and plays a song for Ellie about their journey together, and he is "clearly communicating how important she is to him," according to one report. Ellie warms to Joel, and he tells her a cringe-worthy pun that could've come from one of her joke books: "What's the downside of eating a clock? It's time-consuming." They laugh, and then Joel hands her his guitar and promises to teach her how to play, before leaving the room. Ellie strums one note on the guitar as the scene ends.

Neil more or less said it may or may not be canonical at the latest panel, so if Joel taught Ellie to play they might be back to a point in their relationship where they've moved past the events of the first game.

With all the Joel is dead theories I hope Elie at least killed him.

One thing I hope is that AI improves so that you can both spare people and have the enemy retreat happen more often. I really don't like going through an Area and having all the enemies fight to the death with minimal survival instinct. The infected should be fine like that, but people should have an active survival instinct.

I loved the ending of TLOU 1 way too much to have hope that a sequel can build off of it, but if anyone can do it, it's Naughty Dog.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

Joel and Ellie's story was done, they had their ending.
