Avowed hype check

My current state is:

The lack of a physical edition is turning me off. We'll see what happens but this is the reason I haven't pre-ordered.
 
First person RPGs are my favourite genre, but so far this does not look great and Obsidian has yet to make a game half as good as New Vegas.

Still, it is on gamepass so I will give it a chance.

It's on Gamepass. I'll play it and if I like it enough I'll buy it on Steam when it's cheaper.

Maybe they are trying different characters/builds? I am not sure who this person is, but if they are doing a review and trying different builds, time could add up.

That'll still be a list of 613 gaming industry companies to avoid. And avoiding giants like Nvidia and Sony with their headquarters located there. Most impressive!
 
No hype. I had it on my wishlist from when it was announced a few years back but lost interest over time. Even if I was still interested the release timing would stop me from buying it at launch anyway.

Yep that teaser was absolutely fantastic. It was a real 'oh shit Obsidian are coming for Elder Scrolls' moment.

Since then it's got steadily more disappointing. The art style change really killed my interest, but I'll watch the reviews.

Gamepass day one. I was a little wary of the combat but I trust Obsidian. I liked The Outer Worlds and of course New Vegas. So I'm looking forward to it.

The dukes did an interview with the game director this past week which kinda gave me some hope that it wouldn't be Dragon Age level woke. If it's somewhere around Baldur's Gate 3 level of woke I can tolerate it.

Interestingly though
There is no romancing in the game according to the director. Given the suspicion that the game is woke...you would think there would be, otherwise what's the point?

Honestly, can't wait to go full BRO with Kai (voiced by same VA as Garrus in Mass Effect) without fear that he wants to fuck me and frowns if I refuse, like every goddamn Baldur's Gate 3 male companions. The idea that just being nice to a companion leads to bed is such a stupid mechanic.

I can relate to that, i remember in BG3 (some time ago though) i was a little bit too nice to a character and it almost resulted in a romance before i could stop it, lol.

I was pretty excited at first, but then I read the art directors comments and I just don't get how anyone can support that shit.. he is basically saying "this game isn't for you"

Couple that with them coming out and basically saying, "expect jank"… suggest I should wait it out and see
 
I'll probably pick it up on deep sale. There are too many high quality jrpgs around right now to get avowed day one. By time I've cleared out some of my backlog Atelier Yumia will be out, Yakuza Pirates and probably some more games. Avowed should have been Pillars 3.

I am extremely OK with Avowed not having any. I think they've intentionally dodged a bullet there, which is a wise decision.
 
From the announcement trailer to game reveal, the tonal shift gave me so much whiplash that I have zero hype. Will wait for reviews.

They probably know it will underperform to some degree. The game got delayed from November to February to avoid the busy holiday season but we all know it was done for additional polish.

A few days ago the game director was asked about jank and she said you have to accept some jank to do something fun and creative lol

Bethesda RPGs are much larger in scope and they use the creation engine so jank is expected there. Obsidian won't get the same pass with Avowed. But the level of jank they were talking about will be determined when the game launches.
