A good chance of a new trailer at TGA tomorrow. But going to hold firm and not watch it. :messenger_sunglasses:

Is what I've told myself :messenger_hushed:

Any confirmation or just speculation? The only thing I want to see is the Tiny Broco or ocean traversal.

Alot of these are normally speculation otherwise we would have heard about a confirmed trailer by now. If one exists here at TGA it will be one of the 'surprise' updates we get from existing announcements.

Personally I don't see any other big stage in the next two months where Square can make a major pull on views. So tomorrow may very well be one of the last chances to showcase the game to the masses.

As someone who's been playing FF since 4 in 1992, I also felt like I "needed" to play FF16. I regret that. I could only stomach 15 hours or so. Seriously man, do yourself a favor.

I adore Remake so much, and by all means Rebirth looks even better due to more more and more. More characters to pick your party of, more materia and more summons for battle strategy, and much more exploration/open world map, and more minigames and just more more more!

I'm excited for Rebirth!

FFXVI, it cracks me up to read impressions like "just started this game and it's amazing! Combat is so fun! I hated how boring the sidequests were in Remake and how repetitive it was." I'm like, heh, just you wait buddy, FFXVI is 100x worse than Remake for boring fetch quests and repetition. There's not even exploration or other party members or much of anything. I know some people really enjoyed the story, and it has its moments, but damn if the game isn't gutted to the bone when it comes to gameplay elements. It's missing almost everything you could think of from it.

Geoff on chatting stream also said that there would be Japanese studios and, separately, updates on existing franchises so Rebirth seems like a good bet. Plus, he seems to have good relations with SE and thanked Nomura in particular for the SGF trailer...

I don't want to watch though... spoilers...

Sometimes I get annoyed when Square Enix games don't go on sale.

I just went to a key site to get a 40% discount on Live A Live.

Screw you, Square Enix. You are as bad as Nintendo.

100x

FFXVII R is a masterpiece compared to FFXVI. It has much more character, and a better level design. Its not that level design of FFVII R was even good, but at least there was some verticality and some hidden treasures. You also control and manage your full party. FFVII rewarded good materia setups, and you could actually make some builds. And on default difficulty it was far more challenging. Side quests in FFVII weren't anything unforgettable, but there were only like 20 ish in total, and they were spread out over a few more free roam chapters. None of them went so low as FFXVI's MMO tier talk quests.

Rebirth _seems_ to fix the problems FFVII R had, it has different locations, more exploration and moves the story forward at a better pace (we know it starts from Kalm to at least Forgotten City, which is a good chunk of the original script and arguably the best part of the original game). This game will no doubt have its issues as well, but I can't imagine this being worse than its prequel and FFXVI.

Huh? They have semi-regular sales on the Nintendo eshop...not sure about their PC games though

I went ahead and ordered Dragon Quest X Offline for the Switch on Play Asia.

It is in Japanese. I am going to try Google Translate on it.

I am temped to get the rom, but Nintendo might go after me.

Yup for now I shan't watch. I'll perhaps read a few impressions though. 👀

That makes it sound really far away😐

How do you guys think this will be received critically and commercially?

It looks amazing to me but I'm a biased fanboy.

The open world surely gives it some kind of advantage over previous FFs. It's interesting in that it seems to be the first JRPG to truly scale up to an open world. The traversal seems to have Metroidvainia like quality to it.

Obviously if it can get a 90+ metacritic that will turn heads.

On the other hand FF remake sold okay but wasn't a break out hit. The youtube view metrics seem to be pretty average so far.

When they say it like that, sounds like it's just a week away..! 💀

Once we get into the new year the release will come quickly.

Hmmm in my opinion JRPGs are often reviewed harshly for some reason. So I take less note of the review scores with them. They're huge games, many 2, 3 or 4 times longer than other games, so of course they're rarely going to be flawless from start to finish. I think reviewers never consider this with them and can be unreasonable.

If I remember some of the main complaints around Remake part 1 were....

-Linearity: Rebirth looks huge even if the map design is still structured like a JRPG. You can see far more environmental interactivity (swimming, jumping, climbing, driving, flying etc...), so I think this complaint will be well and truly addressed. There's so much environmental variety in the footage its nuts.

-Graphical inconsistency: this was partly down to the PS4 limitations and texture streaming, so this should improve here. However, as its a huge looking game there will still be some dodgy textures and low poly NPCs. But again not something that bothers me at all. The visual style for part 1 and the artistic/graphical techniques are top notch.

