Dragon Age: The Veilguard lets you choose top surgery scars in character creator

CLja5yT.png

I'm tired, boss.

All up for more options. Looks like a great creator, it even has bulge size, glutes size… I welcome all options including top surgery. If having that option bothers you, you have a problem.

The only negative is underwear selection. Only 3 very puritan choices.

I had completely written this game off until I saw that Luke Stephens had given it a good impression.

I barely noticed when they started making the women's faces more "distinctive" and their bodies more narrow/flat but that's hard to unsee once you understand why it's being done.
Could you explain to me like I'm 5 why it's being done? I don't get it. What's the endgame plan here? Erasing femininity? Only male characters or characters gone through female to male transitions?

It's such a silly, out of place for this game, and very specific thing to put in the character creator.

If it's not some inside joke or some idiot's idea to troll social media, then I'd like to have been in the meeting where they collectively decided that yes, the character creator lacked this very specific nonsense and absolutely nothing else to be complete. It would be an interesting study on what derangement on a group level looks like.

It seemed like I got a warning message in my account about not posting about politics almost immediately after posting that. I edited that out 19 minutes before you commented on it. I went looking around to see what other people were being banned for and it looks like political commentary like that.

They remove skin from the forearm to create the "penis". AKA "frankenpenis.

I hate that I am forced to read about these abhorrent procedures because I like playing videogames. It's unreal how deep this movement has penetrated the industry.

I don't want to know this. Any of this. All the body mutilation, the insanity. It's not good for the soul.

In 100 years we will look back on all this in absolute horror that we allowed this to happen on such a scale, like we do now with lobotomies and bloodletting.

Ah okay I'm a slow poster no native english here

Easily ignored character creation toggle, but kind of ridiculous to include in a medieval fantasy game. There is no such thing as trans top surgery without modern medical science, so it's not a sensible extension of the game lore at all. The game director is a trans woman though, so I suppose that supersedes any other considerations.
In this game you will get cut by hundreds of swords, axes, pikes, daggers, will be impaled, chewed, crushed… in this high fantasy world of magic and monsters it would not surprise me if someone wanted to get rid of her breasts and asked their paladin friend to slice them out and cauterise the wound. Sounds pretty bad ass tbh

🤷‍♀️ There's absolutely nothing badass about this game and your headcanon will not be reflected in the actual product. But if this is the game you're looking for, I'm happy for you.

This is beyond fucked up.

The one moment I remembered was a sidequest where some dumbasses stole the school team's mascot and you had to find them by doing some weird shit with lasers to discover hidden messages from a group who called themselves "Bipoc artists" and was responsible for stealing that mascot. This was a huge wtf moment for me

Damn. I really enjoyed SM1 but I have yet to play SM2. I knew about the "find my gay boyfriend" sidequest and "play as a blind character", but I hadn't heard about this one or the situation Gymwolf described.

WTF happened to Insomniac??? They used to be my favorite developer....

The mastectomy scars are included as a way of promoting and celebrating irreversible surgery performed on healthy girls and women suffering from a mental health condition that requires proper counselling, support and a lack of ideologically driven agenda. They are being let down by a system and a culture that pushed them into scarring themselves both physically and mentally for life.

That sets this specific thing apart from all the other tedious bullshit.
What a consenting adult does to themselves is absolutely none of my concern or my business, no matter my personal thoughts on the subject. And being an option in a character creator that I'll likely ignore…again why would I care? Why is that of any concern to me?

Why not rail against the circumcision option for dicks in BG3 or Cyberpunk? You could claim it's promoting unwitting genital mutilation in children…like dude it's just a fucking a character creator option for fucks sake. Why the whole political spiel every fucking time?

The mental illness honestly seems more on the side of people being completely hung up on it when it doesn't effect them in any way other than they might see it as a tab in a character creator at the beginning of a game.

'Fuck dem chicks'.

surgery-facilitated trans people are not within the fantasy of dragon age... the medical tech is barely beyond the leeches phase.

if you wanted to change your body, you'd go to an alchemist who'd send you in a quest to procure 3 rare ingredients to craft a potion to change your body

Honestly, the deaf girl side quest and gay boyfriend side quest didn't bothered me that much, but yeah, I felt the pandering was way over the board in this game. There were a few more things like that. For example, they changed Black Cat and made her gay (or bi or whatever), there was some preaching about climat change in one of the missions, they limited presence of the police, made Peter whiny, weak and apologetic, MJ's character was also extremely annoying. Not only her missions sucked, but her character was just awful

Guaranteed people at their office were like what the fuck is this??

But! You dare speak up about anything that even remotely skirts near these modern day issues... yeah your ass might be on that upcoming layoff list xD

I wonder if those defending this trash will actually even buy it. Based on sales of Concord, probably not. They/them will not even put their money where their mouth is.

I remember this argument! 2008 era. "Who cares what adults do in the absolute privacy of their own home". Didn't really shake out like that though, did it?

So out of it I assumed that "top surgery scars" ment like the most common one like heart surgery, c section, appendix etc…

I didn't know what "top surgery scar" meant before this thread, so I guess Veilguard's progressive education is working! I won't buy the game though...

In many a character creator you could just add a scar and move it anywhere on the body without explicitly creating a UI toggle for a specific type of scar. So, so stupid and unnecessary design.

This game really is fascinating. The discourse surrounding the game is largely negative, yet every YouTube preview is positive and completely ignores what's being discussed.

Once the 'culture war' era we're in passes, this game will have some truly incredible retrospectives.

Exactly, could've just had a scar placement option. This is a blatant statement and my statement to them is I won't be buying their game.

Because when I play a fantasy game, I want to think about breast removals and Twitter arguments...

Growing up a weeb really paid off in the long run when it comes to games.

Ideally you're supposed to not have those, FtMs. I can tell you as a man that my tits got no scars under them. If you want to imagine yourself as a man in the game you will never need this.

This is a glorification of self-harm. It's frankly disgusting.
