One thing people should also note before arguing is how hdr games look on more expensive sets.Yeah, worse blacks/contrast on an ips panel I understand. I've got the 49 inch (so ips) as a replacement for my old 43 inch Sony (which was a VA panel) and I've not noticed any obvious difference though.
Really pleased with the set in general. I paid £580 ish and for that price it's been better than expected. In game mode, once you get used to what looks initially like more washed out colours (tweaking some settings and then switching back to the settings I had it on makes me realise just how oversaturated and contrasty I had everything set to) it looks stunning. HDR content like Witness and Uncharted 4 looks unbelievable, 4k stuff looks phenomenal, upscaling is generally very good, everything has very natural colours and the contrasts etc have been fine for me.
In a really dark room blacks are obviously not the greatest, dirty screen effect is quite obvious in stuff like Witness when looking at solid colours like the sky and there is a tiny bit of light bleed in the bottom right corner - but for everyday use its absolutely acceptable, I don't notice any of this stuff.
People need to keep in mind the value of this TV, it's not going to be perfect. People also need to remember that in the real world they'll be hard pushed to see the difference in much of the technical stuff between panels.
As someone who owns both x800d and ks 8000 youre definitely exaggerating.
This tv lacks local dimming hence the greys. Thats that.
Washed out colors aren't caused by poor hdr its caused by poor settings. And yes even the weak blacks issue is eliminated to an extent with the settings.
Long story short. Want the best hdr? Get those lg oleds.mind you even those will be outdated color range wise in 2 years tops. Want something in reasonable gaming budget. Get this.
Ive played nearly every hdr game on ps4 and pro so far and the only game in which ill pick the 8000 over this re7. 8000 is still the better tv but the whole black thing is only a noticeable issue in re. Stuff like ffxv and ratchet look damn near identical
It's all subjective whether one person thinks greys for blacks is acceptable or not. I was surprised and disappointed, as it's not so grey in SDR.
It's a good all rounder TV for the cash - I've said that before but if your reason for purchase is HDR performance then people should be aware it's not great. I actually think HDR is a bit of an industry scam - it's easy to make a TV accept an HDR signal but not so easy to display one correctly. The Ultra HD Premium tag tries to address this problem but it's not widely accepted.
I can imagine RE7 being a problem, but it looks stunning in true HDR. FFXV and R&C looked OK because they're generally brighter games - driving around in FFXV at night though.....
I think we are generally in agreement here - black levels on this TV are poor and with HDR they are ramped way up and for dark scene games it looks poor. It's not fake HDR, but it's not Ultra HD Premium HDR by a very long way. This tv isnt doing fake hdr, it still has the panel to display those colors, unlike say ku6300 that has hdr in but simply lacls the colors to output it.peak bright ess is used for highlights and local dimming is used to keep blacks dark, which is where this tv falters . And i wouldnt call re7 stunning by any measure even on the ks8000. Hdr adds some color depth and brightens up the light sources. Hdr implementation in ffxv is way more noticeable and yes thats because its a brighter game, shouldnt that work to its credit?
One thing people should really address is that the default black levels of the tv are far too high.for me something around 30 to 35 works way better
I dont even think re7 is even intended to be stunningI think we are generally in agreement here - black levels on this TV are poor and with HDR they are ramped way up and for dark scene games it looks poor. It's not fake HDR, but it's not Ultra HD Premium HDR by a very long way.
RE7 on LG E6 HDR *is* stunning![]()

Except there has been not one single confirmation that games are outputting 10bit color
I know the peak brightness of this set is nothing like the higher end panels, but it's still pretty bright. Some scenes in Witness are bright enough to make me squint.
Just temper your expectations. It's a £600 ish TV, performance for the money is good.
If you go to the Picture Adjustments menu it should say HDR in the upper right corner once it's active. Is there any way of actually knowing whether you're getting HDR without assuming? Only played Nioh since getting the TV, and not sure if that even supports it. In the PS4 video output settings it says 'HDR - 2K/4K supported', does that mean that everything is fine?
Anyone got any tips for getting Steam working properly? Had to switch to Big Picture Mode since the scaling is a mess. If I turn DPI off it makes the UI miniscule, and if I leave it on it looks pixelated

I own a 55 inch X850D, and while it's a good TV, I think it will have a pretty short life in my living room. The core functionality is good, but the poor black levels are really starting to bother me. Watching a dark movie while all the lights are off really show how it's all just really dark grey (and I've calibrated the fuck out of this thing). This is especially noticeable in HDR, where the brightness is cranked.
I'm not super disappointed, as I know what I was getting with my budget, but I think in a couple years once OLED drop to more reasonable prices this thing will be sold.