-Side content: they're saying up to 100 hours of content here and I'm guessing the main scenario will be big, probably 40-50 hours like XVI, the mini-games also looks fun and there's a lot. So I hope they don't knock the score down if there's some fetch quests mixed in. Spiderman, God of War and other games with over 90+ scores are filled with fetch quests, yet they get a pass.

-Padding: In my opinon part 1 had examples of good padding (Avalanche etc..) and also terrible padding (Sewers etc..). I think Rebirth will obviously pad out locations and certain story scenarios as it's a modern 3d presentation with cutscenes vs polygon blocks running on pictures with dialogue boxes. Hopefully the way they flesh it out is more on the satisfying side most of the time.

I'm not going to guess the score, but I think if they improve on these 4 areas then it should score higher than part 1 at least.

Not entirely sure why this sentiment exists but VII Remake's 7M is quite good for a single title and averages just fine among the franchise if you take a look. Square Enix was absolutely happy with it

The structure is what excites me the most about this. I really like that the open areas seem huge but are gated like elden ring was.

I think this will give the game a really good feeling of going on grand adventure. Not many games give this feeling especially go anywhere do anything open world games. I feel like a delivery boy in those games and having access to the entire map at the start can make them feel small.

I think it will be really cool progressing through and seeing all these iconic locations. I can't wait to the Gold Saucer far off on the horizon!

I'm a little annoyed that you can fast travel to previous locations. I've crossed the ocean dammit that should have consequences!

Well 7 million is still good but it's not massive by todays standards. There certainly seem to be some people at Square that want FF to be a break out hit again like 15 to 20 million copies etc

its okay, but people want FF to be a one of the big games up there in sales with atleast first party games

One of my fav things in JRPGs is to return to old locations to listen to the new NPC chatter, so that's a bonus for me.

Over 7mil at the last update, but also they gave the game away for free less than a year after release and its still free on PS+ in every region, both the PS4 and PS5. Presuambly they got a nice cheque from Sony for this. So really its hard to guage how much it would have sold without this, but obviously a lot higher. More will pick up part 1 when Rebirth is out and for the final part as well.

I do too but that's what the airship is for later in the story! The issue for me is the teleporting fast travel just for the convenience of the player. It's too Immersion breaking for me at least make it a late game ability.

I see, you mean in general. It would be nice, but it doesn't seem like JRPG's sell like that unless there's some strings attached. Whether it's Elden Ring & GRRM, or Nintendo's handling. With even the OG FF7 crossing 14M only recently, I just take whatever Square is happy with.

Should I wait till PS5 pro releases to play this? How is Square's support for pro consoles? Do they quickly patch their old games to run or play better on pro consoles?

Part 1 on PS5 is really great. Native 4K 2160p at solid 30fps. 1512p upscaled to 4k at a solid 60fps with no graphical compromises. Much improved visually from the PS4 version.

So for Rebirth if they can pull off a similar feat (probably lower res though given the larger environments) then the base PS5 version would be solid.

It has an actual 60fps mode that runs at 60fps, so that's all that matters IMO. The game looks great, supposedly the PS5-only Yuffie DLC which ran perfectly is a good indication of what to expect, and I don't think a PS5 Pro will do all that much more for this game, at least Remake + DLC. I expect the performance of Rebirth to be similar to the DLC, but we'll see!

I think some of the TGS demos (which I haven't watched) were running at 60fps.

I think its a long shot for them to hit the heights of part 1 version running on PS5 in Rebirth with the larger more complex environments to render but still expecting it to run great, both quality and performance modes as they have a lot of knowledge with this engine. Unlike XVI which was a new internal engine and delivered a great quality mode but poor performance mode. I hope they can include a 120hz/40fps version at launch as a middleground.

I think about this game every day.
For it's this game and Unicorn Overlord…………also Metaphor, GB Relink and Elden Ring DLC………where the FUCK is my Elden Ring DLC trailer?…..I was told it will be there at TGA….they fucking lied to me!?….lie…to.. ME!!!

For me it's just this. Dogma and Tekken are both big deals but I don't think about them literally every day. 😓

I have no doubts this will be the first real GOTY contender of 2024 and no doubts it will ultimately finish in my top 3 games of 2024, I can't fucking wait, Final Fantasy for life ⚔️

This and Metaphor are my two hype games. Also looking forward to Persona 3 Reload, Like A Dragon Infinite wealth and Stellar Blade.

Got my eyes on Dragons Dogma, Rise of Ronin, Granblue and 1 or 2 others which I'll pick up when I have some downtime after Spring.

They'd be better of releasing the Elden Ring DLC in Summer with Spring being so packed!
