Dragon Age: The Veilguard lets you choose top surgery scars in character creator

I get it, 'representation'. But, it's just fucking creepy. It's a mental illness that has mutated into a fashion statement, and shoving it in video games is just really weird and fucked up.

Isn't the whole point to be a fantasy game and pretend to play something you're not?
Why do they need to bring real world shit in to it. You want to play a dude? Play a dude.

Also this explains a lot.

This is a fair take. If there was a genre that had any business allowing you to play whatever race and gender you want, it's RPGs.

Although to be fair, you could take that "fantasy" argument into a different direction. Because it is kinda funny that in a setting where all kinds of different schools of magic exist, people still gotta be put under the knife to transition. This is a setting where shape shifting, blood magic, and necromancy exists among other things. So you could easily make an argument that Top Surgery Scars do break immersion.

Is it a big deal? No I think it's a small stupid thing. But it's a thing that just comes across as clumsy pandering to a tiny minority crowd.

Holy shit, this thread became a spicy meatball.

It's so rare to see mod text in a post here that I forget the mods actually mod sometimes. You guys like summoned the Dragon twice. Big ups. Major mana.

Uh...all the people who are like "this doesn't have anything to do with trans ideologies, you're stretchiiinggg," like...you guys are the people who are going to get scammed out of your entire life savings over with the phone with a guy in India when you're an elderly person. This is like dead body, dude next to it with a smoking gun levels of no duh.

It's not a big deal, sure. It's easy to ignore, sure. We weren't going to play it, anyway. Sure. Wait-

If it didn't have a bunch of pandering and modern day escapism sponges in the form of contemporary social fads that will age like milk in relevance as time goes on - we might have given it a go. Maybe some of us were big fans before waiting years and years only to be met with Fable ass Shrek looking plastic characters in a stage based game where you can see your titty scars if you manage to see fucking anything through the purple wall of constant particle effects on screen. And maybe those feeling excluded for those reasons are angry.

Or like me, and have never played DA but think the entire thing is fucking clown-on-pony hilarious.

I don't get why this upsets anyone.
It's the message. DEI/Self inserts/virtue signal above lore and story.

Shows the developer's intentions, priorities and standards. Gives you an idea how the rest of the game will feel.

I'm not really upset though because i know this game will bomb.

And while that's likely trans coded, quite an appreciable number of women undergo mastectomy to fight breast cancer. A friend had one some years ago…sadly still passed away when the cancer came back.
My condolences but....

...what does that have to do with video games?

Why would you want that experience being reminded to you by a fantasy video game?

Why is this even a thing in video games? There is no purpose behind it other than pandering to a very vocal minority.

I genuinely hope the game bombs as a result of this.

Stop the "activism" in video games. I don't care if the writers or Devs in the games I play are trans. I just don't want to see my video games riddled with utter banality.

Seriously. I had a stroke in 2017, I'm not petitioning for characters in games who have half their body numbed out. No, that's me. I turn on the console to be not me. Someone stronger, better looking, with skills I don't know in a world I don't live in. It's a fantasy, with all due respect, I want to go through caverns and dark forests, not hear about your breast cancer or floating gender.

Jaffe is mad at us bros

If you've upset Jaffe, you've probably done something right. He shipped one good game 19 years ago and acts like some kind of moral authority for all-time. One of the most completely disappointing "famous" developer stories the industry's ever had.

Fair point, and others are exactly opposite - they want their entertainment to mirror real life and deal with real life issues.
If the scar thing is true someone probably thought of it like: "we have non binary characters, we might even have a trans character, so then we have transitioning, right? So we have potential surgery".

Next up: hormone replacement potion.

Broooo…I swear to fucking God, I have family members that have said the exact term to me while dealing with cancer surgery. You are a fucking douche bro, and I hope you go tf away. Dirt bag.

It could just be a generational thing. My mom had a bilateral mastectomy in the late 80s thanks to breast cancer and the only time I've heard reference to top or bottom surgeries is related to folks who are transitioning. Thankfully that's the only time my family has had to do will that. Language changes over time so it very well may be common parlance of our current time when talking about mastectomies.

In a game where you can transform into a spider or a dragon....

Breast surgery is out of my spiritual knowledge. Just not enough MP I guess.

Ya know… just on a side note. I'll never understand why people like character creators so much. To me, they are really irritating.

Where's the, "it doesn't matter because it doesn't affect your enjoyment of the game" crowd?

Slowly but surely. One step at a time they destroy it. One pronoun there, another gender erasure there, and then they get rid of attractive women, straight people become a minority, and it just keeps going.

Exactly. They can transform so why the fuck would anyone have breast surgery when they can get a nice pair of tits without one scar?

End of the road for Bioware.

Hopefully there is still developers who cares about gamers and money and not this sweet baby inc people.

Personally I am tired of the DEI nonsense and pandering shit. Note that I consider this different from actual inclusivity and equality.

I am tired of seeing it everywhere now days, work, entertainment including movies and games, politics (not that extreme right is better) and so on.

I am really tired of shit like this game and others crapping all over great past franchises. That's especially the case with Disney.

I just want to relax and play a game or watch a movie. I don't want to be preached to.

I've never heard a women refer to her chest as "top" or "top surgery scars" with reference to a mastectomy. I've only seen that terminology used by trans people. However, perhaps over time, that expression is being used more in hospitals and other medical environments - especially since mastectomies are now performed for reasons other than cancer or risk of cancer.

Honestly don't care. Some people will be happy and use it. And some will not use it and it changes nothing.

Anyway the game doesn't look that exciting. They have bigger problem to make it successful.

Didn't really expect anything less from BioWare. The good news is that pre-sales for the game are terrible. We can only hope the studio shuts down before they sully the Mass Effect franchise yet again.

In ancient age who didn't do breast surgery?

Isn't there any spell to decrease breast dimension?

Anyway the game seems to be good and that's the only important thing

If the game sells like gang busters, do we file the game under the "ignore list" when talking about go woke go broke?
I mean BG3 and Hogwarts were fairly "woke" and were great games.

And of course Spider-Man 2 and Last of Us 2 were woke and sold very well. Although personally I am not a fan of these two games.
