Omg...now I'm afraid what might happen at E3. You know how people will react negatively to this.
If it's taking a while then it has to be 3D DK. I don't know what else is DK related Nintendo has. Diddy Kong Racing? That wouldn't take so long to make.
Not to be rude in any way, but who cares how people react at E3 to anything? Perhaps only insofar as it might spell problems for Nintendo, but, surely the games already announced for this year will be significant enough sales drivers to offset a couple gaffes?
I don't think it is necessarily true that taking a while means it has to be 3D DK. DKC: TF took a few years for example. Diddy Kong Racing could take just as long as a 3D DK, as could a 2D game, depending what happens in development. Mario Kart for example takes some years to make. Plus, there are any number of theoretical DK-adjacent games possible. Though, I would sort of assume based on their wording that the poster meant a mainline DK game, so probably 2D DK, though possibly 3D.
... open world Diddy Kong Racing maybe? Nintendo finally putting out a GTA style game with Diddy Kong?
Also this. Especially about Retro, I can't remember the last time someone had an accurate rumor about them.
Whoa, that would be... strange. I just want a DKR. I don't think the hub should be too big, but, maybe I am just burned out on the size of a game like BOTW. I guess I want it however they want to make it, provided it is not a bizarre violent take on DKR, though I'm sure that's not what you meant. I think a mix of 3D platforming and racing would be a wonderful blend of DKR and a 3D take on DK. You could even have some 2D levels in there. Just make it the "best of all worlds" DK game. Now I am salivating.
They'll be fine if Reggie's comment holds true and they decide to reveal a new Metroid title at E3. If not.....well. Also if nothing by Retro is shown at the event then people would definitely be antsy.
Yeah I'm not putting stock into this, as
all know even if an "insider" has a somewhat good track record they could still be wrong, extreme at times as well.
Either way it serves as a good checklist or bingo card.
Yeah they are a gaffer. Leaked a couple things related to Xbox related things.
FWIW, all Reggie indicated was that a year from ... early this year? when did he say this, February maybe? that at that point, to revisit the question regarding requested projects like Metroid. So it may be announced at E3 or it may be after E3 and later in the year. Though, I agree people will be very antsy if nothing is shown by Retro at E3 (I imagine something surely will be) or if say Retro announces something non-Metroid that doesn't have a Western game feel to it and Metroid isn't announced there either.
I don't mind if Retro's next project is Donkey Kong-related as long as it's not a side-scroller. I'll be happy with a 3D platformer or even better a sequel to DKR.
A DKR sequel would make me very pleased as well.
I expect Retro and Metroid at E3. I was going to ask you what has this EvB person leaked in the past because I don't know their credentials.
Do you expect them together, though? I think it's entirely possible Metroid will be developed by a different party, perhaps NLG or internally.
I'm dying to know what Retro has been working on for 3 years now!
For all the leaks Nintendo keeps failing to stop from happening the one leak I'm most excited to know about is the one they've kept secure the most; Retro Studio's next game.
My brain says it's a new IP and my heart says its a new 3D Metroid. But it'll probably be neither and we'll get a DKCR3 instead
You made a typo here and it's my duty as a fellow GAFer to point it out. You typed a frowny face when you meant a smiley one. It is easy to do when the parenthetical keys are next to each other.
I guess he also accidentally leaked that David Wise was going to be in Snake Pass. I'm not really familiar with this guy compare to someone like shinobi.
If a new Metroid is announced at it's not a traditional 2D one but a 3D I'm think that Nintendo would likely outsource it to another developer. Unless it is a super secret project that their team in Japan is working on.
I agree a 3D Metroid would be less likely to be internally developed by NCL. I do think a 2D one could be outsourced to Retro or NLG, or be internally developed. Since NCL has never solely made a 3D Metroid I wonder if it could be a collaboration with Platinum coming off of their work together on SF0.
I want a new Retro's DK game and a collection with 2 previous titles. E3 here we go!
A collection would be great. Too many people missed out on TF. Plus, it would be nice to have an option to play DKCR in 60 fps with non-motion controls on a Nintendo console.
Thinking about EvB's quote again it could be something as simple as a DKC Returns/TF Switch port. Which wouldn't be the game they've been working on for 3 years but more of a side project.
Hmm, I hadn't thought of that. If it's a port, though, why have Retro do it directly? Seems like a job for Tantalus (I'd have said Monster Games but it seems they're not working with Nintendo at the moment). I see your point, though. (Though I still get the "sense" from that poster that they meant a new, mainline game. But I realize that's speculation on my part.)
I could still see Retro having 2 games in the pipeline, think about it, DKC:TF was finished in 2013, that's 4 years ago now.
Let's say they got straight to work on the 3rd DKC game which could have been completed at some point early last year, they could have a separate smaller team go off and begin work on another project (MP4 lets say) around 2015 and dev time ramped up last year.
It's certainly possible right, they are big enough and a DKC game isn't too taxing for them like a big 3D would be
I think you're right that it's entirely possible, though I think if there are two projects a port being one of them is likelier unfortunately (IMO, just armchair quarterbacking here) than both being new games. In the past IIRC Retro has been said to have the capacity to do two projects but I was under the impression that has only come to fruition as of yet insofar as they worked on DKC while assisting on MK. I could be mistaken though, perhaps the comments about them working on two projects only came after that collaboration occurred. I did think those comments were about two fully fledged projects though if it was from someone at NCL those kinds of nuances can be lost in translation easily. Hmm, I guess I am just trying not to get my hopes up too much here that they could be working on two full projects. About DK though, I agree a 3D game (be it Metroid or DK or something else) would likely take more development time than 2D - especially come to think of it since they have the 2D DK HD engine all set and realistic fur tech and the like - but as I mentioned above, unusual bumps in the road or longer project times can occur in any kind of game development so my impression is that a 2D platformer could end up taking as long as any kind of game. It's fun to speculate about this stuff... I'm very curious what they are working on. Could be entirely a new IP as at least one of their projects. (I really want that rumored
B-listers-focused DKR sequel, though!)
