How long ago did tickets become a thing? Has there even been 40 games since it began? I think the only one I got was with Astebreed and before that I bought Curses N Chaos which didn't get me a ticket.

So confusing. Where is this 40 number coming from anyway? I don't think theyve said that on twitter unless I missed it.

I've bought every single release and variant and have 19 tickets total.

"Big announcement coming today!" according to Twitter.

I know it's delayed, but it could be one of a few things really. Windjammers was teased on Dotemu's Twitter (as in 'news coming', not a specific tease for physical release); VA-11 HALL-A is in submission and that's been heavily hinted at a number of times.

The recently revealed Factotum 90 has also been hinting at a physical release on Poppy Work's Twitter, so could be that too.

Plenty of cool things coming.

Picture from newsletter would imply it may be Wonderboy Dragon's Trap.

Bracing for Master System variant cover for 40 tickets.

Yeah, I'm salty as hell. Alternative covers used to be reversible a year ago. Now we need to pay more, jump through conference hoops, and collect tickets.

No one else sees an issue here?

Ok so the 40 number is some made up bullshit then. Thanks for clarifying. I've bought something like 8 LRG releases so far (sticking to the ones that I know I'd actually play) but I was pretty certain they haven't even shipped 40 tickets yet.

Well, it will be 22 once Dariusburst plus the two Novas arrive.

I suppose one could have 40 tickets by now if they were buying two copies of every single release :/

There was no limit for Silver Case, or when they removed the limit for Nova.

I seem to recall a decent amount of people, myself included, who bashed the ticket values and selections when announced. Not sure what else needs to be said that wasn't back then

Made up, huh? I think obtaining the Yellow variant is reserved for the extreme collectors.

EDIT: I am curious whether LRG will hand out the reward variant randomly in the initial orders.

If buying literally every single release since the very first one doesn't qualify someone as an extreme collector, I don't know what to say.

The description on the site made it sound like the "special variant covers" would be just covers to me, and so nowhere near 40 tickets. That makes much more sense.

There's only two sets of people that can have 40 right now: Scalpers and people who buy TWO of every single variant release. I don't see how that's reasonable.

Who was the first person to mention 40 anyway? Where did this come from? It seems like people just got it from somewhere and ran with it out of hysteria.

When has any LRG policy been reasonable? They refuse to do preorders, goddamn shopify as a storefront, and do low quantity runs of high demand games. Its getting to a point where iam8bit is a better shopping experience, and thats a low bar as it is.

It's a business model with its advantages and drawbacks, including the limited numbers and lack of pre-orders. I get all of that.

What I don't get is telling a loyal customer since day one "you can't have that". Because of a... loyalty program!

As usual I'm ranting, though, so I'll stop here.

Do we have to enter tickets during the fire sale, or can we do it other times?

No way I'm entering all those ticket numbers while shit's going down.

To be fair, the good news is that at least the Red/Blue covers will be reversible, so there's no need to buy both if you just want to have both covers (me!)

Has anyone received their Darius yet? Label was printed 5/2 but still no update on USPS site.
Just received my copy today as someone on the East Coast. It arrived in a large white box with the game covered in bubble wrap and lightly taped to keep it from coming off. Pristine condition from what I can observe!

My DB:LE is scheduled to arrive today. I noticed shipping was upgraded to Priority Mail. Nice of them to do that and not charge extra.

I'm a stark defender of LRG, but even I find that 40 Ticket BS for a variant to be gross. This 100% seems to reward scalpers and nothing more. I assumed it would be a reward for just the insert, which I was cool with. This is an awful set up.

I've bought every release since they introduced the tickets (including variant covers) and right now I'm only sitting on 10 tickets (although 9 of my games are still sitting in the LRG office including Volume which I'm not sure was around the time they were introduced or not?).

LRG must surely be planning on holding onto the stock of those for a while given pretty much no-one will have that many tickets yet - we also have to post them out which is going to be a nightmare for those of us not in the US if numbers are quite low and a lot of people accumulate 40 tickets around the same time.

Batteries the CRISIS!
I think it's pretty clear that the variant Night Traps aren't intended to be ordered immediately, considering no one will have 40 tickets until close to the end of this year, even if someone buys every game possible.

Their experience with pre orders didnt turn out so well since they tried with Skullgirls and people are just complaining about the wait and try to get refunds, which ruins it

We've done preorders, iam8bit uses Shopify too, and we set run numbers with the developer's input (we printed 2,800 more copies of DARIUSBURST than the devs initially wanted).

To be 100% clear - there is NO better e-commerce platform than Shopify. It is the best. There isn't a perfect solution to inventory management with hot, limited items. Shopify used to have a cart hold and that carried a whole slew of problems. The cart system they have in place now is leaps and bounds better. But for the record, iam8bit and Fangamer both use Shopify. The "shopping experience" is better there because less people are fighting to buy that stuff. It'd be just as bad as ours if they had the same level of demand because they're using the exact same platform.

Pre-orders are fine if you're clear when the product ships.

Not really, if something comes up during manufacturing (which is very common) and we have to delay something by a few weeks it becomes a customer service nightmare. To some people, even a week delay is enough of a reason to start demanding a refund and opening PayPal disputes.

I just want to say again, as I'm pretty sure I've posted this here before - Skullgirls was set to be 10,000 copies for PS4. We only sold 7,500 on preorder. I have full confidence that had we gone our traditional route, those 10,000 units would have sold out. If you don't believe that we were going to do 10K Skullgirls, go back and look at our Game Informer article - we were talking about Skullgirls.

Finally, and I know I've said this about a billion times - if we had done Breach & Clear on a preorder basis, no one would have bought it. The game didn't review that well and had only sold a handful of copies digitally. There's no way we would have even hit Sony's minimum order quantity. The model we have allows smaller, obscure games the opportunity to exist physically. A preorder model would likely not shift enough units to allow some of these games to be a thing. As much as it sucks to say, we need the speculators and resellers to help shift enough units to hit the minimum order quantities with Sony. Those guys don't show up for preorders.

You could argue that we should just do preorders for the popular games, but again I'll point to Skullgirls where we actually sold significantly less than we were going to print. We have literally no reason to believe that moving to preorders would do any favors for us or the developers we work with.

We will continue to do preorders on PC, though, because we can literally print only 10 of those if that is how many sell. We'd have a huge mess on our hands if we put a PlayStation game up for presale and it didn't sell enough to meet the minimums with Sony. I can't even imagine how terrible that would be.

Question about the tickets, and my apologies if this has been asked and answered before: I've only started receiving physical tickets with my last couple of orders (I don't order everything). Do I have more virtual tickets somewhere else?

Can they be used for anything else besides getting variant boxes?

BTW, I think it's cool that LRG is including them now. They don't have to do that - everyone would still buy the games regardless - so this is a nice bonus.

I think if anything, the best solution is to up the numbers that will be allocated to the printing. Darius showed that yes, people WILL pay more for the big titles. Ys... I'm confident will end up getting a bigger print run and yes, sell out completely and quickly.

I've made my own worries and concerns, but I understand more with the more info you guys give. As someone in business who understands a lot of these things, it makes sense with a lot of these test runs and uncertainties that are made.

We started them with Aqua Kitty in January so there isn't any back credit for previous stuff. We have an order form on our site that lists the rewards. Currently, you can redeem for an exclusive sticker, keychain, extra art assets, soundtracks, or a free game. Nothing is official regarding Night Trap yet.

Wow, quick reply! You guys are awesome!!! I'll probably save my tickets for the free game, although it will probably be a long while before I get there.
