the man has been cooking.

i’m all in on smash ultimate 2, kid icarus or a new ip.

Really don't get why Sakurai is doing more Smash. Isn't he tired of it? Isn't Ultimate anything and everything Smash fans could ever want?

I don't know how much further you can take that franchise. Ultimate seems like the limit. What else can be done besides add more fighters, stages, power ups etc?

Maybe take into 3D like Power Stone? That might work and would be a massive change for the series.

we are still getting a feb nd right ??

If we get a Direct this month it'll have to be on the 12th or 19th (13th/20th in Japan) so it wouldn't interfere with Pokemon Day on Feb. 27th. The past several February Directs (maybe Directs in general?) have been on Wednesday in the US/Thursday in Japan.

We're now ten days away from this direct. Time really does speed up with age.

Final predictions.

Full reveal of the console. Features, specs and launch day complete with price.

Launch day will be 20 June. Price will be £389.99 in the UK.

Launch games day one.

From Nintendo:

Mario Kart 9
Metroid Prime 4
Non-franchise game (like 1-2 Switch etc)

Third party:
Elden Ring
Halo MCC
Dragon Ball Sparkling Zero
Street Fighter 6
Just Dance
Age of Empires 2/Age of Mythology

They'll probably be more, but I think the above are locked in.

Future titles shown.

We'll probably get a peak at titles further down the road, such as the new 3D Mario title, possibly a 2D Mario collection to mark the 40th anniversary and third party titles like Red Dead 2

It will be at 2pm here... I'm half tempted to take the day off lol (or switch it with the 3rd, since Thursday is my usual day off).

Now that I think about it, I have some vacations I need to take before May... hmm...

Currently in a "meh, just happen" stage. Got a horrible feeling that any new 3D Mario or Zelda will be kept for the September direct. It'll be MK and Metroid with some lesser first party stuff and some 3rd party games.

I have to say, if their April 2 presentation won't have the full (first-party) launch line-up and what not, then what the hell have Nintendo been doing all these years? If they can't even show the new 3D Mario, they deserve all the shit they gonna get.

Have you looked at the sale numbers of an 8 year old hardware recently?

No, but they're introducing/launching a new product. They've made a fucking announcement for an announcement (the April 2. thing). So if this turns out to be "Hey. Furukawa here. I dunno, man. Here's AC Shadows running on it. And we also have RDR2 running on it. Peace out". Then they deserve to get shit on.

I don't know about everyone else, but I'd be really happy with that, especially if the games shown on April 2nd show off all the graphical upgrades over the original switch.

It’s going to be this + New Mario Kart. It will sell millions.

they will show Mario Kart, announce it as a launch title,
show Metroid Prime 4, probably either as a launch title or launch window title (1 months after launch),
they will probably have some game to use the new mouse sensor gimmick, similar in scope to 1 2 Switch,

and they will absolutely announce the next 3D Mario game, which will probably release within the first year like Odyssey did.
the third party stuff will fill out the lineup on top of these.

games they could announce in addition is maybe Splatoon 4, maybe a new IP... hell, maybe ARMS 2, but this time more fully fleshed out than the barebones first one. lots of untapped potential IMO

It's the Switch 2. it doesn't need a Smash bros tease or F zero coming back to sell or generate hype. It will be sold out to Christmas and beyond.

My fear, and obviously I could be wrong, is that Nintendo will sit on big games the whole generation. With no real urgency to get them out. they won't be releasing an animal crossing while the Switch 2 has an install base of less than 20 million because it's just lost sales if they do.

Nintendo is the last big publisher that understands its games are system sellers. Animal Crossing and Zelda will get people to buy a Switch 2. I don’t see as many people desperately upgrading for Mario Kart if they already own a Switch with MK8, but people who buy a Switch 2 will buy MK9.

or they release it soon and it sells for 10 more years steady away. evergreen style

I don't think you need to worry about this.

Nintendo have never done that before and unlikely won't start now. If they want people to upgrade then they need to swamp the Switch 2 with quality software.

I think we’ll see 3D Mario at the event

Mario Kart 9 is the equivalent of Mario Kart 8

Metroid 4 is the equivalent of BotW

There’s room for another big title towards the end of the year.

I really hope its not just a bunch of re releases and update patches, that a not going to excite a lot of people.

Show us what the new hardware will go for classic Nintendo franchises, what will a new 3D Mario look like, a new 2D Zelda, show off a dormant franchise given new life with the switch 2, ect.

Could be a remake of Kid Icarus Uprising to help his developers get used to such a huge hardware leap before the next Smash. Teams often do this early on in the gen see Wind Waker HD or TLOU Part 1 Remake.

I know it’s Nintendos MO to sell the same games to its customers 45 times over, but I think they have an incentive to take a more tactful approach here considering they have a massive amount of Switch owners they want to push to the new platform. Something like offering free graphical upgrade patches for its big first party games (Mario, Zelda, etc.) during the first year of the Switch 2. Little cost to Nintendo, accelerates the Switch 2 adoption rate and buys good will from players.

God damn that’s actually such a good idea they should be paying me for it.

I imagine almost all of their 2025 lineup will be at this show (if its launching in June). The September Direct can be used for 2026 games.

Agreed. They'll have something else for the end of the year. I probably something Mario related for the 40th anniversary.

A return of Mario Paint is a good bet considering the mouse function on the new console.

What's more likely, a BoTW remaster or BoTW/ToTK bundle remaster?

Probably the bundle, but next year. 2026 is the 40th anniversary of Zelda, so I'd expect a lot of Zelda goodness then. Maybe not a brand new title, but at least a modern remake of OOT.

Speaking of an anniversary, 2026 is also the 30th anniversary of Pokemon. Gen 10 will most likely be the big hitter for the Switch 2 late next year.

I think we're getting a Donkey Kong + Mario game. Nintendo redesigned DK, gave him a big role in the Mario movie, opened a DK theme park at Universal, remade DK v Mario on Switch last year, saved DK94 on NSO for one month before Switch 2 direct, and there have been rumors of an EAD-developed DK game for years.

Can’t have a Nintendo launch without a mainline title man (Metroid is a niche for most people) Maybe they will announce some kind of patch or upgrade for Zelda’s that will make them like remasters upgraded textures @ / 60fps.

That or we need a new Mario game announced and basically at or near launch window

Also they will have some first party mouse kinda game to showcase the new joy cons 100% first party

Agreed. I did say that they'll show off a Mario title, but I don't think it'll be a day one launch title and will come later in the year.

Mario Paint is screaming for a come back.

Also, show off some 3rd party games that can make use of the mouse function. Age of Empire's maybe? Civ VII?
