The Last of Us Part II announced

Thoughts on trailer:

The reason her hand is shaking is the adrenaline pumping after she just killed everyone in that house. The fact that she whips out a guitar and starts playing with a dead body right in front of her shows that she has gone off the deep end. I think Joel was probably looking for her and fearing the worst, i.e. that she has probable gone to that house and killed everyone. When he walks into the house he knows exactly what has just happened.

That's the consensus, yes.

Thoughts on how the game might start and play out:

The intro to the game is Ellie going berserk and killing people left and right. She will seem like she is a completely different person than the Ellie from the first game. The player will be confused and will not understand how she has gotten to this point. As the violence dies down, the game will cut to a flash back to a few weeks or months after the first game. Everything will be as we remember. The sun is out, the birds chirping and Ellie is happy. The game will use these flashback to explain, step by step, how the happy Ellie transforms into the cold-blooded killer she is now.

Thoughts on my thoughts? :)

After UC4 I'm a bit skeptical of ND doing flashbacks in this way. It worked in Left Behind which was short but not a full game.

You're absolutely right on your thoughts of the trailer but I don't imagine they will structure the story in that way. Seems a bit too obvious.

Really hope they expand on the 3-way battles between you, infected, and human enemies that Left Behind introduced. Those were really great.

Ellie becoming a rather brutal killer isn't a stretch considering the events of Winter and her ability to kill others with Joel during her journey in the first game.

Ellie becoming Tess 2.0 isn't really a shock, and it isn't going to be the main point of the game, because it's a logical conclusion based on what she has been through. Her killing a house full of people, while traumatic and obviously going to get her adrenaline pumping, isn't a far cry from the events in Left Behind during the Winter.

Loved the trailer, it was great.

One of several great things about the humanity of the first game was how Ellie told her jokes from time to time.

Based on that trailer for Part II, I imagine she may not be in the mood for those jokes anymore :-P

Rewatched the trailer a few times now. I like watching the version with the crowd popping more lol.

The urge to replay Part l is real.

Sony has not given any release timings for TLOU Part II, Spider-Man, God of War, Detroit, Days Gone and Dreams. Same goes for 2nd/3rd party timed or full exclusives such as Death Stranding and FF7R.

Lots of unknowns.

Well, you can't delay that which has no release date lol.

I bought a PS4 for The Last of Us Remastered and it was well worth it, maybe I'll get a Pro for TLoU 2.

I think that Joel was thinking:"I raised a monster"
And the way he enters the house and walk through the hallway not even worried about what happened and all the bodies on the ground says that she's done this before.

I think the game will start with Joel, Tommy, Tommy's wife and kids, Ellie, and her girlfriend are sitting on a dinner table laughing and talking about watching a movie later. And suddenly, the fireflies come and kill everyone in their compound. I don't know how it will go but I'm thinking it will have the Game of Thrones Red Wedding feel. And they try to escape because they can't face all the fireflies but not everyone survives, Ellies girlfriend dies... flashforward the next day, Ellie goes on a raging killing spree wiping out fireflies safehouses.

If Joel is in fact alive and not a hallucination then I see us having to end him.

Joel gets bit or something along the lines and Ellie has to do it

It will be interesting to possibly the impact the lie he told her at the end of TLOU1.

Would she resent him for allowing the world to continue like this while her death can possibly save it? Would she resent him for making her continue to live on in the harsh world? And how would that conflict with the bond between the two of them?

Oh man, the possibilities.................................. So stoked on playing on as Ellie in TLOU2. I don't understand why there are many who are disappointed by the game focusing on those two, they have so many more stories to tell!

I think it is a lot of "I dont want to play as a female, joel was raw power what am I going to do now, women cant beat up men" mentality as well.

I look at this like the Godfather franchise now, part I was excellent, much like godfather part II could we see the lust for hate and revenge get the better of Ellie as she loses focus on other goals. I am so excited with the name and how this is being approached

That begs the questions as well no idea what the game story entails, unless the firefly logo at the beginning meant something that for some reason Ellie doesn't give a shit Joel lied, and is hunting the fireflies for some reason.

Unless much like David there is another faction out there that is just as brutal and instead of us being chased we are the ones doing the chasing

I watched the trailer over and over, so many times I lost count.
The animation, ambiance, camera work, might be the best trailer of the year.

I'm really looking forward to a Last of Us that which level-design isn't held back by the PS3. You really can tell where they made compromises. After UC4 I'm very optimistic.

Anyone else think there's a significance to the fact we don't see Joel's face? These kinds of details are always intentional.

I think the significance is the fact that the trailer would be "weaker" had they showed Joel's face.

From a storyboard perspective, the end-goal of this trailer was definitely to emphasis the "face reveal" of older Ellie and that is the highlight of the "bombast moment" in the trailer.

Face reveals are the best when it's singular and not plural. By having Joel's older face also be revealed in the same trailer, you diminish the impact that showing older Ellie only would have.

please dont fuck it up please dont fuck it up please dont fuck it up

by far my fav online game since socom II
Since we are getting ghost Joel, I would expect some supernatural elements brought to the MP. Thinking of something like a sidekick in Uncharted 4 where you call in a ghost buddy to revive people and possibly some mystic like additions.

The focus of the scene is on Ellie, not Joel. The trailer could also be conveying through its framing that Ellie is the main playable character of PART II.

So stoked on playing on as Ellie in TLOU2. I don't understand why there are many who are disappointed by the game focusing on those two, they have so many more stories to tell!

Obviously, a certain percentage of those complaining are the kind of people who have some problem playing as a girl. Which always struck me as weird. People talk about immersion in gaming, or identifying/relating to characters because they see a bit of themselves in the characters, but I never really understood that either.

I'm a 29 year old white male who could be described as slightly muscular. By that logic, that means I should be able to identify with around 90% of video game protagonists, right? No. I just like well written/realized characters, and Joel and Ellie are some of the few game characters you could actually say that about.

In a way, yes. I'm ever so slightly disappointed that they never took the opportunity to tell the story of different people in that universe, because pretty much all of the characters in the first game seemed worth exploring more. I guess it would've been nice to follow the story of some completely different people and maybe we'd find some cryptic hints in the game telling how Joel and Ellie lived on.

That said, I'm happy that we get another story involving Joel and Ellie, because like I said, I am a big fan of the two. I don't seem to hate Joel like most people do, because as a man with a wife (and a kid on the way), the first game made me think about what I'd do in his position. And to he honest, I'd pretty much do the same things he did. It's very easy to describe him as a monster, but none of us have ever been put in that position. I'd say he's selfish and weak, but not a monster.

And Ellie was such a great character, too. Can't wait to see where her character goes. Maybe people on forums will be describing her as a monster in a couple of years too.

I've been one of those who thought a sequel to TLoU would be a crying shame since that first game had the most perfect video game ending ever.
Also believed Joel and Ellie's story have been told and maybe a sequel should focus on new protags..

I was always wary about an inevitable sequel, but after this trailer I'm hungry to go back into this fucked up world.

I didn't realise how much I'd missed Ellie and Joel and hearing Neil at PSX talk about finding only the right story to tell after years of deliberation for these characters has me confident in the project.

The emphatic "Part II", subtitling of this also shows ND confidence in the title.
I'm hyped and ready to see where all this goes, as the game will focus on "hate" as said at the panel. Good luck to the team!

Everyone at ND is such a stickler for the tiniest of details.
It's never ceased to amaze from UC1 (when they went realisitc), the guys and girls there are a cut above the rest with this sort of thing.