These are my settings
Came into this thread to report the exact same thing. Here's my set-up:
- 49XD80
- PS4 Pro connected to HDMI 2
- Sony HT-XT3 receiver on HDMI 3/ARC
It's a relatively uncommon issue and only seems to happy a couple of times per day under quite heavy use, so I'm not sure if there's anything in particular that I'm doing that might cause this. The remotes for the TV and the receiver are on a table in front of me usually, so it's not that I'm sitting on them or something. I usually get it when I'm playing Final Fantasy XIV, which doesn't have 4K/HDR support.
I do have a couple of other devices connected, but they're usually turned off completely (i.e. not on standby) - a Mac Mini connected by HDMI that usually gets used as a server now and another PS4.
It didn't occur to me to try replacing the HDMI cable, so I guess I'll switch the cables around and see if that helps. (BTW, I saw this but I'm pretty sure I am using the cable that came with the Pro.)
Can anyone tell me if this TV
Is the same as this TV
The second one (the Amazon link) is the one I think the OP is about, but I have no idea if the TV in the top link is the same model only a diff colour (which is what I'm lead the believe the numbers on the end mean)
The way they name TV's is so stupid
No, the John Lewis is the XD70 series which is just an 8bit panel http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/ec7b632 the Amazon is the 10bit panel XD80
This is the John Lewis link for them, same price as Amazon, but obviously better returns/customer service. http://www.johnlewis.com/sony-bravi...lour=Silver&navAction=jump&_requestid=6750429
Ah I see, thanks. I just thought the numbers at the end only indicated the colour
So the first link TV is not that great?
I hate how they name TV's, it's so confusing
I guess I'll wait on the other one to drop to around £600 then :/
The first one won't display true HDR due to the panel no, probably better holding out for a 10bit panel if you can
Last two digits are the colour, it seems to be screensize (first 2) model (next 4) colour (last two) something with lettering for colours too!
Yes, if you mean like a black flicker every 30secs or so. I guess it's just some sort of deep sleep symptome. Don't think the TV is really off at any point if it's plugged into the wall.Does anyone's monitors constantly go dark when you have this TV connected to your PC, but it is powered off? Turning on the TV fixes it so I'm wondering what the issue is.
I think this feature is exclusive to the mobile Netflix app (i.e. on iPad and iPhone). It's not present in the AndroidTV version at the very least.Does the Netflix app on X800D supports saving films/TV episodes into local storage [offline viewing function], and can that storage be extended with USB sticks? I don't have large bandwidth for comfortable viewing of 4K HDR content.
Alternativley, can PS4 Pro Netflix app do the same [and can it reproduce HDR content]?
So... I got the 49 inch model of this, hooked it up to the ps4 pro, followed the instructions in the op and when I got to video output information it says
resolution - 3840 x 2160 - 60hz
color format - YUV420
HDR on your TV - not supported
HDCP 1.4
So obviously I know very little about tv's, have used monitors for years - think the last tv I owned was about 10 years ago - but did I fail to do some research here? wrong.. serial number or something? Or is there something screwed up in settings?
Anyone taking the time to respond, thanks in advance.

Okay. Found my pro Hdmi cord and hdr works through the TV. Uncharted 4 looks godlike. Still nothing through the sound receiver so I'm assuming I need a new receiver for hdr.
Went to Frys and checked out other 4K HDR sets, and looking at the prices compared to the picture quality, I'm hella glad I went with this cheaper and still very high value option.
The other ones just don't look nearly enough better to spend another $1000 or $2000 for a larger and higher spec set.
The only time I'm going to be upgrading now is when the Sony A1E comes. I will splurge for that for a large one likely (price permitting of course) and put this TV in my bedroom. OLED is just that good, my Vita has better contrast ratio than all my other displays.
If I can clear a 70+ inch for less than $2000 or $2500 of the A1E I will likely bite.
You may have to connect the PS4 to a particular input and also enable a setting to have HDR actually running on the TV. Check your settings and manual.
The HDMI 2.0 spec can't handle 4K 60 hz @ RGB. YUV 420 is what you want if HDR is on. If HDR is off you can do RGB at 4K 60 hz.
im still getting audio cutout.
was playing on the 360 yesterday - hdmi 1, forza 4 - and the audio cutout for a couple seconds.
really annoying.
dont know if its the tv buggered or what.
So on HDMI 4 I was not able to do 1440p, but was able to create a custom resolution on hdmi 3, and then I was able to do the same on hdmi 4 (previously I got no signal making a 1440p resolution).
It now works full RGB 8-bit 1440p on hdmi 4, previously I had to run 4k limited.
It seems like hdr works on hdmi 4 as well.
Hi guys
I'm moving to the city at the end of the month and I'm looking into TVs! You'll have to forgive me for not wanting to scour the 50+ pages of this thread, but I'm curious how people are feeling about the X800D these days. Are there better TVs around the same price range now, or is this still the best option for the price?
Love,
oneida
Use HDMI 2 or 3
HDMI port 1 and 4 will not allow 4k/60hz w/HDR at full 4k
Is there a better price for this in the UK than £699 anywhere atm?
Amazon have it down at £622 used in various conditions here https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01IF521AI/
But obviously paying £699 at somewhere like John Lewis would get you a 5 year warranty too.
always a better tv, whats your budget and size you are looking for? At 43" this is the best there is - no question. At 49, I personally like value/PQ of the KS8000.
Yeah I'm just kicking myself for missing out when it was £570 and £629 new
What is the UK code for this model?
The UK equivalent of the US KS8000 is the KS7000...
