MS Flight Simulator 2024 |OT| The Sky is Calling

Well, I'm past the login screen, too bad that London is not loading for me at all. I'm looking at this screen for 10 minutes now.

UPD:
OK, London is straight-up fire. My god, this launch is a dumpster fire.

Exactly the issue! Even though people saying they are getting in, planes, maps, cities, landscapes are not loading or downloading! So it kinda looks even worse than MFS2020

This dishonest piece of shit game is stating my internet bandwidth is too low and it may hurt my loading times and ugly world loading..

I'm on fibre and just did an internet test.

It's a widespread issue. These idiots are not even store the planes locally, so far I saw zero cockpits because they don't stream. Servers are basically dead in the water.

This is a huge L both for the cloud as the gaming future, and for MS/Asobo in general.

Lets see how it runs when all the streamers and gamepass kiddies are back to Call of Duty....

It's one thing for the game to be absolutely fucked, but to say 'oh have a look at the xbox status page' - and they have deleted the status and it now says everything is working great. Asobo not even bothering to update their twitter support page. Which probably means they are completely fucked.

Downloaded the 11g last night, didn't attempt to start it. Woke up this
morning, started the game to download language shit and packages while I washed up and did a free flight before heading out.

And….. (insert favorite gamer saying)
"It worked like a charm"
"Smooth as silk"
"Runs flawlessly"
.
.
.
But wow what a step up from 2020..

They have changed the architecture so significantly that aircraft, cities, basically all the content is streamed. And they don't have either the servers, or a backend capable of dealing with any of it.

Yep. Great, isn't it.

And people shout for cloud gaming. What a cracking future that'll be :messenger_tears_of_joy:

I am too lazy to re-download the 2020 version... But I am pretty sure it looked way better than this. I just have one last thing to say:

Are we sure the aircraft are streamed? When I launched in to London my plane looked fine even though London was just a bunch of green and brown pyramids.

Im not into these games, but £70 (Steam) to stream a game, if you are able to even get in. At that price its stinks of a typical marketing ploy to force you to get Gamepass.

Make the non Gamepass game priced that high and off putting, so a "low monthly sub" to Gamepass is the only thing that makes sense (except you'd "own" less of it that way, which is saying something with this game)

Yeah you can go into the content manager, everything is set to stream with no options to change anything.

Aircrafts are most likely cached automatically on your PC after first load. I would also think MSFS prioritizes aircraft assets when streaming. Since you can download addons locally, I have a feeling we will eventually get the options to choose cloud/local, especially since the developers said that 2024 will work the same as 2020 when it comes to managing locally stored caches for specific areas/regions.

That's the stupid take of the week!

You do not play flight sims clearly

Hey asshole. I paid for the last one (Ultimate Edition which was $119 US). Even had a thread about it. They put all the sweet planes behind a paywall this time around and if you want everything that's a $200 price I'm not selling a kidney so I can have content that should already be included. I've been playing flight sims since before you were born. I bet you can't even start up the Warthog in Warthog Simulator without a tutorial. I was flying circles around enemy encampments in IL-2 Sturmovik while you were still hoping over Goombas in Super Mario Bros. in your diapers. I was dropping quarters in Lock-On while you were still in your nanny's lap learning to put socks on.

Cute tantrum. I was working summer jobs to build a PC with a voodoo card for the whole Jane's series and finally put to rest my Commodore 64 with Solo flight. IL2 sturmovick? I was a beta tester of that. Lock-On? Come the fuck on, anyone born in the 80's did the same. As if it's any difference for flight sims lol. Look at which date I joined this forum and think that I was here even before « neo ».

So then why would anyone sane in adult life even think he has time to buy a 125 planes package and even go to the bottom of them? There's no chances. Might as well buy the standard edition and pick a couple of interesting planes.

Or you know, if you're that passionate about flight sims, buy aviator package and shut up about it. 2 single planes in DCS will cost that much, so shush. Trying to belittle the value of MSFS24 is a new one even for the whiny Hoggit subreddit.

Why does Microsoft seem to have the worst performance when it comes to the cloud? Isn't that supposed to be their specialty?

World map seems to be downgraded. Lot of buildings in certain cities that were there in 2020 are missing here.

It was like that in the recent beta test they did. Can't have been many people playing, but it was only a 9 GB download and it looked a lot worse than 2020. There were issues with ground textures disappearing, getting replaced by empty fields, and then being redrawn with slightly different lighting every few seconds. Holes in the map, buildings and trees that looked like lumps...

I didn't bother playing much of it then, since the 2020 version is so much better. I'm going to give this one a few weeks, I think, but it's not encouraging that nothing except the server load has changed since the beta.

Does this actually run ok on the series S?

Thinking about getting gamepass for a month to try it but want to see what the performance is like on the series S first

This fucking game man, trying to invert my camera controls and I just messed shit up and there's no "reset to default" that I can find. Why can't they just fucking include an option to invert camera controls? Every game has had it for like 20 years.

I had a quick 15 minute go earlier and could I find the option to invert the camera? Could I bollocks! Any pointers to save me trawling through pages of settings would be greatly appreciated.

Can't check it myself right now, but isn't there the option to search for a control by name? There is on PC anyway. Search camera or camera axis and you'll get loads of matches.

Edit: if it's the actual flight controls you're looking for, search elevator.

Mmmm. It might have a small install size now, but it definitely seems to be to the detriment of the overall experience compared to 2020. Strange multi coloured textures in the cockpit after swapping views, longer times to get started, being told my 1gig connection doesn't have enough bandwidth…

And I cannot find the option to invert the y axis for external camera views. I'm sure it's there somewhere, but it's definitely not front and centre!

Luke warm first impression here.

Hover your cursor to the top of screen, go to the "hat" icon and select Auto-Pilot under AI control? At least, that's how the previous MFS game is.

Seems like they removed the AI Pilot feature completely leaving only the real life aircraft autopilot now. This is super disappointing and makes this a no buy for me. I often liked to set my controller down, smoke a bowl and look at scenery. That was actually my favorite part of MSFS2020.

Yesterday was a disaster, but today it's worked flawlessly for me. I'm loving it so far. The career mode is exactly what I was hoping for. I'm pretty sure it's going to be my GOTY.

What's with this "activating packages" nonsense? Xbox app only downloaded 11 GB, and I've been waiting for hours for this package activation process. They should have just let us download the full game instead of forcing us to wait on some stupid menu with terrible music. Oh Microsoft, why are you like this?

Seems like some peoples are making it work quite well in VR

Seems well optimized considering a 3070 for VR runs like this

Gamepass bad, got it.

Give me a break.

Excited to try this. I was never able to get what I would call acceptable VR performance out of 2020, but this one seems better optimized and there's DLSS to help.
