It's just like how nobody actually cared about the generic brown haired white male protagonists in the past because we all know that everything is universally appealing to everyone. Character design is superfluous to game development in the same way that it's superfluous to design for shit that the human eye can't even perceive, such as framerates over 30fps or the difference between 720p and 1080p on a TV below 50 inches.

They should embrace the love and empathy that they like to talk so much about and try to calm things, give a better picture of the character/game/design. Fighting your audience with sarcasm hasn't worked out for the film industry.

I am all on board if this turns out to be well-written character and there are meaningful explanations on why the character is designed this way.

But based on cases for past a few years, this might just be the industry forcing the "strong, independent woman lead" trend, which so far is proved to have very little meaningful value and generally led to commercial failures.
